Shaquanda’s Oooohmami Hot Pepper Sauce
Ryan Walker-Hartshorn wrote about this incredible hot sauce and I had to try it when I spotted it at my local Whole Foods. The name comes from Andre Springers drag persona Shaquanda and their line of hot sauces is inspired by their Barbadian heritage. Being that Im a fan of habanero, I had to go for the Oooohmami, which also has blueberry and balsamic vinegar in it. Its not too spicy, at least by my standards, and makes a fried egg on toast the best breakfast you can have in the mornings. Ive already gone through half the bottle in a month if that tells you anything about how much I love it.

Should I Use A Blender Or A Food Processor For Homemade Hot Sauce
Using a blenderlike this helps make the smoothest, creamiest hot sauce in town. But if you only have a food processor, thats fine too. Just be sure to process until liquified and smooth. Consider straining it through a fine mesh strainer if it is not as smooth as youd like.
If you use a blender, make sure your blender can handle hot liquids. If not, wait until the mixture has cooled a bit before you blend it. Weve had aBlendtec for 4+ years and have never had a problem with hot liquids
Also, this sauce tinted our blender a lovely shade of orange. We have been able to get the color out over time, but heads up if you care about the aesthetics of your kitchen appliances!

How Long Will Homemade Hot Sauce Last
Homemade Hot Sauce is good for about a week in the refrigerator. Glass pint jars work well for storage.
It might seem that with the vinegar, it would last months, but with added ingredients like garlic , you will need to use it within the week.
The good news is that it continues to improve with age after the ingredients have had time to fuse. So, if youre able to, make this 1-2 days in advance.
Kitchen Garden Farm Sriracha Habanero
I have a confession to make that Ive been too afraid to say out loud but here it goes, I think Sriracha is overrated most of the time. Before you get all outraged, let me specify: I love it in pho and a few other dishes but sometimes theres too much vinegar and not enough pure heat. Thats where this one comes in, it features habanero peppers so it packs enough spice that I can actually feel the burn on my tongue . The flavor is slightly sweet so it has a nice balance when I drizzle it over eggs, noodles, or takeout tacos. Ive gone through several bottles this year alone and if prompted I could probably drink the stuff.

A Lime Lover’s Hot Sauce: Sinclair’s Fatalii Hot Sauce
Heat level: Hot
Flavor: Sinclair’s Fatalii has a strong lime flavor that pairs nicely with citrusy Fatalii peppers. If you’re a fan of lime-flavored tortilla chips, its aroma is quite similar if you’re not, you might want to pass on this bottle. With apple cider vinegar as its first ingredient, it also starts and finishes with a mouth-puckering vinegariness. I’d pair it with creamy or rich foods, like quesadillas, pizza, and macaroni and cheese.
Mad Dog 357 No 9 Plutonium
The Mad Dog 357 No. 9 Plutonium is reserved only for those with a rather daring palate. Nothing else comes close to it. At 9 million Scoville Units, the retro nuclear signage on the bottle is sufficient warning about how powerful this sauce is. Should never be consumed directly, reads a warning on the label.
Mad Dog 357 Plutonium No. 9 Pepper turns on the ultimate heat in the world of the hottest hot. The extract is composed of a staggering 60% capsicum. To put this into context, a thousand ounces of pure raw pepper form 1-ounce of sizzling hot, potent plutonium.
If youre looking to simply spice your dinner, youll be going to the wrong place to get a drop of this into your plate.

If You Need Hot Sauce In Your Bag: Tabasco
Tabasco is not one of my go-tos. It’s a classic, but from my point of view, the texture is too watery and the taste is too barbedthe spice is zingy instead of smoldering. But there is a place for it: Take advantage of the bottle’s diminutive size and slip it in your bag or your pocket for on-the-go needs. It’s certainly way better than nothing when it comes to zhuzhing up your lunch.

How Can You Thicken Hot Sauce
There are two ways to thicken hot sauce. You can bring it to a slow boil over medium heat, uncovered, and let any excess water evaporate. Once the hot sauce cools down, it will be slightly thicker.
The other option is to add a thickener, like cornstarch or arrowroot powder. Mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch or arrowroot with 2 teaspoons of water for each cup of hot sauce and then stir into the sauce over medium heat. Continue stirring for about 5 minutes or until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and allow to coolâthe sauce will thicken even more once it cools.
Cholula Original Hot Sauce
Cholula is the baseline hot sauce I judged everything else around. This is a great all-around hot sauce that has a base flavor or vinegar and tomatoes and is slightly hot without being too much. This is the must-have basic hot sauce in my fridge, and I think this is a step up flavor-wise from other big-brand hot sauces like Texas Pete or Louisiana. Shake a few dashes onto tacos, jambalaya, or pizza to add some heat without compromising the flavor of the original dish.

Tan Rosies Garlic & Pepper Sauce
Best for: Caribbean heat
Heat rating: 8/10
The most memorable characteristic of Tan Rosies Garlic & Pepper Sauce is its severe and long-lasting burn. It was without a doubt one of the hottest hot sauces we tasted, making it a must-taste for heat freaks.
At this end of the spice scale, it gets a little harder to isolate flavours amidst the ferocious heat, though we could just about discern a sour, metallic, garlicky taste that would work a charm on Sports Bar-style wings. Tan Rosies garlic and pepper sauce gets its considerable kick from the scotch bonnet pepper so named for its resemblance to the tam o shanter hat.
