Type Of Alfredo Sauce

If you will notice from the list of products we have, there are two major types of store-bought sauces: One is jarred and the other one is powder sauce mix.

Jarred Alfredo pasta sauces are generally ready to use. This means that there are no extra preparations needed to add the sauce to your dish. So if you have cooked pasta, you can simply add your favorite Alfredo sauce, mix well to distribute the sauce evenly and thats it. So if you are always on the go or dont have time for long food preparations, jarred sauces are a good choice for you.

The origin of Alfredo sauce goes back to 1914 when Alfredo Di Lelio first created his Fettuccine Alfredo. Four years earlier, Alfredo had opened a restaurant in Rome, called Alfredos, on the Via Della Scrofa.

Alfredos son, Armando, had just been born, and the tired mother was left with no appetite. He tried several things, but the one thing that worked was when he created some fresh fettuccine swirled with Parmigiano and butter. She loved it and polished off the plate in quick double time.

The story goes that in 1920 Douglas Fairbanks Jr and Mary Pickford, who was honeymooning in Rome, dined at Alfredos restaurant and fell in love with this fettuccine dish.

So much that they dined there every day and later returned to the restaurant to present Alfredo with a gold-plated spoon on which was inscribed, to Alfredo the Noodle King, July 1927.

If you happen to have some leftovers, I recommend storing the sauce in its own airtight container. Do not combine the pasta and the sauce in the same container. I recommend reheating the sauce in a small saucepan over low temperature, when the sauce melts due to the heat, you may need to add a tablespoon or two of heavy cream to thin out the sauce. I typically make fresh pasta the second time I serve the sauce.

Add Something Other Than Pasta

You dont have to rely on your jarred Alfredo sauce alone to give your dish some flavor. Add some extra ingredients to your pasta to pump up the dish and mask the artificial taste of jarred sauce.

Try adding some protein to your Alfredo pasta dishes, such as shrimp or chicken. Not only will this make the meal healthier and more filling, but it will also thicken out the sauce and add robust flavors.

If you want to make the dish healthy, add some vegetables, such as steamed broccoli. Jarred Alfredo sauce is delicious but it is often very heavy and fatty, so vegetables can cut through that thick feeling.

Mixing The Pasta And Sauce

  • 1Figure out how much Alfredo sauce to use. You’ll need the same number of sauce servings as pasta servings. For example, if you made enough pasta for two people, heat enough sauce for two people. Check the nutrition label on the sauce jar to find out how much sauce is in one serving it should be about 1/4 to 1/2 cup per person.
  • 2Pour the sauce into a medium pan or pot. The pot you use needs to be large enough to fit both the Alfredo sauce and the pasta, so choose accordingly.
  • 3Heat the sauce over medium heat. Place the pan on a burner, turn the burner to medium, and let the sauce begin to heat. Stir it occasionally using a spatula or spoon to keep it from scorching on the bottom. It should take about five minutes to heat. Taste the sauce to see if it’s hot before going to the next step.

    If I have any of this creamy Alfredo sauce left over, I pour it into a medium or large mason jar, depending on how much I have.

    Then I put it in the refrigerator. Its good for at least 4 or 5 days. However, it rarely lasts that long at our house because I love leftovers for lunch.

    Can you freeze Alfredo sauce? Yes, absolutely! Put the Alfredo sauce in an airtight container and store it in the freezer. When youre ready to eat it, let it thaw for several hours. Then put it in a covered saucepan over medium heat.

    Ive noticed that when I freeze Alfredo sauce, the sauce sometimes separates. But all I have to do is stir it as it heats, and that usually solves the problem.

    You can also thicken it by adding a little bit of cornstarch. The best way to do this is to make a slurry of 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1/2 cup of your favorite cold broth .

    Whisk it and then slowly add it to the Alfredo sauce. It thickens as it gets hot.

    How Can I Make Store Bought Alfredo Sauce Taste Better
