Last Dab Apollo Review And Flavor

First off, The Last Dab Apollo takes a major departure from previous Last Dab sauces. This hot sauce is made up of 2 major ingredients, peppers, and vinegar. There are technically 4 ingredients, but 3 of them are derived from the Apollo pepper.

The result, a relatively flat flavor with explosive heat and not much else. This isnt necessarily bad, since some people use hot sauce to add heat to meals without changing the flavor. However, my recommendation to them would be to grow fresh peppers and use those instead much more rewarding.

The Last Dab Triple X History

As mentioned earlier, the Last Dab Triple X is the third iteration of The Last Dab, which made its debut in season four of Hot Ones, presented by First we Feast, which originally aired in 2017. It was developed with the help of Smokin Ed Currie and the Heatonist. The goal was to create the number 10 sauce for the show that was hotter than the rest but without the help of pepper extracts. One of the reasons the creators did not want to use extracts was to try and develop something with extremely high Scoville units, but that also tasted good.

It was the coming out party of Ed Curries new pepper at the time, Pepper X. The hot sauce was originally not available publicly on the market and only available to guests of Hot Ones.

The Last Dab featured in seasons four and five. It was then replaced by the Last Dab Reduxx for seasons six through nine, which was finally replaced by the Last Dab Triple X which made its debut in season 10.

The differences between each iteration of the Last Dab hot sauces are the varieties of Pepper X being used. The original only had Pepper X, Reduxx had Pepper X and Chocolate Pepper X, and Triple X uses Pepper X, Chocolate Pepper X, and Peach Pepper X. All editions have been described to have similar taste and heat profiles. Some say Reduxx was slightly hotter than the original and Triple X is almost identical to Reduxx. Unfortunately, we have not been able to purchase the first two editions of the Last Dab hot sauce to do our own taste comparisons.

More About The Apollo Pepper

Smokin Ed is constantly experimenting with new pepper crosses, so naturally, the Apollo pepper was born from this practice.

The Apollo pepper reportedly comes from cross breeding the Carolina Reaper and Pepper X pepper plants.

These are both intensely spicy varieties, though no one has really been able to taste the Pepper X in raw pepper form.

The name presumably comes from the Greek god Apollo, known as the god of sun and light. The sun is hot, the pepper is hot, voila. It could also have to do with the Apollo NASA missions. This sauce could secretly be rocket-powered, who knows.

Franks Redhot Sauce 450 Shus

Hot Ones Hot Sauce

Franks RedHot is a true classic, dating back to the early 1900s in Louisiana. It is also credited as a key ingredient in the original Buffalo wing sauce, created in Buffalo, NY.

Now, youll see Franks in supermarkets across the globe and on tabletops in your local chain restaurants. It is undoubtedly tasty, with a simple, aged cayenne pepper recipe that is timeless.

This hot sauce will serve as a baseline, coming in at just 450 SHUs on the Scoville scale. We all know and love Franks, so it is a great comparison for the ungodly heat in the later sauces

The Last Dab Scoville & Spiciness

The Last Dab has been touted as the hottest sauce that First We Feast has ever produced. Full of three all-new Pepper X varieties, from the original to Chocolate Pepper X and Peach Pepper X peppers. This means serious heat.

To put it simply, the Last Dab XXX has a Scoville rating of over 2,000,000 SHUs. This puts it on the same level as some of the spiciest peppers that are currently known.

Scoville ratings can be a bit subjective, given that Da Bomb is rated at 135,000 SHUs and tastes similarly hot. However, this is still a very, very hot sauce!

Smokin Ed Currie is who we have to thank for the intense, fiery heat of The Last Dab. His Pepper X pepper hybrid produces incredibly high capsaicin levels. It is expected that this new pepper variety will become the new worlds hottest pepper within the next year or so.

The sauce is not quite blended to a smooth consistency, so you know exactly what youre eating. You can feel the small bits of real peppers in every bite.

Tip: Start with just a dab! The sauce has its name for a reason

Cholula Hot Sauce 3600 Shus

Cholula is one of our favorite grocery store hot sauces for everyday use. The flavor is unlike anything else we have tried and the heat level is respectable. It is also affordable and has a rich history as part of a tequila chaser in Mexico.

