It was with this latter group in mind that Harry Robertson began chopping peppers six years ago in pursuit of the perfectly balanced hot sauce.

One of the big things that I saw in hot sauces is that there was a lot of hype out there for a really hot, hot sauce, a practical joke category of hot sauce that was inedible, he says. You would ruin your friends life or at least their night by feeding it to them.

Robertson, 34, had a different vision: a sauce that artfully combined heat, sweetness and smoke. A sauce that would show the proper respect for the flavor of peppers, as well as their heat. It was a sauce that took several months of experimenting to perfect.

After leaving a job as a salesman at Soundtrack, Robertson started his search for the holy grail of hot, armed only with a lifelong love of hot peppers, $400 and a friend willing to taste-test whatever sauce he came up with. Read more here

Hey everyone, Rudy Reviews is back with a hot sauce review! Today Ill be reporting on a sauce from Boulder Hot Sauce Company called Harrys Habanero. Boulder Hot Sauce Company is located in Boulder, CO and is operated by a gentleman named Harry Robertson who makes all of the sauces by hand and are made with 100% fresh ingredients that contain no fillers or congealers. On their website, he proclaims that sweet carrots act as the natural thickener for this sauce. Harry also makes another sauce which he named Smokey Serrano.

Ingredients:

Purified Water, Vinegar, Habanero Peppers, Fresh Poblano Peppers, Fresh Onions, Fresh Carrots, Red Ripe Serrano Peppers, Fresh Garlic, and Salt.

Aroma:

2 out of 5. This sauce was a surprise to me when I first had a go at it. Despite the label not stating this, I do believe that Harry smokes his peppers because its undeniable. Taking another sniff I detected some vinegar as well as onion. I dont smell any of the peppers, carrots or garlic. Its mostly just a smoke bomb to me.

Appearance and Texture.

Taste Straight Up.

2 out of 5. Much like the aroma of this sauce, its a smoke bomb. The smokiness is coupled with vinegar and a very sweet note as well which I think would be from the onions and carrots. I dont taste the peppers at all but I do catch just a little bit of garlic. Not much, but it makes itself known.
