For Extra Credit Take On Anyor Allof The Following:

3. Turn to your spice drawer and condiment cubby: If your sauce is missing depth and complexity, open your pantry or fridge and start exploring. Decide whether youre aiming for spicy , smoky , or fruity , and mix and match to your hearts desire. Remember to taste often, before things get too wild.

4. Add a Parmesan or pecorino rind while it simmers. To make the sauce more salty and savory, an oft-discarded cheese rind can help a pot of humble beans and can enliven your wan tomato sauce, too. Toss a halved onion in while you’re at it. Pro tip: Save your Parm rinds in the freezer . Anytime you want to dress up a jar of store-bought tomato sauce, the rind will be ready to go

5. Speaking of a salty je ne sais quoi, introduce an anchovy. Heat some olive oil in your saucepan, sauté an anchovy or two until it starts to melt down into oblivion, throw in a few smashed garlic cloves if youve got them, then pour in your jar of tomato sauce. Call me crazy, but Ive also been known to skip the anchovies and add a splash of fish sauce and a glug of soy sauce instead.

6. Harness the power of sautéed vegetables. Before you heat up the sauce, sauté vegetables until they start to brown. I usually keep it basic with onion and garlic, but mirepoix or a few handfuls of sliced mushrooms work well, too. And if you deglaze the pan with wine or stock, youll leave no caramelized bit behind.

How do you dress up your store-bought tomato sauce? Let us know in the comments.

A plane ticket to Italy ~ $1000Rao’s Homemade Pasta Sauce ~ $9

It’s apparent what’s more cost-efficient here, but I would totally justify spending $1000 to visit Italy again, but I can’t justify spending $9 on a bottle of Rao’s Homemade sauce.

I know my logic’s a bit off, but let’s face it, there are no shortcuts in getting to Europe without flying, however there are many good alternatives to delicious pasta sauces besides Rao’s. Agreed?

What Is Marinara Sauce

Rao

To compare to the their pizza sauce, Raos Homemades Marinara Sauce contains: Italian Whole Peeled Tomatoes, Olive Oil, Onions, Salt, Garlic, Basil, Black Pepper, Oregano.

At first glance this may look incredibly similar to the pizza sauce because it is. But if you look more closely, youll notice that their marinara doesnt contain cherry tomatoes nor carrots, like the pizza sauce does. This results in a lighter and somewhat less sweet sauce, and the sprinkle of black pepper and oregano on there are nothing compared to the punch of oregano flavor youd get from a pizza sauce.

Yet the marinara is often thought of as more savory, and this is due to the addition of allium. Both modern marinaras and pizza sauces usually contain garlic, at least in the US, but marinara features the onion in a different way. Onions for a marinara sauce are roasted slowly, browning them until theyre sticky sweet & savory, and then blending them into whole crushed tomatoes before lightly cooking the mixture.

First things first. Ive youve never had Raos sauces, youre truly missing out. Yes, they are more expensive than regular big brand sauces, but the difference in taste and quality is absolutely incredible.

Delicious speaks for itself. What Veggies Can I Add To This Dish

I wouldn’t go too crazy adding veggies to this spaghetti else it’ll take away from the pasta, however some fresh spinach would be good I this pasta.

Instead of adding veggies to the pasta directly, a side of veggies, such as sauteed spinach, roasted broccoli, and sauteed zucchini would all be wonderful.

    Is Raos Marinara Sauce Good

Raos marinara sauce is not only good, but it is literally the only sauce you will ever buy. There are two reasons for this: the first has to do with the quality of the sauce itself. Its just that good. It has the perfect amount of flavor and seasoning, and the consistency is nice, as in, not too runny, not too thick. Basically, its their super sauce.

The ingredients are simple, and the line is exactly what you would find in a recipe for most homemade marinaras: Italian tomatoes, olive oil, onion, garlic, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Unlike many canned tomato sauces, this one has no added sugar, preservatives, or colorants, so every small but powerful ingredient in the sauce has its moment in the limelight.

I like to mix it with al dente penne or fusilli, along with frozen peas and small chunks of fresh mozzarella, its the most sublimely comforting dinner of the week. You can also use it to make manicotti, tomato soup, or as a dip for mozzarella sticks. .

The other reason its such a hit has to do with the mysterious allure of the legendary restaurant the sauce originated from Rao in New York Citys East Harlem neighborhood.

But practically speaking, a jar of Raos marinara sauce is the closest thing I will probably have for dinner at Raos. And honestly, thats fine with me. Id rather be sitting comfortably at home in my pajamas, anyway, with a hot plate of pasta and the latest stranger episode most nights.
