How To Serve Alfredo Sauce

Shrimps Alfredo using Ragu Classic Alfredo Sauce

My husband and I like fettuccini Alfredo. Since I have a gluten sensitivity, I get fettuccini pasta thats gluten-free.

You can serve this however you like, but Ive found this to be the best way to serve this easy recipe.

After cooking the pasta and putting it on the plate or in the bowl, I scoop some pasta sauce over it. Then I top it with parmesan or a blend of parmesan and Romano.

Its always good to enjoy any pasta dish with a side salad or steamed vegetable. My husband also enjoys a slice of crusty Italian bread with butter.

How To Season Shrimp For Alfredo

When making shrimp alfredo pasta, the shrimp is the star of the dish in my opinion. Some people like to use small shrimp that is almost hidden in their pasta, but I decided to use jumbo shrimp, in its shell for the ultimate flavor. Cooking shrimp with its shell still on helps trap the flavors and keeps the shrimp from drying out.

Of course, you can choose to use tail off and peeled shrimp, if desired.

The sauce that is created to make this garlic shrimp alfredo is what is going to season the shrimp for alfredo. Were cooking the shrimp in a butter and olive oil base, adding in freshly minced garlic, fresh chopped parsley, and simple salt and pepper. Simplicity is overlooked, but for this shrimp pasta alfredo recipe, it is key!

If desired, you can add in homemade Italian seasoning, or switch things up with Cajun seasoning for a kick!

  • Add veggies like steamed or sauteed broccoli, asparagus, red bell pepper or sundried tomatoes to your pasta.
  • Spice it up with the addition of cajun seasoning.
  • Add sauteed scallops or salmon for a seafood alfredo.
  • Swap the shrimp for chicken or smoked sausage, or add all three!

What Is Alfredo Sauce

WordPress.com

Alfredo sauce is named after an Italian restaurant owner named Alfredo , who created this dish in 1920s in Rome. He concocted a beautiful sauce made from butter, cream, and Parmesan, added it atop a bed of piping hot fettuccini, and finished it off with a hefty sprinkling of pepper.

I like to add garlic to mine as well as flour to the butter to make a roux so that the sauce stays nice and creamy.

Mince The Garlic And Chop The Parsley For This 20

Before you heat up your pan, be sure your garlic and Italian parsley are prepared. For this 20-minute shrimp Alfredo recipe, the parsley is being used as much more than just a garnish. Although, you’ll certainly reserve some for the final touch. Italian parsley offers a fresh flavor to round out the heavy, creaminess of the Alfredo sauce.

Italian parsley is the parsley option in the produce section with flat leaves. The curled leaf option doesn’t actually impart much flavor, and it’s certainly used more often as just a garnish. The curled leaf parsley may also have a tough texture to it. If you can’t find Italian parsley, you can consider swapping it out for the curled leaf version, or omit it altogether based on your preference.

To prepare the parsley, wash it, dry it, and then remove the leaves from the stem. Gather the leaves on your cutting board, and then finely chop the parsley to be utilized for this recipe. To prep the garlic for this recipe, peel the skin off of the three cloves. Use the side of a large chef’s knife to crush the cloves, and then mince it up.

How To Make Homemade Shrimp Alfredo Pasta

This shrimp alfredo recipe is basically two parts. The sauce, and the shrimp.

There are two ways you could make a homemade Alfredo Sauce. The traditional way involves a few simple ingredients and basically heating them on the stove and melting the cheese, and the non-traditional method involves creating a roux.

I think both methods are delicious, and the roux method is definitely a skinnier recipe since it uses a lot less butter and a cream. However if I had to choose, its going to be traditional Alfredo every time. Its rich, its creamy and pure decadence.

How Much Does A Pound Of Pasta Serve

One pound of dried pasta serves 8-12 servings. Adult servings is about 2 cups of cooked pasta and children servings can be as little as 1/2 cup -1 cup of cooked pasta depending on the child. Creamy sauces and additional toppings can also be very filling so you may even be able to stretch out the servings even more.

How To Simmer Alfredo Sauce From The Jar

The best way to improve premade sauce is to gently simmer it while you cook your pasta. This will help to enhance its flavor and will also reduce the sauce a bit. Once the sauce has simmered on medium or medium-low heat, and the pasta is cooked, pour the pasta into the sauce, rather than the other way around. This will allow you to coat all the pasta with the sauce effectively.

Dont forget to sprinkle some fresh herbs or parmesan cheese on top of your pasta before serving.

If youre storing the garlicky shrimp with the alfredo pasta in the refrigerator together, I would not suggest more than two days. And this is with the shrimp alfredo stored in a container with a tight fitting lid.

Can I Use Milk Instead Of Heavy Cream In The Alfredo Sauce

A traditional Alfredo has butter, cream and cheese. If you are simply out of heavy cream, or want to cut back the calories and use milk instead, youll need to make a roux based bechamel sauce and add Parmesan cheese to it. You can see instructions for this lighter sauce in my Chicken Alfredo Baked Ziti recipe.

    Alfredo Sauce Making Tips

  • The cheese is important! You will want to buy only fresh Parmesan cheese when you make your homemade sauce. The grated stuff in the can doesnt melt and can end up tasting grainy, and the pre-packaged shredded Parmesan wont melt as well either because of the coating they add to it to keep it from sticking together in the bag. Use freshly grated Parmesan for the very best results.
  • How to thicken a thin Alfredo sauce: Sauce not thick enough for you? Add a couple ounces of softened cream cheese to your sauce and it will give it a creamier texture and will help it thicken up a bit. You could also add a rou to the mixture. To do this, melt a couple of teaspoons of butter in a small saucepan, and add a couple teaspoons of flour. Cook until golden, then add to your simmering sauce and stir until its completely incorporated.
  • Let it simmer. Be sure to turn the heat down when you add the Parmesan cheese. You dont want to boil this sauce at all, just a simmer will do fine. Boiling can result in a broken sauce, and nobody likes that.

Can I Use Jarred Alfredo Sauce

Yes, you can. If youre short in time, you can always use jarred alfredo sauce into your pasta. I dont have favorites but Bertolli and Barilla have pretty good reviews, somehow. And to add more like a homemade flavor into it, you may use fresh minced garlic into the mix, butter and red pepper flakes for that additional kick.

    How To Reheat Shrimp Alfredo

    shrimp alfredo using jar sauce

If you happen to have any leftover Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo, there are a number of different ways you can reheat without the pasta turning out overcooked or mushy. Here are three simple methods:

    USE BOILING WATER

If you choose this method to reheat your pasta, you will only want to do so with plain pasta without sauce.

To reheat using boiling water, fill a large pot with water and place over medium heat on the stove top. After the water comes to a boil, add the leftover pasta in a colander and lower it into the boiling water.

Allow the pasta to warm in the water for 30 to 60 seconds then carefully remove. Toss your cooked pasta with our favorite pasta sauce and youre good to go.

    REHEAT IN THE OVEN

Add your leftover shrimp alfredo pasta and sauce in an oven-safe baking dish and cover with foil. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees and place your dish with pasta in the oven. Reheat for 20 minutes or until your pasta has reached your desired temperature. If for any reason you feel your pasta has dried, be sure to add a little extra pasta sauce and/or olive oil and mix well.

Once your pasta is properly reheated, remove from oven and serve! Top with some parmesan cheese, too!

    REHEAT IN THE MICORWAVE

If for any reason you want to add more sauce, add a splash of water or chicken stock when heating.
