Honestly, making this Alabama white sauce is so simple you might just want to whip it up every week! I mean, just 2 steps are all you need to follow to make it and the whole process will take you under 5 minutes.

Anyway, here’s how to make homemade white BBQ sauce.

Step 1: Mixing The Ingredients

First, you’re going to measure out the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, and salt and pepper.

Then, add all of those ingredients to a medium-sized bowl and whisk them together until well combined and smooth.

Step 2: Taste and Adjust as needed

Now, once the sauce is mixed, give it a little taste test and adjust however you see fit. I think this Alabama white sauce taste is on point, but you can tailor it to your tastebuds.

Then, when it’s good to go, serve it with anything you want, and enjoy!

Smoked Chicken With Alabama White Sauce

Set sous vide machine to 74C/165F. Place chicken in freezer bag and remove the air through a vacuum sealer or the displacement method. Drop the bag in the bath for three hours. Remove bag from bath. Take chicken quarters out of the bag, pat dry and season with blend of salt, pepper, cumin, paprika and garlic powder.

Let the chicken cook with smoke for about 30 minutes at 225-240°F. After 30 minutes, brush the chicken generously with the Alabama white sauce and continue to cook. You can crank up the heat to 275-300 at this time if you have the capability. Brush the chicken with the Alabama white sauce every 15 minutes until the chicken is finished cooking.

Alabama white sauce is a mayonnaise-based sauce that rivals the classic barbecue sauce we all know and love. It is slightly sweet, spicy and tangy all at once and is absolutely delicious with grilled chicken. The sauce can be made up to 24 hrs in advance.

While the chicken is cooking make the Alabama white BBQ sauce by coming all the ingredients in a medium size bowl and whisking well. If the consistency is loose, add more mayo. Check for seasoning, the flavor should be tangy, adjust accordingly. Brush or spoon the white BBQ sauce all over the chicken and serve with the beans, enjoy!

Prep And Measure Ingredients

If you havent already, make your barbecue sauce.

Cut both rolls in half. You can also choose to use other styles of bread, like crusty sourdough or old-fashioned soft and fluffy white bread.

Trim the chicken if desired.

Measure out all remaining ingredients as listed. Its easiest to set out the ingredients in the order in which you will need them.

Feel free to choose your favorite style of pickles and coleslaw. I usually make my slaw in advance at home, but a premade version from the deli will also work.

If you like, you can also make a quick homemade slaw that doesnt require any extra time in the refrigerator with fresh coleslaw mix, mayonnaise , 1/4 teaspoon of salt, salt, black pepper, lemon juice, and a pinch of cayenne.

Mix everything together, stick it in the fridge, and it will be ready to go when youre ready to serve.

Grilled Chicken With Alabama White Bbq Sauce Recipe

Ingredients Chicken Wings 6 ½ lb Chicken wings ¼ cup Olive oil Wood chunks for smoking, preferably oak or pecan Dry Rub 3 tbsp Paprika 2 tbsp Brown sugar 2 tbsp Salt 1 tbsp Garlic powder 2 tsp Onion powder 1 tsp Guajillo powder 1 tsp Black pepper Alabama White Sauce 2 cup Mayonnaise cup Apple cider vinegar

For the Alabama White Sauce, stir together mayonnaise, vinegar, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and hot sauce in a small bowl. Set aside. Grill chicken, covered with grill lid, 8 to 10 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer inserted into thickest portion registers 180°.

The white sauce consists of just a few simple ingredients, most of which you probably have in your pantry.

The only ingredient you may need to purchase is prepared horseradish. Look for Prepared Horseradish on the label, which consists of grated horseradish root, vinegar, water, salt, a little oil, and a few other ingredients to preserve product freshness. Do not buy a Creamy Horseradish Sauce which is milder and contains more oil, eggs, sugar, corn syrup, etc. The white sauce itself is basically a variation on a creamy horseradish sauce, in that it includes oil and eggs , vinegar, sugar, and seasonings.

After many trips to Alabama for football games I was first intrigued with the sauce because its so different from many others associated with barbecue. The zesty sauce was popularized in Decatur, Alabama and is commonly served on smoked chicken. I enjoy it slathered over crispy, fried chicken as in this recipe.

