Is There Alcohol In Bourbon Bbq Sauce
While there obviously is alcohol in the bourbon added to the recipe, because it is brought to a boil and simmered for at least 10 minutes, a majority of the alcohol evaporates. So you will cook off most of it.
Given the amount of bourbon relative to the entire batch of sauce and that it is boiled to remove much of it, I feel comfortable letting my kids drizzle a couple of tablespoons of sauce on their meal. However, if you are highly sensitive to even residual alcohol, Id recommend discussing this with a medical professional.

Bbq Sauce Maker Secures Gnbs Standards Mark
The Guyana National Bureau of Standards yesterday presented a certificate to SS Natural Fruit Flavoured Inc that permits the company to use the Made in Guyana Standards Mark for its fruit flavoured BBQ sauces.
CEO of SS Natural Fruit Flavoured Inc Sandra Craig, said she is pleased that the BBQ sauces have satisfied the standards of the GNBS.
Before SS Natural Fruit Flavoured Inc received accreditation, it had to satisfy certain criteria, such as, be a registered business, provide records of customer feedback, testing of the product at the Government Analyst- Food and Drug Department, provide records of staff training, show proof of citizenship in Guyana, and the raw materials had to be locally sourced.
The Made in Guyana Standards Mark is a registered mark that aims to provide recognition to locally manufactured products for the local and international markets and is a signature of quality for authentic Guyanese products.
Director of Business at the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, John Edghill, in his brief remarks at the presentation, said that when he saw Craig featured in a Stabroek News article, he invited her to discuss the prospect of having the GNBS approve her product to make it more recognisable.

Grilling24x7 Sweet Whiskey Bbq Sauce Recipe
Ive been making this BBQ sauce recipe for a few years now. Its a sweet BBQ sauce with a nice whiskey kick. If you are a fan of a certain whiskey, the flavor of that whiskey will shine through in this recipe. I think thats pretty cool.
Ingredients :2 Tablespoons dried onion flakes½ Teaspoons corn starch or all purpose flour3 Tablespoons molasses3 Tablespoons honey1 and ¼ cup ketchup1 cup of Jack Daniels Whiskey ½ cup apple cider vinegar1 cup packed brown sugar2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce1-2 Tablespoons hot sauce½ Teaspoons black pepper
There is no order to the addition of the ingredients. Just mix them all in a medium sized saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil while constantly stirring. Be very careful here as it can bubble, pop and burn to the pan. So stir often.
Youll see the dry onion flakes floating around in the sauce, but dont worry. You will strain this out during the last step. The reason for using these dry onion flakes is to avoid the need to finely shred an onion. Shredding an onion with a cheese grater, in my opinion, is one of the most painful chores I can think of. So I substituted dry onion flakes followed by straining. The onion flavor is still there with none of the fuss.
Note: This Sweet Whiskey BBQ Sauce Recipe was originally written in 2011. I have kept the recipe the same but totally overhauled a few of the above photos.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Coffee and bourbon unite for the ultimate flavor depth: Coffee and bourbon add such a complexity to a good chili-based dish. The coffee’s roasted notes and the bourbon’s charred oak undertones
Way better than store-bought BBQ sauce: Sure, you can buy BBQ sauce in a jar, but why would you when homemade is much more flavorful, full of natural ingredients and super simple? The flavor boost alone is worth making your own coffee BBQ sauce, but when you throw in those additional perks, you can’t justify buying it at the store.
Easily adjustable to suit your taste: Particular about your BBQ sauce? You can control the seasoning as you see fit. If you shy away from too much heat, cut back on the chili powder. Or maybe you want more heat simply add more chili powder or some cayenne pepper. It’s way more fun and satisfying to create your own sauce!
Simple as it gets: If you can simmer ingredients, you have all the skills necessary to make this recipe. See? You have no reason not to try your hand at this from-scratch BBQ sauce.

Why This Recipe Works
- No chopping and sauteeing: If I can just open a bottle and have something that tastes amazing, I dont want to spend a ton of time and effort to make it myself. So lets take out those extra steps.
- No bits and pieces: This kind of goes along with the last one, but I dont want chunks of onions and peppers in my bbq sauce. It should be smooth, and honestly, Ive made some with green peppers in it, and they just make it taste bitter and strange.
- No ketchup: I want to control the sweetness and spices myself. Starting with tomato paste means I do have to add a couple of extra ingredients to get the right flavor and texture, but I think it is worth it. Plus, I prefer getting a little flavor with my sweetness in the form of brown sugar, molasses, honey, or maple syrup versus the blandness of plain sugar or *gasp* corn syrup.
As I experimented, I found that I could start with my own homemade ketchup recipe. By adding a few more ingredients and simmering it till it becomes thick, I could totally customize my own, dare I say, gourmet barbeque sauces. I started with Balsamic BBQ Sauce, and then created this one.

Is Bourbon Gluten Free
Most bourbons are gluten free and are considered safe for those with celiac disease. Even if wheat, barley, or rye are used in the mash, the distillation process removes the gluten from the bourbon. Do be aware of some that add gluten-containing flavoring after the distillation process.
Many common brands are considered gluten free, including Jim Beam, Buffalo Trace, Makers Mark, Knob Creek, Bulleit, and Four Roses. I like to use Henry McKenna in cooking because it is quite good for its affordable price, making it a great value.
However, everyone reacts differently. If you find that you have symptoms after having bourbon, you may want to avoid it and discuss it with your doctor.

Easy Homemade Bourbon Bbq Sauce
A couple of years ago, my husband got one of those pellet smokers. He has been blending custom rubs and mastering the art of smoking perfect ribs, brisket, and chicken.
After he works his low and slow magic to make perfectly tender meats, we then just fall back on pulling a bottle of barbecue sauce out of the fridge. Ive made a few homemade bbq sauce recipes in the past, and never found one I loved as much as my trusty bottle of Stubbs.
However, I felt his masterpieces deserved something a little more special. So I started playing around with my own sauce recipes. But I do have some criteria.
How To Use
Of course, you can slather this coffee-bourbon BBQ sauce all over grilled or smoked meats, like my favorite tri tip, brisket, smoked chicken and 3-2-1 ribs, but that’s not its only use. Here are a few ideas.
- Spoon onto tacos, quesadillas or tostadas
- Smothered on a burger or sliders
- Use as a dipping sauce for chicken strips
