These days, I dont eat french fries or burgers without my beloved fry sauce. Its not quite as simple as my parents version of equal parts ketchup and mayo, but its 10o times better and I can not get enough of it. The restaurant, part of a fast-casual national chain based in Kansas, opened in mid-August and features distinctive red-and-white striped awnings and red-and-white interior decor. It has room for more than 100 diners inside, plus seating on the patio. Drive-through service also is available.
During our visit, my husband and I decided try some of the menu items for which the chain is best known, including fry sauce, of course.
When I asked the woman behind the counter who took our order what fry sauce was, she shrugged and said, “It’s like Thousand Island dressing.”
They look similar. Both contain mayonnaise and ketchup, although the dressing can be made with Tabasco sauce or tomato puree instead of ketchup. But while the dressing usually has pickles or other chopped ingredients, fry sauce is smooth. The recipe for Freddy’s zingy version of fry sauce apparently is a secret.
