How To Make Honey Garlic Sauce For Wings

Honey Garlic Sauce Recipe – How to Make Honey Garlic Sauce Easy

I used this sauce on wings and they were super good. Combine chicken broth, brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger in a saucepan over medium heat bring to a gentle boil. Reduce heat and simmer sauce, stirring often, until flavors combine, about 5 minutes. Whisk water and cornstarch together in a small bowl.

Figure Out The Base Of The Recipe Volumetricly

Canadian food labeling law requires that all ingredients be listed in “descending order of proportion by weight”.

Knowing that, I can look at the list and figure out where the cutoff would be for ingredients contributing significantly to the volume of the sauce.

Knowing from experience that there is a fair amount of garlic in the sauce, I would normally consider that the “final” ingredient in our initial problem-solving.

However, since it contributes only to flavor, I’m going to ignore it for now. That means that for the volumetric base of our recipe, we are focusing on sugar, water, honey, and molasses.

As Im about to tell you about the value of making your own sauces from scratch, I feel its only fair to also tell you I bought a not-insignificant-sized jar of Cheez Whiz last week. So please, dont take me too seriously. I mostly make my own sauces because I dont remember to buy them, not because Im opposed to jars.

You know I believe strongly in healthy, balanced eating, and I believe just as strongly that dessert should be full of all the calories. Those desserty calories, though, should be things like real-deal butter, cream, and chocolate, and I generally draw the line at processed food

All of which to say, I basically make food choices to suit my convenience at least 50% of the time. SO. Make it homemade if you can, and dont stress if you cant, just buy the thing with the least unpronounceable ingredients and call it a day. Were all human here, and we all have busy lives that involve more than worrying about dying from overconsumption of Cheez Whiz.

That stuff wont kill you, its magic.

But seriously, honey garlic sauce? Super easy. Takes about as long as opening a jar, if opening the jar involves going downstairs to disturb your working husband so he can twist off the cap for you and make you feel safe with his muscular display.

What, just me?

So instead of making all my mistakes, this sauce is best used fresh. Then it is perfect for stirfry and for tossing chicken pieces after pre-baking

    Can You Use Frozen Chicken

You can use frozen chicken if thats what you have on hand, but it will likely take roughly double the amount of time to cook all the way through and you may end up with touch, rubbery chicken.

The better option is to follow these steps to quickly thaw frozen chicken:

    • Place the frozen chicken into a large ziplock bag, then set the bag into a bowl of room temperature water.
    • Let it sit until the chicken is thawed fully, changing the water out every 20 minutes so it doesnt get too warm.

    Figure Out Weights And Measures

A quick search online reveals that 1 cup of sugar is generally understood to weigh 7 oz, or 200g.

One cup of water weighs about 8.3 oz, or 237 grams. One cup of honey weighs about 12 oz, or 340 g.

Tips And Tricks For Honey Garlic Chicken

    • If your sauce is too thin, make a cornstarch slurry by whisking together equal parts cornstarch and water. Whisk that into the sauce, very little bits at a time, until it has reached your desired texture. Keep in mind that the sauce will also thicken as it sits.
    • If your sauce is too thick, add a splash of water or chicken broth to thin it out.
    • Play with spice. If you love heat, add more red pepper flakes or even a drizzle of sriracha. If youre not a fan of spice, simply omit the red pepper flakes.
    • Coat the chicken. Coating the chicken in the cornstarch mixture is optional, but it really does result in a crispier chicken since the cornstarch can help absorb moisture as the chicken cooks.
    • Drain the oil. After you brown the chicken, drain any excess oil from the pan so that your sauce doesnt end up greasy.

    Honey Garlic Cooking Sauce

Honey Garlic Cooking Sauce – This sauce is super popular in Canada, and very versatile: It’s great for wings, stir fry, meatballs, & more!

While I can usually reproduce a dish off taste alone – intuitively – sometimes it’s fun to have to reverse engineer something.

A good example of this was my homemade wine slush mix.

For that, I took clues from the ingredient list and nutritional information on the existing package, and used it as the base for my formulation.

For instance, vitamin C amount per serving helped me ballpark the proper amount of citric acid to use, after figuring out a few conversions.

This sort of problem-solving comes in handy for today’s blog.

Yes, you can certainly air fry frozen wings. As recommended in the recipe below, you’ll want to pat them dry and remove any noticeable ice crystals. If they’re wet, they won’t turn out as crispy. However, tossing them in the baking powder will help to soak up that moisture. You may need to add a few more minutes to the air frying time, but chicken wings defrost quickly because they’re small and have a small amount of meat on them.

How To Make This Honey Garlic Chicken Recipe

This baked honey garlic chicken is SO EASY to make.

  • Start by roasting the chicken until it is almost cooked through about 30 -35 mins.
  • Then make the sauce. Pop the 5 honey garlic sauce ingredients into a small frying pan and bring it to a boil for a couple of minutes. This thickens the sauce so it sticks to the chicken. Trust me that this little extra step is 100% worth it.
  • Dip the chicken in the sauce and broil the bottom side. Then flip the chicken over and baste the rest of the sauce on top before you broil it for a few more minutes. Broiling the chicken at the end will caramelize the sugars in the honey to make it extra delicious.

    How To Reheat Chicken Wings

Chicken wings can still taste great when reheated. If you’ve frozen the cooked wings, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight, then let them sit at room temperature for 5 minutes. Place them in the air fryer in a single layer so they will reheat evenly. You may have to do this in batches if you have a small air fryer as I do.

Set the temperature to 390°F. or 400°F. and reheat for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from the basket, let cool slightly and enjoy!

    Why This Recipe Works

How to Make Keto Honey Garlic Sauce
    • No added oil. There is no need to add oil to these wings to get them crispy as you would in a deep fryer. An air fryer uses hot air to circulate around the chicken and does all the crisping work for you!
    • The fat renders off. While chicken wings aren’t the healthiest option, we all know that we choose them for their flavour! Air frying chicken wings makes them as healthy as possible because much of the fat is rendered off while they’re cooking.
    • Incredibly crispy. Coating the wings in a light layer of baking powder or potato starch gives them incredible crispiness. You’d swear they had been deep-fried!
    • Easy clean up. Cooking wings in an air fryer is quick and amazingly easy to clean up.
    • Juicy wings. More importantly, the wings turn out incredibly juicy inside with a crispy exterior that’s perfect for soaking up whatever sauce you use.
    • Make ahead! Besides being deliciously tasty, this is a great recipe for busy people. You can make the honey garlic sauce ahead of time, store it in the fridge and be ready to glaze a batch of wings at the last minute.
