  • Keto Simple Syrup This is a very popular recipe on my site and I love using it for so many cocktails, but also in my BBQ sauce recipes. It removes the grainy texture from the sweetener and prevents it from recrystallizing and causing any separation in the sauce.
  • Allulose This is a go-to for me because it crystallizes and browns just like real sugar but is perfect for low carb recipes. I use it in my keto simple syrup recipe listed above.
  • Brown Sugar Substitute Several varieties but anything that is monk fruit based is preferred. They will mix well into the sauce as long as it is cooked and simmered over heat.

I wasnt sure that I would find it in the grocery store but it was easy. Just look for it where the other BBQ sauces are and you will find the liquid smoke.

My approach, that has been personally successful for me, is to eat foods that fit within my carb allowance regardless of what they are. Even still, most bbq sauces you can find at the store do not fit into a keto diet because of their high carb count due to all of the sugar.

Once again stir while thickening so that it doesnt stick or burn. After its thickened brush onto ribs or chicken and it forms a glaze while cooking, yummy!

How Do I Make Homemade Sugar Free Bbq Sauce

  • Its much easier than you think to make homemade BBQ sauce that is keto and paleo approved. Here are the steps for making my low carb BBQ sauce.
  • Start by adding 1 cup of your favorite sugar free ketchup to a medium size pot, you can always use my keto ketchup recipe, which is insanely tasty.
  • Add some brown sugar substitute to the pot along with water, tamari soy, Worcestershire sauce, dijon, vinegar, spices, and liquid smoke.
  • Cook everything on a low simmer for 45 minutes so the sauce can reduce and thicken. Blend on high for 30 seconds until smooth and creamy.
  • Low Carb BBQ sauce will last in the fridge for 3 weeks, and gets even tastier the second day.

    Which Type Of Sweetener Should I Use

    You need brown granular sweetener when making sugar-free bbq sauce. It melts easily and helps bring out a smokey/charred flavor in the BBQ sauce.
