Sweet Baby Ray’s Hot Sauce Review

Americas regions cultivate an evolving spectrum of sauces with smaller-but-emerging styles found throughout the 50 states. Some argue that Memphis and St. Louis represent an alternative style, similar to Kansas City but with a thinner more vinegary base. In North Carolina, scholars also contend that a third imported style riffing on thicker tomato-based sauces has taken hold in the northern regions of the state. And in Kentucky, mutton is sometimes dressed with black Worcestershire-based dip. Wherever its applied, sauce adds a signature that marks barbecue as one of the U.S.s great folk food traditions.

Sweet Baby Rays Launches New No Sugar Added Barbecue Sauce Line

Sweet Baby Rays recently released two flavors of Rays No Sugar Added barbecue sauce, Original and Hickory.

Rays No Sugar Added offers a signature sweet, smoky and tangy flavor profile while delivering 1g sugar and 1g net carbs per serving.

Weve landed on a No Sugar Added recipe thats gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, keto-friendly and actually worth eating, said Tom Murphy, VP of brand marketing for Sweet Baby Rays. While other low-sugar and sugar-free sauces deliver runny texture and synthetic flavors, the Rays recipe was forged in the grill pits of Sweet Baby Rays using naturally sweet U.S.-grown tomatoes. Its perfect for brushing on ribs, coating on chicken or dipping tenders.

The new barbecue sauces are sweetened with Allulose, which is a naturally occurring low-calorie sweetener. According to licensed nutritionist Danielle Shea Tan, CNS, MS, CHHC, Allulose has shown to have little-to-no effect on blood glucose or insulin levels.

The resulting sauce delivers outstanding flavor with only 15 calories and 1g net carbs per serving, Tan said.

Rays No Sugar Added is sold on shelves nationwide. For Rays No Sugar Added recipe suggestions, cooking tips and product locator, check out RaysNoSugarAdded.com.

Founded in Chicago, Illinois, Sweet Baby Rays celebrates its 35th year in 2020.

Sweet Baby Ray’s Got Its Start In A Barbecue Sauce Competition

Larry Raymond was a young Chicago restaurateur before he was a barbecue sauce inventor. He did, however, have a family recipe for sweet and tangy barbecue sauce that he tinkered with starting around 1982, according to the Chicago Tribune. He had properly adjusted the recipe enough by 1985 that he decided to enter it into a local barbecue competition called the Mike Royko Rib-off. Sweet Baby Ray’s company history notes that the competition was at the time the largest rib cook-off in the country.

Raymond landed in second place out of 700 contestants. A second place finish was more than enough. After all, the Rib-off had a reputation for crowning future barbecue stars. It was started by a popular Chicago columnist named Mike Royko, and in the first year of the competition in 1982, the winner out of 400 participants was Charlie Robinson. Robinson would go on to start a beloved barbecue chain of his own and sell a branded sauce within a year of winning, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

Raymond found similarly quick success after being in the Mike Royko Rib-off. Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce was incorporated by Larry, his brother Dave, and a childhood friend named Mike O’Brien a year after coming in second place.

    Hunters Sweet N Spicy Chili

My husband and I have argued for years which chili recipe is the best, his or mine. We have come up with a wonderful, scrumptious and amazingly tantalizing chili compromise! What is the secret? His favorite BBQ sauce and my original chili recipe made with a wonderful venison/ground beef mixture. Its HOT, its SWEET, and its oh, sooo yummy! Our eight children agree its the best. We serve it on the first day of buck season as our hunters arrive home, with a side of cornbread and a room filled with family! It doesnt get any sweeter than this a memory to savor for generations to come.

Well, because being able to make your favorite food products at home is awesome! There is power in knowing the ingredients and being able to make your own adjustments.

You can avoid ingredients that may not be good for you, like artificial colors and preservatives, and its also really helpful for people with food allergies or sensitivities. On top of all that, youll save money by making your own sauce!

    Is Kraft Bbq Sauce Gluten

Kraft does a great job of labeling allergens on their food products. In the case of BBQ sauce, most of the flavors contain no gluten-containing ingredients, however they dont have a gluten-free label.

Because they dont have a gluten-free label, they may come into contact with gluten in the manufacturing process.

Since recipes change all the time, be sure to check ingredients lists before purchasing. And only buy it if you can tolerate trace amounts of gluten from cross contamination.

Sweet Baby Ray’s Is The Best Selling Barbecue Sauce And Has Been For Years

Despite a general lack of consensus on the value of the company, today Sweet Baby Ray’s is one of, and at times the number one, selling barbecue sauce in the United States. In fact, it’s been ahead of grocery store barbecue sauce competitors like Kraft, KC Masterpiece, and Stubb’s for years.

The comparison site Statista put Sweet Baby Ray’s well above the competition in 2014 with its total sales at $151 million annually. Another Statista data set from 2017 that was published in 2020 found that Sweet Baby Ray’s “is the most popular barbecue sauce amongst U.S. consumers,” and that more than half of the barbecue sauce purchasers in the poll bought Sweet Baby Ray’s on a regular basis. Kraft Original and KC Masterpiece were tied for second, followed by Heinz barbecue sauce.

The Sweet Baby Ray dominance is no small feat, as sauce is truly big business. Statista expects retail barbecue sauce sales to bring in about $920 million in 2021.

The story of Sweet Baby Rays:

It all started in 1985, when Larry Raymond, a local Chicago boy and cook, perfected the family BBQ sauce recipe. With the sweet, spicy BBQ sauce he participated in the largest spare rib competition in the country, the Mike Royko Rib-off. He won the 1st prize out of 700 participants. That says enough. He named the sauce after the nickname his brother, David, once got when he played basketball on Chicago’s West Side – “Sweet Baby Ray.” The rest, as they say, is history. Now the Sweet Baby Rays range consists of many delicious flavors, but all true to the slogan: The sauce is the boss!
