How Is This Dill Yogurt Sauce Different From Greek Tzatziki

Tzatziki Sauce – How to Make Tzatziki – Greek Garlic Yogurt Sauce

One ingredient separates the two cucumber. So, if you have one handy and want to add it by all means, do it! Youve just made Greek Tzatziki, which is delicious with Mediterranean-inspired dishes like Greek Stifado, Falfalel, Souvlaki, all kinds of seafood, lamb, and more.

Otherwise, its a simple dip that keeps several days in the refrigerator if it lasts that long. Its so versatile, mine rarely does.

Delicious Ways To Use Cilantro Yogurt Sauce

Not only is this sauce easy to make but its also absolutely delicious as a dip, drizzle, and even marinade! Here are some amazing ways to use it:

  • Drizzle it on your favorite quesadilla, tacos, enchiladas, nachos, or grilled veggies
  • Use it as a dip for fresh veggies, tortilla chips, and your fav proteins like steak, chicken, shrimp, and salmon
  • Marinate your chicken or salmon in the sauce directly before grilling or baking it!
  • Spoon it onto sandwiches or burgers for the perfect boost of flavor

Can I Make Tzatziki Using Sour Cream

Yes, you can substitute sour cream for the Greek yogurt 1:1.

Tzatziki is traditionally made with strained sheep or goats yogurt, but that can be very hard to find in the U.S. Thats why I opt to use Greek yogurt, which is a strained yogurt thats both thicker and higher in protein than regular yogurt.

While I most prefer using full-fat Greek yogurt, Ive also made this recipe with non-fat Greek yogurt and it turned out very well.

What Do You Use Garlic Yogurt Sauce With

What I like about this recipe is you can use this garlic sauce in most salad dressings, sandwiches, grilled meat and some spiced rice dishes. In my experience, these are the list of food dishes I ate with garlic yogurt sauce:

Meat: Roasted & Grilled Chicken / Steak, Kebab, Shish Tawook and most Middle Eastern meat dishes

Sandwiches:Shawarma Tacos, Falafel, and most Middle Eastern Pita Sandwiches

Salad: Vegetable Green Salad , and most Arabic Salads.

Dipping: French fries, potato chips, chicken wings and crispy pita bread.

Rice:Shawarma rice, Biryani rice, Maqluba, Chicken Majboos and other spiced rice dish

How Long Does It Stay Good

5

The sauce should stay good in your refrigerator for 5-7 days and the flavor will intensify as it refrigerates. For that reason, I used minced garlic from a jar rather than fresh. I find that fresh garlic leaves me with the most unbearable breath for a good 24 hrs no matter how many times I brush and gargle with mouthwash. Garlic from a jar is a little more subtle.

I was pleasantly surprised to find cucumbers on sale 7 for $1 at our produce market today so that really brought the price of this sauce down. Unfortunately, they are only this cheap for a short time during the summer.

Dont let the rest of the cucumber go to waste. Slice it up for dipping into the Tzatziki, layering on sandwiches and salads or as a garnish!

How To Make Dill Yogurt Sauce

Making this sauce is super simple!

Add all the ingredients to a bowl and stir until its combined. Honestly, thats it.

If you want to embellish the dip, here are a couple of ideas and tips.

  • Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and freshly ground black pepper. I prefer sea salt.
  • Add a pinch of ground cayenne for pleasant heat. You can also add red pepper flakes for the same effect.
  • Drizzle olive oil over the top before serving to add additional richness.

And that, my friends, is how you make a 2 Minute Greek Dill Yogurt Sauce!

How Long Does This Garlic Yogurt Sauce Keep

This yogurt sauce will last covered in the refrigerator for 1 week.

When fresh aromatics such as garlic, onion, or shallots are added to a sauce, the shelf life reduces.

As a rule of thumb, if a dressing doesnt use any fresh ingredients then it should last close to a month. If it does, it will last closer to a week.

For example, this balsamic vinaigrette uses just oil and vinegar. I dont use it quite as much, so I want it to last longer. It will last about a month.

Pro Tips For The Greek Yogurt Dressing Recipe With Honey & Mustard

    Homemade Garlic Yogurt Sauce
    • use ONLY Greek yogurt for this dressing recipe, yogurts with less fat in the composition tend to become watery in combination with other ingredients and especially vegetables
    • prepare the Greek yogurt dressing immediately before use or store it in the refrigerator for a short time
    • if you like the hot taste, use a spicy mustard type
    • this Greek yogurt dressing sauce has a balanced sweet-sour taste given that the proportion of honey and mustard is equal this can be modified by changing the proportions, respectively adding extra honey for a sweeter taste and extra mustard for a more sour taste

This Yogurt Sauce Makes Everything Better

I can’t think of a single dish that wouldn’t be improved by yogurt sauce. You know that now eye roll-inducing gag from My Big Fat Greek Wedding in which the father thinks that Windex is the cure for pretty much everything? That’s how I feel about yogurt sauce, aka anything in which salt and other ingredients are mixed with plain Greek yogurt.