The heat moves up a bit from Tabasco, meaning Cholula may be some peoples tipping point for heat. We like it hot, so this is nothing crazy for us PepperGeeks, but for a hot sauce you can pick up at Stop & Shop, Cholula has a decent bite.

Cholula brings a respectable heat at around 3,600 SHUs on the Scoville scale. For restaurant tabletop hot sauces, this is about as hot as youll see. However, were only just getting started with the limits of spice

How Hot Is The Classic Hot Sauce

The Classic is not spicy at all, with most people recommending it as a place for hot sauce newbies to start. This has a Scoville rating of around 1,800 Shus, which puts it at around the spice level of your average jalapeno.

However, it is worth bearing in mind that this hot sauce is made from fresh ingredients, so the heat levels will vary from bottle to bottle. This guaranteed freshness will also ensure that it packs plenty of flavors.

Everything You Need to Know About The Last Dab, the Hottest Sauce on Hot Ones

For sure. We have made this hot sauce with both Ghost Peppers and Carolina Reapers. It would work fine for most spicy peppers. So, if you want to use habaneros, they should be fine. Use your best judgment on the size and adjust accordingly. Some Jalapeno peppers are really big and three times the size of a Reaper or Habenero. Adjust accordingly.

The Last Dab Apollo Scoville Rating

Seeing as the Carolina Reaper and Pepper X peppers are the Apollo peppers parents, this sauce is ferociously spicy. However, the exact Scoville rating is still TBA. For now, well give our best guess based on previous Last Dab Scoville ratings and the Apollo peppers origin. Check back for updates here as we learn more from official sources.

Simply put, Last Dab Apollo likely has a Scoville rating of 2.5 million+ SHUs, though an official rating has yet to be announced. After tasting, I wouldnt be surprised by a Scoville rating in this territory. However, the Pepper Geeks both agreed that The Constrictor hot sauce, made of reapers, was hotter.

See where some other superhot sauces stack up on the Scoville scale.

Why Else Should You Make Your Own Hot Sauce

The second reason you should make your own hot sauce is freshness.

Bottled hot sauces are exposed to light for most of the day and can be on the shelves for weeks if not months, and who knows how long theyve been sitting in storage before that. Time and light exposure are the death of flavor.

When you make your own hot sauce, the loss of flavor and freshness to light and time is practically non-existent.

Fresh hot sauce tastes nothing like a bottled one, and once youve had it fresh, its really hard to want to go back .

The Last Dab Reduxx Hot Sauce Review Flavor Hour

Hot Ones Trinity

Bought a three pack of Hot Ones for my sons 16th so we could do our version of a Hot Ones tasting. He was so excited and loved the sauces. The Last Dab was insanely hot. Great experience overall quick delivery, eco-friendly packaging and nice service. Thank you!

Garlic heaven!

Loven every bit of this sauce and will without a doubt order more. I just wish there was a larger size bottle. HUNTER

Sooooo good on pasta, this sauce will never not be in my house. Going to need another bottle pretty soon because I was not prepared for how much my wife also loves it.

Absolutely delicious!

I enjoyed this hot sauce so much I went through the entire bottle in 5 days. I purchased 3 more. Not a crazy amount of spice but the flavour is incredible.

Classic and then some!

I ordered this sauce as the Classic was unavailable. I got hooked on the Classic when my roommate bought some, and I needed more. This version is somehow both the same great taste, but the garlic makes it different enough that it truly is its own sauce. And holy it is delicious! If youre not big on heat, this is perfect. The garlic definitely rounds out the edge of the Classic and both sauces are have a kick that wont knock you down.

This sauce has become of the standards in the household stock.

The Last Dab Triple X Review Ratings

Heat: 5/5 Extremely spicy without the chemical burn of pepper extract-based hot sauces.

Flavor: 3/5 Pleasant flavor, but this sauce is mostly about the heat.

Value: 4/5 A little goes a long way so it will last you a long time.

Versatility: 3/5 It is extremely hot so maybe not something you would use daily, but it does work well with a wide variety of foods.

