Sonic’s Crave Cheeseburger features a new sweet and tangy, “top-secret” Crave Sauce, which is served along with a seasoned beef patty, American cheese, tomatoes, crinkle-cut pickles, diced onions, and chopped lettuce on a toasted bakery bun.
Prices vary but the Crave Cheeseburger is priced at $3.99 in my area. It’s available for a limited time through August 29, while supplies last. Sonic is offering a one-time use deal where you can get one for half-price when you order online or through their app until August 1, 2021.
So What Is In A Sonic Crave Cheeseburger Exactly
According to the burger loving fools over at Chewboom the Crave Cheeseburger includes a pure beef patty topped with cheese, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce and onions all put between two halves of a toasted bun.
But what puts it over the top in crave-ability is the Secret Sonic Crave Sauce. We have no clue what is in it but were willing to bet its more interesting than the secret sauce McDonalds puts on a Big Mac. Spoiler alert: its just Thousand Island dressing.
Sonic so wants you to try one that until August 1, you can get one for half price if you place your order online or through the Sonic app. Which is good because the Crave Cheeseburger will only be around until August 29, which means you have until the end of the summer to experience the crave-ability for yourself.

These are listed as the spiciest option of the 6 and by that regard, the Pineapple Habanero sauce is pretty disappointing. This sauce maxes out a little bit below BWWs medium sauce. There is no amount of it that I could eat that would make my face numb.
BUT there is a good amount of flavor here, though honestly the Habanero doesnt come through that strongly as a distinguishable flavor. Its just a good mix of heat and flavor. Some Pineapple Habanero wings that Ive had elsewhere has had too extremes of a flavor juxtipositoin but this is a good balance. If you can handle a bit of heat and are looking for something different, get these.

I dont understand what this sauce is, but its pretty good. Like the Pineapple Habanero, this is more of a glaze and the wings stay crispy. Its like a buffalo sauce with more sugar, probably.
This, I think, was the 3rd hottest item on the menu and it was not noticeably spicy in any interesting way.

We’ll be honest it’s been a minute since the idea of a Sonic cheeseburger has tickled our taste buds. The drive-thru fast food chain best known for its nugget-ice slushes, lemonades, and limeades certainly has a special place in our hearts, but the restaurant’s cheeseburger has never been the thing on the menu to keep us coming back for more. Burger season is upon us. In fact, July 1 marks the beginning of National Grilling Month , meaning you’ll likely have absolutely zero problem eating all sorts of burgers this summer. But to make your charred beef and melty cheese intake even easier, Sonic Drive-In just added a new cheeseburger as part of its revamped burger menu.
The all-new menu item, dubbed the Crave Cheeseburger, features the chain’s new, “top secret” Crave Sauce, which it describes as sweet and tangy. The burger is also equipped with standard toppingstomatoes, crinkle-cut pickles, diced onions, and chopped lettuceall on a toasted bun. You can get either as a single or a double, according Sonic’s Monday announcement.
The secret is in the sauce with the new Crave Cheeseburger, which irresistibly complements the savory flavors and stacked fixings of the SONIC Cheeseburger, said Scott Uehlein, Sonic’s vice president of product innovation and development, in a statement.
The Crave Cheeseburger arrives as part of Sonic’s recent efforts to revamp its burger lineup. The drive-in chain said it has made “incremental improvements” to every single ingredient it uses for its burgers, resulting in a “superior burger experience from top to bottom.” This is a pretty big deal, considering Sonic’s burgers were already tasty. Its SuperSONIC Bacon Double Cheeseburger, for example, was nominated for a Fastie, Thrillist’s fast food awards, in the Best Bacon Cheeseburger category.

These were gross. They smelled gross and they didnt taste good either. I had the word tangy in my tasting notes but later switched that word to sour. These are NOT like BWWs Asian Zing, which is a generally good flavor. These are funky in a way that I am not interested in from a fast food restaurant.
Part of the problem could have been that I ate them right after the Parmesan Garlic and the flavors do not go well together. However, these are the only flavor of the 6 that I wouldnt recommend getting.

So we can all agree that Sonic burgers are pretty good. Not in the same neighborhood as the greatness that is Five Guys but not too bad for a fast food chain. But someone at Sonic clearly thought they could do better, so over the last few weeks Sonic has been giving their burgers some upgrades.
Which is never really a bad idea. Most people have certain expectations when it comes to fast food burgers. Theyre supposed to be hot, fresh and taste better than the paper it comes wrapped in. I know, not the highest of expectations but this is fast food.
So you have to commend Sonic for at least trying to take their burgers up a notch. I mean, their Popcorn Chicken Po Boy Sandwich was a huge hit so they must be doing something right. Why not try that same can do attitude on their burgers.
Their latest attempt to give you a better burger experience is the new Crave Cheeseburger. What gives it such a high level of crave-ability? If you ask Sonic, theyll tell you it all has to do with their top secret, wed tell you but then wed have to kill you, Sonic Crave Sauce.

We headed over to the closest Sonic Drive In. I noticed online that if I ordered the Crave cheeseburger through the app that I could get it for half price. So, that was a great start to the trip. The burger is $3.99, so I believed that it was a good value but even better at $1.99!
I found that the burger was actually pretty good for a fast food cheeseburger. It seemed like it was being made fresh to order as I pulled up to check in and waited for the car hop to deliver. I also ordered some Tater Tots and the signature cherry limeade drink.
My first impression was that this was a big, good-looking cheeseburger. I had thought about ordering the double crave cheeseburger, but was glad that I didnt. The bun was toasted, and the big burger was beefy and cooked nicely. Good seared crust on the burger.
The vegetables were fresh, cool and crisp. Plenty of iceberg lettuce, 2 slices of plum tomato, 3 crinkle cut pickles and then the secret crave sauce. The secret crave sauce was sweet and tangy, reminding me of a Southern comeback sauce more than a Thousand island dressing. Im not sure what Sonic was going for here, but they nailed it with this special crave burger sauce!

I was hopeful that this would be my 2nd favorite option, but it wasnt. The sauce flavor was fine, but whatever the sauce was made out of made the wings soggy. This was the only flavor of the 6 that came with soggy wings.
This is probably similar in heat to BWWs mild wings, but perhaps with even less flavor. I dont think these are the right color either. Mainly these are knocked points for their sogginess.
