    Why Is My Lasagna Watery

A: Soupy lasagna is either a result of wet noodles that were not drained properly or lasagna was layered with too much sauce. While you can make lasagna ahead and refrigerate or freeze it, it wont reduce the moisture content. No boil noodles will soak up watery sauce and help eliminate wet noodles.

    How To Make Ragu Lasagna

    Spaghetti Lasagna

Skip a step or two with a jar of Ragu!

Whats great about this recipe is it yields a lasagna so delectable, it seems like you worked so hard on it when in reality, youll hardly work at all.

This lasagna is still complete with all three layers of al dente flat noodles, meaty marinara, and cheesy sauce.

But instead of making two of the three layers from scratch, youll do a bit of a shortcut.

Theres no need to pre-cook the noodles in this recipe. The oven takes care of everything for you.

Instead of the usual cream or bechamel sauce, youll just combine three cheeses ricotta, parmesan, and mozzarella with eggs.

Then, for the marinara, youll skip all the browning and cooking and use a jar of Ragu pasta sauce instead.

Once youve prepped the noodles and the sauces, its time to assemble.

Start with the pasta sauce. If you place the noodles first, theyll only stick to the bottom. The pasta sauce serves as a protection.

After the sauce, layer 4 noodles and spoon over more of the sauce, followed by half of the cheese mixture.

Repeat layering the sauce, noodles, and cheese. End with the last 4 noodles and the remaining pasta sauce.

Youre now ready to bake! This lasagna requires two stages. The first is to bake the lasagna, and the 2nd is to melt and brown the cheese.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

What Are The Best Kind Of Noodles To Use For Lasagna

Homemade pasta? Regular lasagna noodles? No-boil noodles? What kind of pasta should you use?

My first choice for pasta is always homemade pasta. It’s just so much better than anything that comes dried and pre-packaged.

And yet, even though making pasta doesn’t take nearly as much time as you might think, it does take time that I don’t always have. So, when I’m not making homemade pasta, I usually use no-boil oven ready lasagna noodles.

Open up the package and layer them right in the pan, no boiling required. This saves a considerable amount of time and hassle, something I’m super grateful for on the nights when I don’t have time to make it from scratch.

If you can’t find no-boil noodles, purchase whatever variety you like and follow the package instructions to boil the noodles before assembling the lasagna.

Pro tip if using traditional dried noodles:Toss the cooked noodles with a bit of olive oil so they don’t stick together. As the noodles cool, they will stick together unless you coat them with a bit of oil.

Also – if you’re using traditional lasagna noodles, be careful to not overcook them. You want them to be super al dente – tender, but not cooked through. Typically, this means cooking them for only about two minutes.

How To Keep The Structure Of Lasagna From Falling Apart

Lasagna loses its structure from excess ingredients or poorly handled lasagna noodles. Too much filling or sauce can weigh down the noodles and take a longer cooking time. Not soaking the pasta sheets properly or using the wrong kind of noodles will impact how much sauce you need. You can make lasagna too wet to keep its structure or work the other extreme. Which, is why the kind you use and how it needs to be prepped will mean everything!

Keep the sauce and filling proportionally. Try to avoid the over usage of cheese or sauce for a well-structioned lasagna dish. Remember too much filling will be too heavy and too much sauce will result in slippery fall-apart noodles depending on the kind of lasagna sheets you use.

  • Whats The Best Pan To Use For Lasagna

    Spaghetti Lasagna

I used a 9×13 pan for this Meat Lasagna. But a Lasagna pan is a great investment, especially if youre loving this pasta dish. Lasagna pans are not the same as 9 x 13 casserole pans.

These pans are deeper in order to accommodate for the layers in the dish. Lasagna typically has four layers of noodles, which usually fit pretty nicely in a lasagna pan.

    How To Store Your Leftovers

Another great thing about this lasagna recipe is that it feeds a crowd and tastes great even the next day.

Just store leftovers in the fridge and theyll keep well for up to 5 days.

You can either cover the dish with plastic wrap or slice it into smaller pieces and transfer them into air-tight containers.

    Ricotta Or Cottage Cheese

The most common cheeses found in lasagna are mozzarella, parmesan, and cottage or ricotta cheese. Many recipes call for ricotta but cottage will work just as good! Any small curd cheese like mascarpone, farmers cheese, or even cream cheese can be used to make a cheese filling for lasagna. Small curd cheeses will melt creamier, whereas grated cheeses will give you more of a stringy effect which is good in proportion.

Maybe. You can buy noodles that do not need to be boiled first but they need to specifically be labeled as no-boil lasagna noodles. If you aren’t boiling lasagna noodles before baking, make sure the layers below and above the noodles are wet and cover the entire noodle. Make sure you also cover the dish when baking. If you have the time, regular lasagna noodles bake up better if they’re boiled first.

    Buy gluten free lasagna noodles.

You do not have to cover with foil but we recommend it. Your lasagna will cook more evenly if you cover with foil. Without foil it will tend to look finished on top before the center is cooked.
