Can You Make Alfredo Sauce With Evaporated Milk

Creamy Garlic Alfredo Sauce Recipe with Milk – in 15 minutes

Yes, you can create delicious, creamy alfredo sauce with evaporated milk that rivals the alfredo sauce you would get at an Italian restaurant. However, its not as simple as swapping out heavy cream with evaporated milk in your favorite alfredo sauce recipe.

Many traditional alfredo sauce recipes contain almost 1/2 cup butter and heavy cream. The cream works as an emulsifier and mixes with the butter and cream. But evaporated milk doesnt have the same emulsifying qualities.

When I developed this sauce, I tried this mouthwatering recipe from The Salty Marshmallow and simply replaced the heavy cream with evaporated milk. While the original is absolutely delicious with cream, it didnt work with evaporated milk. The sauce split, and I ended up with a layer of melted butter sitting on top of the sauce.

For my alfredo sauce recipe with evaporated milk, I reduced the amount of butter drastically. I also added a tablespoon of cornstarch to thicken and hold the sauce together. I know this isnt the most authentic way to cook this sauce, but it tastes so good, and the texture is perfectly creamy too.

And by making it yourself you can season it to your own liking and it tastes so much better homemade.

Why You Need This Dairy Free Alfredo Sauce In Your Life

I think creamy pastas might be one of the first things you miss when you switch to a dairy free diet. Personally, the only thing I miss more is cheese itself.

For a while, we were making lactose free Alfredo sauce which is really just a creamy, garlic sauce using lactose-free milk. When we went fully dairy free, I just tried not to think about it, but, eventually, I found myself craving creamy, garlicky pasta.

I made a few different versions with store-bought vegan cream cheese. They were definitely good, but since I try really hard not to rely solely on those kinds of products, I didnt want to make it very often.

It wasnt until I started experimenting with cashew cream and my dairy free queso, that I realized the creamy base I was developing would work equally well as a pasta sauce. And, now I have a million different creamy pasta recipe ideas floating around in my head.

    How To Store Alfredo Sauce:

To make the perfect blend of Alfredo Sauce you will want to watch your cooking temperature and stirring well. This will make the perfect alfredo sauce and reheating just a breeze.

Alfredo Sauce is a favorite in our home and I know that it does not last long, even if I double it! Enjoy your sauce again and again when storing it properly.

    • Storing in the Refrigerator: I like to pour my Alfredo Sauce in a jar and sealed in the refrigerator. For best results and continued flavoring it will last in the fridge for about 5 days.
    • Freezing: Unfortunately this Alfredo Sauce does not freeze well. Because of the freshness of it, it will separate when freezing.
    • Reheating: Slowly, is the key! Slow, low temperatures and stirring often. If it starts to separate, slowly stir it back together over low heat on the stove top. It is best not to microwave this sauce. It becomes more oily and separates just as easily, if not more. Once reheated, do not reheat again.

Can You Use Milk Instead Of Heavy Cream For Alfredo Sauce

    Serge the Concierge

Using milk instead of heavy cream for this light Alfredo sauce is the main change. You need to add some flour to thicken it up, but its a significant reduction in fat and calories to make it with milk instead of cream. And the flavour is still fantastic.

Compared side by side, Im sure everyone would love this cream based Alfredo sauce more. But since youre likely not making them together, I am positive you will love this light Alfredo sauce when you try it.

In all honesty, I probably choose this light version over the real thing most of the time mostly because I always have milk, but not cream, sitting in the fridge. Also, its just healthier!