Overall: 4/5 I really enjoyed this hot sauce, solid 4 out of 5. I do wish it were a little saltier, but as an extremely spicy hot sauce without the use of extract, its a great addition to your hot sauce collection.

How Long Will This Sauce Keep

It should keep a few months easily in the fridge, or even longer. Its all about the acidity. Target level ph for shelf stable foods is below 4.6 ph, but should probably be lower for home cooks, around 3.5 or so, to account for errors. If youre concerned, add more vinegar to lower the ph.

Dawsons Original Hot Sauce 82000 Shus

As things heat up, the brands become less well-known. However, Dawsons creates some of the most delectable hot sauces out there, and their Original sauce is among them. We find some of the best sauces are simple, and this one is no exception.

The distinction here is that this hot sauce uses habanero peppers as the first ingredient. If you know about habaneros, youll understand why this brings significantly more heat than the first few sauces on our list. Read our full review of Dawsons Original hot sauce here.

Dawsons takes a significant leap up on the Scoville scale. This hot sauce comes in around 82,000 SHUs on the scale, meaning it is significantly hotter than the stuff you can buy at the store. It also comes at a much higher price tag, but we think it is well worth the price for the premium ingredients and the beautiful design and appearance.

The Last Dab Apollo Hot Sauce – Hot Pepper Lift Off – Pepper Geek

Hot Ones, the hilarious and sometimes painful to watch show that pits Sean Evans against celebrity guests over a plate of wings that take a trip all the way up the Scoville scale, has partnered with Heatonist to release another new First We Feast presents Hot Oneshot sauce. If youve never seen the show, the final wing of the challenge always involves a last dab of sauce on the wing that serves as a badge of honor and final fuck you to your insides that always seems to bring out one last gem from the guest of the week. In light of that, The Last Dab sauce was made in partnership with Guinness record holding breeder Smokin Ed Currie and his latest creation, Pepper X, which according to information available clocks in at around a soul-crushing 3.3 million Scoville Heat Units. The only problem with the sauce is availability because bottles of The Last Dab sold out in under a minute. If you can find a bottle, its a roller coaster your taste buds will hate you for, but the sense of accomplishment is well worth it in our opinion.

Is The Last Dab Xxx Worth It

This sauce is another variation on an existing, delicious sauce recipe. The only changes have been in the types of peppers, grown to achieve new levels of heat. The flavor is very similar to that of The Last Dab Reduxx, with a similarly high level of usability.

If you like to turn it up to 11 with your hot sauces, then Last Dab XXX should be in your refrigerator. It costs a whopping $20 plus shipping, but these sauces still have a tendency to sell out. Grab a bottle while you still can and enjoy the burn.

Safety And The Carolina Reaper

Hot Ones Hot Sauce

First, this is not your average pepper. Have you ever chopped up a jalapeno and then accidentally rubbed your eyes? It is terrible. It is a whole different ballgame with this pepper and you dont want to play. Use gloves when handling this pepper. If you dont, you may regret it.

We also put this in your oven to broil for a short while and you need to be a bit careful with this, as well. The peppers are hot! When you heat them up, they give off fumes. Make sure you have some ventilation handy and be careful of having any kids or pets around.

Seriously, people. Use your common sense and have a bit of respect for this pepper.

Satans Blood 800000 Shus

And now weve enteredare you kidding me? territory. This is only loosely described as a hot sauce since the ingredients consist of pepper extract, an emulsifier, and vinegar. Satans Blood is not intended to be used to enhance the flavor of food. The only goal was to make food fiery hot.

I would have to say that they succeeded.

I think the reason I bought it was the sinister packaging, coming in a bottle that looks like an evil witchs poison vial.

Yes, I have tasted this substance. It was not pleasant. It was hardly even food. But it was probably the hottest, most concentrated spicy food Ive ever eaten. This is why I included an asterisk next to the Scoville rating

Though Satans Blood has been officially rated at 800,000 SHUs on the Scoville scale, the experience is much more intense than previously mentioned hot sauces. This is almost entirely made of pepper extract, a concentration of capsaicin in liquid form. No flavor, just heat.
