It can be kept in the refrigerator for a few hours before using. The lid of the sauce pot should be tightly closed. Your sauce may taste bad if it gets air. It can also spoil if left at room temperature. It is not recommended to freeze homemade big mac sauce.

Big Mac Burger And Assembly Instructions

Step 1 Make The Dressing

Mix mayo, diced pickles, mustard, vinegar, onion, paprika, and Swerve. Set aside while you get the other ingredients together. Set aside while you get the other ingredients together.

Burger Instructions

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, season with salt, and chill until ready to use.

To make patties, season the mince with salt and pepper and form into 4 balls using about 1/3 cup mince each.

Place each on baking paper and flatten to form four x 15cm circles. Heat bbq or oil in a large frypan over high heat.

In 2 batches, cook beef patties for 1-2 minutes on each side until lightly charred and cooked through. Remove from heat and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining two patties.

Carefully slice each burger bun into three sections, then lightly toast.

To assemble the burgers, spread Big Mac sauce over the bottom bun. Top with some chopped onion, shredded lettuce, a slice of cheese, beef patty, and some pickle slices.

Top with the middle bun layer. Next, spread with more Big Mac sauce, onion, lettuce, pickles, beef patty, and finish with more sauce. Top with burger lid and serve immediately.

It is no secret that here at Delish UK headquarters, we’re kinda obsessed with McDonald’s, so we’re 100% missing our Maccy’s fix while the fast-food chain is currently closed.

And one of the things we’re missing the most is of course the humble Big Mac. From the bun to patty ratio, the perfectly melted cheese, and of course THE BIG MAC SAUCE, we can’t get enough of the burger.

Which is why we decided to recreate our very own Big Mac. And trust us, making one yourself is sooooo rewarding and SO worth it.

Big Mac Sauce

Of course, the most famous part of the Big Mac, is the special sauce. And while many of us thought the sauce was a secret, the recipe has actually been available for years. It consists of store-bought mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish and yellow mustard whisked together with vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika. We’ve also added tomato ketchup to give it that salmon-y pink colour because special sauce doesn’t actually contain any ketchup – YEP!

Building The Burger

For four burgers, you need eight buns, because the Mac uses two bun bases and one bun top, along with two patties. As well as this, those patties are THIN, so we found that weighing out 50g of beef mince mixture, and spreading it into a 12cm ring mould creates that nice thin burger.

While I love this recipe as it is, you can try different ways to make it stand out even more.

One of the best things that you can do is toast the bun. I dont know why but a toasted bun makes any sandwich over the top delicious. Theres something about that crisp outer crust with the soft center paired up with the burger and ingredients that will have you longing for more.

Just be careful that you dont burn the bun because this is something that Im known for. I toast my buns on the stovetop with a bit of butter which produces a great flavor but you have to really watch so that you dont burn it.

And if you do burn it, you can just scrape off the burnt part with a butter knife carefullysuch an easy hack to know! All you have to do is hold the burnt bun over the sink and use the butter knife at an angle to slide across the bread. It will flake off the burnt part of the bread, saving it to still eat and enjoy!

Lettuce Cheese Pickles And Onions

McDonald’s uses iceberg lettuce, shredded, and processed cheese. That means the ones that come wrapped in plastic that you pick up at the grocery store. The pickles come from Mr. Chips the dill pickle is flat on top and doesn’t have any ‘crinkle’ to it. You can’t pick up a jar of Mr. Chips pickles at your local store, but any flat dill pickle will get the job done.

The onions seem to be tricky, but it’s really rather simple. McDonald’s uses re-hydrated onions, so we’ll just make our own.
