Emily Williams, the co-founder, and CEO of Slice of Sauce comes from a hospitality background.

Her father is a restauranteur in Michigan. While helping him braise vegetables for a barbecue sauce one day, her attention was drawn to a handful of unused yet rich in nutrients parts of vegetables.

She immediately mix them, ground them, and dried them to see what will happen. Something amazing happened and she developed a concentrated sheet of spices and flavor to use with other dishes.

Thus the idea for the Slice of Sauce company was born.

My Take On A Slice Of Sauce

When they did their Kickstarter, Emily and Cole got a lot of press. But then there were some rumblings in the foodie community. One blogger on Vice accused them of copying the product from chef Ernesto Uchimura, who began using what he called ketchup leather on his signature burgers at the LA eatery Plan Check. While the chef has moved on, ketchup leather remains on the menu.

As for the product itself, Id be willing to try it, but not on a hot dog. Its a novelty item and far pricier than ketchup. A bottle of ketchup costs about two bucks while 8 ketchup slices costs $5.99. I doubt Id go beyond trying it and use it regularly though.

Husband and wife team Cody and Emily Williams appeared on “Shark Tank” with an unusual pitch . The couple not only brought an unusual product, but they also had the unusual caveat of having never sold a single unit! What’s even more surprising is that despite seeming a little green in the sales arena, the Williamses had actually been fending off advances from “Shark Tank” for more than two years. As explained in a Tig Talks interview , they were first invited to apply to the show back in 2018 but felt they weren’t ready.

When the couple appeared on “Shark Tank” Season 12 in January 2021, they still had some hiccups in their production process to work through . These all-natural, clean ingredient condiments were being manually produced at the time of the show. Before we jump into Shark Tank and everybodyâs conversation, Iâm glad you think this was a warm, safe space. I also think itâs important to talk about this journey thus far. Itâs not been easy creating this product. Starting something that isnât out there has left you with some unique challenges like finding the right kind of co-packer, being able to explain to people what the hell this is, and how the hell they use it. What have been some of those lessons? Both the aggravating moments and invigorating ones.

From 2018 to March of 2020, where they continuing to reach out to you? Are they continuing to pursue you? What was the dialogue? Was it like you went dark and then you re-engaged?

The Sharks loved the taste of their products but were not happy with the price. Luckily, they had one Shark interested to invest. Alex Rodriguez offered them a deal of $200,000 as a convertible note.

The Slice Is Created By Dehydrating Sauces

In order to create a Slice of Sauce, the company takes tomatoes and fewer than 10 other ingredients in order to create the flavor for the slices. According to the website, they use careful dehydration and some special dance moves to create the condiment slice.

The product is also completely allergen-free. The process of creating the slice does not use wheat/gluten, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, soy, fish or shellfish.

History Of The Founders

Slice of Sauce was founded by the couple Cole and Emily Williams who lived in Austin, Texas. The two were high school sweethearts who both had a passion for food.

Emily was the one who came up with the idea for Slice of Sauce while she was younger. Her father worked in a restaurant and Emily was always helping him out in the kitchen. She would watch as her father would make sauces and dressings from scratch and she was fascinated by the process.

One day, her father decided to prepare a sauce, as she was helping him out, Emily noticed a pile of leftover vegetables that would be disposed of. She thought to herself, there has to be a better way to use these leftovers. After all, itd really be a waste to throw perfectly usable veggies that are filled with nutrients.

First thing they did was grounding them into a paste, mixing them and adding some vinegar, spices, and sugar to taste.

Instead of placing it in a bottle, they decided on drying it, creating a small sheet of sauce. Emily was curious how these would taste on a sandwich so she took one and tried it out. It was a success! So, both Emily and her father decided to experiment with the leftovers and see if they could come up with a new recipe. The sauce not only tasted great but it also didnt make her sandwich soggy or drip all over the place. Emily knew she was onto something special.

In March of 2018 the couple initiated a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise funds for their business.$15,000