Yogurt sauce is great cheap trick for livening up a bunch of leftoversfrom yesterday’s grain salad to the weekend’s fritattaor even whatever wilty, seen-better-days veggies that happen to be hanging around in your fridge waiting to be roasted or stir-fried. Or, yes, you can get fancier and use yogurt sauce on grilled lamb chops, crispy-skinned salmon fillets, and basically anything involving pita. And, because I have such deep affinity for the stuff, I have a tendency to spoon it over dishes that other people might claim are a bridge too far. Pasta? I’ve yogurt-sauced it. A dollop on some chicken tacos? Not mad about it. A drizzle over some avocado toast? Yes, please

This falafel fritter recipe uses yogurt sauce in its simplest form: lemon juice, salt, pepper. There’s literally nothing to master. You just stir and eat.

If the sauce feels to thick, thin it with a little water. And if you want to just eat it straight from the bowl and call that dinner, we support you.

Best Tips For Making Tzatziki Sauce

Make sure your grated cucumber is well-drained. If you have time, you can drain it in cheesecloth or a fine mesh sieve overnight. I prefer the sieve as you can use it over and over. If you need one of these, snag it on Amazon from one of the two links below:

If youre in a rush, you can use your hands to squeeze the liquid out of the cucumber.

The longer the garlic rests in the yogurt, the less sharp bite it will have and the better it will taste.

For best results, combine all of the ingredients except for the cucumber and dill, then let it rest overnight in the fridge while your cucumber is draining.

Add the dill at the last minute so it doesnt overwhelm the rest of the flavors.

Also, if you are looking for a vegan tzatziki sauce or a dairy free tzatziki sauce, then just use coconut milk yogurt instead of Greek yogurt.

This is so tangy and delicious perfect spread over some warm bread!

I also love to eat this sauce with raw veggies as a healthy snack option. Theres lots of protein in the yogurt, so it keeps me full for ages.

Why Do You Need To Strain The Cucumber

Great question! As much as I wish you could skip this step, straining the cucumber makes all the difference when it comes to this easy tzatziki recipe. Cucumbers are mainly made up of water and if you dont strain the water out, all of this water will leave you with a watery dip recipe. Thats also why we use greek yogurt in this easy tzaztiki recipe! Greek yogurt has more straining than regular yogurt to remove the water content so it leaves you with a thick greek yogurt dip which is better for dipping veggies.

What Can I Use Instead Of Mayo In Aioli

While many in the US consider mayo to be the official base of aioli, you have other options!

I prefer using Greek yogurt as my base, but you could also try ranch dressing, vegan mayonnaise or avocado mayo.

Or take it all the way back to the original with a garlic paste and olive oil combo. It all sounds yummy to me!

Enjoyhow To Make Vodka Sauce With Greek Yogurt

Making vodka sauce with greek yogurt is a simple process that only requires a few ingredients. The most important ingredient in this dish is the vodka, which gives the sauce its distinctive flavor. Other key ingredients include tomato sauce, greek yogurt, and parmesan cheese. This dish can be served with any type of pasta, but it pairs especially well with penne or rigatoni. To make the sauce, simply combine the tomato sauce, greek yogurt, and parmesan cheese in a pot over low heat. Once the ingredients are combined, slowly add the vodka and continue to cook over low heat until the sauce has thickened. Once the sauce is thickened, it is ready to be served.

Yogurt can be used to thicken sauces as well as heavy cream. To prevent it from curdling, add starch to keep it from curdling because yogurt lacks fat. When yogurt is ready, whisk in two teaspoons cornstarch or one tablespoon of flour for one cup.

How can you make vodka sauce taste better? After the sauce has warmed slightly, taste it for any seasoning you want. To give it a more lively appearance, sprinkle it with salt, red pepper flakes, or fresh garlic. Fresh and dried herbs, such as oregano, basil, thyme, tarragon, and parsley, would also be ideal.

If you want to make Greek yogurt taste like sour cream, use heavy cream to balance the creamy texture and/or lemon juice or lime juice for the sour flavor. Pour one cup of Greek yogurt into a mixing bowl, and then add 1 cup of heavy cream and mix well.
