This whole adventure began when I lost my job with an established marine company during the recession of 2008 and this dream of creating a product that could please so many people was finally becoming a reality. I played around with various ingredients and spices with hopes to make a barbecue sauce that could please everyone. After many failed attempts, I finally found the perfect blend of sweet, tangy, and smoky flavors. I made a barbecue sauce that both my wife and daughter could enjoy not so much heat, but a little more sweet. I bottled the sauce for friends and family and thats when our product became a favorite around town. Before long, people were calling, asking for this Big Ricks BBQ Sauce they had heard amazing things about.

I shared the product with a long-time friend, George, from Omaha, Nebraska and what happened next is what completely changed the game for our family.

George had produced a seasoning mix that I used in my barbecue sauce, and when he tasted the sauce for the first time, he knew it was something worth sharing.

Even from the very beginning, its always been about family for us. Family is what has made this product work, and what continues to drive my passion. It took a little help from a few different people, but this business, this product, has given our family the ability to succeed in so many ways.

    Rick Doty, known to many as Big Rick, started making his barbecue sauce more than 20 years ago, when he couldnt find a barbecue sauce with a taste he could crave. Turns out, Rick wasnt alone. His big tasting sauces caught on and soon customers were lining up at food fairs and cooking events to get a jar of Big Ricks. Soon after, Rick quit his job as a house painter and along with close friends and family started cooking full-time.

    Rick Doty, known to many as Big Rick, started making his barbecue sauce more than 20 years ago, when he couldnt find a barbecue sauce with a taste he could crave. Turns out, Rick wasnt alone.     Rick and his crew developed sauce recipes in long and raucous tasting sessions, that sometimes lasted late into the night. Once they found combinations that met the mens taste buds, they cooked up the winning sauces in large pots and poured them into jars. The last step was attaching plastic tamper-proof sleeves on the lids and shrinking them into place with a hair dryer. Labels were drawn up and the much-loved sauces were named after Ricks closest loved ones.

    No question about it this is absolutely a perfect dish. Im surprised more people havent discovered it! I added some garlic and doubled up on the sauce for an extra big taste, but you really dont need to alter anything about this recipe at all. Everything is well-thought out with this recipe. And it is just simply delicious! The chicken is moist and tender and the sauce rich, sweet and smooth with just the right kick of heat. The chosen ingredients all combine into something special how can you go wrong with a sauce made of chicken broth, wine, Big Ricks Jalepeno Honey Mustard, sour cream and tarragon? Pair it up with a cold beer or white wine and youve got a seriously memorable meal.