Alabama White Bbq Sauce

To prepare Alabama White Sauce, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 2 cups mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Kosher salt

Thinly slice the onions using a mandoline or sharp knife. Place sliced onions in a mason jar. Next, add the white vinegar, water, brown sugar, and salt to a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk mixture until the sugar and salt dissolve. Allow the pickling liquid to cool, then pour over jarred onions. Set aside to cool to room temperature, then place in refrigerator. They’ll be ready to eat when they’re bright pink and soft, about one hour for thin sliced onions. If you’re slices are thicker, it could take up to 8 hours.

All that’s left to do once the chicken is finished cooking on the grill is to arrange the sandwich. We used Texas toast that’s been toasted and buttered. You can also use brioche Texas toast or another type of sandwich bread. We like to toss the pulled chicken in the sauce to get it nice and slathered up, but you can also top the chicken on the toast and then drizzle the sauce on top. Don’t forget your onions and a pickle for serving!

About a week ago my husband, Nate, found a post on Reddit that listed a sandwich for every state in the U.S. For absolutely no reason whatsoever, we decided that it was our duty as humans to make and try each and every one of those sandwiches.

I should mention, this is not an official or definitive list. In fact, at a glance, I think North Carolinians are going to be pretty pissed off that their sandwich is listed as having a sweet BBQ sauce when they are well known to be a vinegar-based BBQ sauce state. But regardless of how appropriate the sandwich is for the state in question , we decided it would be at the very least a delicious endeavor. Thus, Sandwich Sundays were instated.

We dont have any hard or official rules, just that we go through the list alphabetically, follow the general spirit of the sandwich, and eat it. And if things change, whatever. Its a sandwich, not a guide to making a nuclear weapon.

Last night we started our 50-week endeavor with Alabama. Their sandwich is listed as Pulled Chicken with White Sauce and described as a combination of mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, and a dash of horseradish smothers dry-rubbed chicken.

OK. Sure. To me, white sauce sounds a little alfredo sauce-y to me, which unfortunately I dont love. But Im also not one to shy away from a food challenge we just invented on the very first week. So, here goes nothing

I know. Were fancy.

To complete the meal, I made refrigerator pickled vegetables and baked beans.

Im sitting here, writing about this tasty sub sandwich and stress eating popcorn. Why am I stress eating? Well, today was the first day of back to school for my little guy and it felt like the first day of school ever. You know how hard it is to send your babies to school for the first time and today, I feel like I was reliving it again.

This is a whole new school for us and a whole new process. Today, I was introduced to the car drop-off process and after being able to walk him to class for the last 3 years, it was a little tough on both of us.

I had tears in my eyes as I was driving away after he was asking me to walk with him and I couldnt, and there are other cars around so its not like I can linger and see if he will go in with the teacher. It was just heartbreaking!

Now, Im anxiously waiting for the pick up time and keeping myself busy. May be Ill go and bake a few cakes while Im at it. It will be a first day of school stress bake off! Lots of cakes and everything must go. Or, may be I will just keeping sitting in one spot, stress eating my popcorn

Whether I keep munching on popcorn or not, I know I will be needing my White BBQ Sub sandwich today. It truly is my favorite sandwich. I have two favorites when it comes to subs and its Hot Italian Sub and and White BBQ Chicken Sub.

The Origins Of White Sauce

White sauce is a tradition of Northern Alabama barbecue thats attributed to Bob Gibson of Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q in Decatur, AL. Gibson started selling barbecue out of his backyard in 1925 and over the years developed a reputation for his pork and chicken and especially his tangy, mayonnaise-based Bar-B-Q White Sauce.

Today at Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q, they serve all the usual suspectsbrisket, pork, ribs, turkeybut their claim to fame is the quarter, half, or whole barbecued chicken dipped in the famous white sauce, as well as pulled chicken sandwiches drizzled with the stuff.

If youve never tasted white sauce, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. I think youll be surprised how good it is.

This recipe appeared in the June/July 2011 special barbecue edition of Saveur magazine and is attributed to Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q. It includes a recipe for both the white sauce and the rub for the pulled chicken. Ive included both here, but you can prepare barbecued chicken for these sandwiches any way you like, including the ever-popular Hot & Fast Chicken on the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker, which is what I did for my sandwiches.

I just drizzled the white sauce on the pulled chicken when I made my sandwiches, but youll notice that the original recipe suggests basting the chicken with sauce during cooking.
