How To Make Honey Mustard Dressing
This creamy honey mustard dressing is incredibly simple to make and you probably already have everything you need to make it in your kitchen.
This better-than-storebought dressing uses real healthy ingredients so you can feel good about what you are eating. Heres what you will need:
- Mustard plays a major role. We prefer to use creamy Dijon mustard for this, but whole grain or even regular yellow mustard will work in its place.
- Honey balances the tanginess of the mustard. We love using local raw honey.
- Apple cider vinegar marries the mustard and honey and turns this into a show-stopping salad dressing. When buying apple cider vinegar, we look for the bottles with the mother still in the bottle , since they have more flavor. Other kinds of vinegar can work here , but we prefer apple cider vinegar for its flavor.
- Olive oil makes the dressing silky and luxurious. It also adds flavor.
- Fresh lemon juice is optional but highly recommended. It makes the dressing pop. I like to add the juice from one or two lemon wedges.
- Salt and fresh ground black pepper are a must.
We find that this dressing is creamy enough and does not need any additional ingredients. It amazing what happens when you whisk the mustard with olive oil and vinegar.
Just a few seconds of whisking turns the dressing into a single emulsified mixture. For a thicker or even creamier dressing whisk in a little sour cream or plain yogurt.

Honey Mustard Sauce Recipe
Honey Mustard Sauce is a classic. Both honey and mustard have long been used in the culinary world as separate ingredients. But together, they taste even better!
Honestly, when I was growing up, I was not a fan of mustard. It is quite overpowering for my taste. So, when I discovered this sauce, I fell in love!
The honey balances out the strong taste of the mustard nicely which is probably the reason why this was invented in the first place. These two main ingredients are simply made for each other!
I could have visited restaurants that have this sauce in their menu more frequently than I would like to just so I could have a taste of this dip along with my chicken nugget.
And that is why knowing this recipe is just so practical! I can have it anytime I want, and it is that easy to prepare at home. The recipe uses only a few basic ingredients that I always have in my pantry anyway.
So, if you plan on hosting a movie night, I recommend adding this to your menu to dip your favorite French fries in or to use in sandwiches or wraps.

Honey Mustard Swaps And Substitutions
As its not a strictly traditional recipe, honey mustard gives us some room to find those flavors and textures which appeal to us personally, yet still make it recognizable to others. Here are a few swaps and substitutions you can try:
- Replace the honey with maple syrup, although it will form a looser consistency.
- Swap the black peppercorns with 1 teaspoon of whole allspice berries for a deeper flavor with less spicy warmth.
- Use only yellow mustard seeds for a less intense mustard.
Can You Make It Without Mayonnaise
The mayonnaise in this honey mustard dipping sauce helps to make it creamy and thick, without it you will have a thinner dressing or marinade. If you want to make this healthier, you can use low fat mayo, though this can result in a runnier sauce, otherwise sour cream or plain yogurt will make great replacements.

What Is The Best Honey To Use
To have the best experience, use high-quality organic ones. But since some processed honey available in the market could contain added sugar or sweeteners, it is always better to go with organic ones.
The raw kind is the healthiest with it being less processed and so, a lot of its natural components are preserved. Processing it can remove some of the healthy pollen and antioxidants. But since it is expensive, you can go use that in other dishes. For this dip, you can simply use organic.
What Is Honey Mustard
Most honey mustards use the milder yellow mustard seeds to temper the pungent nature of mustard, and then sweeten it up with honey. All of which makes it the Kids Table of mustards. Instead, we use a small amount of brown mustard seeds to sharpen the flavor, as well as black peppercorns to round out the taste with some mild heat.

- Lemon juice: The juice keeps the recipe tasting fresh.

Weeks! The great part about this homemade Honey Mustard sauce is that it will last for weeks in the refrigerator.
