Back then there wasnt the Food Network or really much of the internet. so I was relegated to looking for recipes in magazines at the Library.   • This homemade low sodium spaghetti sauce recipe can be easily made ahead of time and in large batches. You can then separate into serving portions and freeze for a quick meal in the future. Add review. Considering that many people on no salt diets are also not allowed to consume any alcohol makes this recipe a bit pointless given the inclusion of a cup of wine! Give me a break! The wine is cooked in the sauce so the small amount of alcohol will be cooked off resulting in zero alcohol content. Most people on low salt diets are due to heart issues, which red wine actually is recommended to consume even!

Everything I find says because of the acidity of tomatoes it has to be a pressure cooker. Instructions Remove the cores and roughly dice the tomatoes. Screw on rings to seal lids. There are countless different types of store-bought pasta sauces to choose from. To choose a healthier pasta sauce, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Sodium content. The amount of sodium in store-bought pasta sauce varies greatly by brand, with some varieties containing over 600mg in a single serving. For reference, the Food and Drug Administration states that a product must contain less than 140mg per serving to claim its low sodium on the label .

How To Make Low Sodium Spaghetti Sauce

First start browning the beef and chop up the ground beef finely as it cooks. While that is initially cooking chop up the onion and add to the beef when its almost finished. I like to chop up my onion finely for this sauce and using this Slap Chopper from Amazon makes it quick and easy. Then while those both finish cooking you can measure out the rest of the ingredients. I personally like to let the hamburger and onion really brown up it will soften when simmering in the sauce later. Then add the garlic in for about the last minute of cooking. Both things I think add even more flavor.

Then, add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, seasonings, and sugar and bring the mixture to a light boil for a minute. Be careful of bubbling splatters! Add water, cover pot and turn heat down to a low simmer for 30 minutes or longer, to really bring out the flavor. The longer you simmer it, the more the flavors will blend together and intensify. Also the longer it simmers the thicker it will be. If it gets to thick just add a little more water.

Make sure youve got all your tools and ingredients ready when you begin canning spaghetti sauce . When youre ready to start canning, heres how:

  • Combine a cup of tomato purée, onion, celery, carrot, and garlic in a large pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and boil gently until vegetables are tender.
