Let the alfredo cool completely, then pour it into an airtight container. I like to use mason jars, because it is so easy to pour out the sauce when you are ready to use it. You can keep the alfredo in the fridge for up to 4 or 5 days.

I dont like to freeze any sauce with cream or milk, because it tends to separate when it thaws. But if you must, you can freeze it for up to two months.

If it seperates when it thaws, whisk it vigorously. If that doesnt work, you can use an immersion blender , to get it smooth again.

Homemade keto Alfredo sauce is so easy to make! Simply cook all the ingredients together in a saucepan until smooth. Then serve this easy low carb cream cheese sauce over zoodles or keto friendly fettuccine.

My husband loves growing squash each year in the garden. And this year, we had a nice crop of zucchini. He also planted spaghetti squash so I had a nice supply of vegetable noodles.

I made a low carb chocolate cake and zucchini bread for a couple summer potlucks. But I also wanted to make an easy dish with zucchini and spaghetti squash that I could enjoy for lunch.

It only took a little homemade low carb Alfredo sauce to turn the veggies into a meal. And for something a little heartier, I added in some deli chicken and ham.

In the past, Ive used this recipe to make a simple sauce while following an egg fast diet plan. However, I wanted to make a larger batch with heavy cream which is typically avoided while egg fasting.

A Creamy Garlic Alfredo Sauce Recipe

Easy Alfredo Sauce

I absolutely love garlic, so my keto Alfredo sauce recipe has lots and lots of garlic. If youre a garlic lover like me, youll love it. And, Im pretty sure that you cant have the best Alfredo sauce without plenty of garlic!

Have you ever heard that joke? The only recipe that uses one clove of garlic is how to prepare one clove of garlic. Even then, use two. I saw it on Facebook somewhere and have no idea who originally said it, but thats totally me!

So, my garlic Parmesan cream sauce has six cloves of garlic in it. Feel free to reduce the amount if youre not as much of a fan as I am.

What Is Alfredo Sauce

As a classic Italian sauce, you probably know alfredo best from the pasta dish fettuccini alfredo.

The sauce itself of this beloved dish is fairly simple, and just has four main ingredients. Most traditional alfredo recipes consist of the following:

  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 cup of whipping or heavy cream
  • A pinch of salt
  • Freshly ground pepper for taste
  • Half a cup of grated parmesan cheese, with more grated on top of the final product

From a nutrition perspective, most alfredo sauces are pretty calorie dense, but are generally a good source of fats and protein. The exact breakdown will of course vary from brand to brand and recipe to recipe, but heres generally what you can expect from a quarter cup serving:

  • 50 calories
  • 3.5 grams of fat
  • While of course on keto youll have to avoid fettuccini pasta , this sauce is pretty versatile.

Ive included my own alfredo sauce recipe below, as well as some non-pasta ways to utilize it at the end of this article.

    Can I Use Pre

This is the big debate in keto cooking. I always use pre-shredded cheese in anything I make because I hate shredding cheese.

For this recipe, I use pre-shredded parmesannot the powdered kind. That will not work. Pre-shredded parmesan will still result in a creamy sauce so dont worry with shredding your own!

Keto Chicken Alfredo With Broccoli Recipe

Ive always preferred marinara sauce over alfredo, but my kids love it and have been asking me to work on a new alfredo sauce recipe for a long time. Seasoning For Easy Alfredo Sauce

Traditional Alfredo sauce typically has nutmeg in it, but I kept it as an optional ingredient to keep it simple. I noticed some people were surprised by this when I shared the recipe with them, but its actually a very common component in Alfredo sauce recipes.

Lately Ive been making spices optional in recipes when I can, not because I dont use them liberally myself, but just to offer flexibility when possible. I do recommend the nutmeg for that familiar flavor in your keto Alfredo sauce. Even if youre not expecting it, it fits in amazingly well!

Speaking of flavor, you may want to add more salt and pepper at the end, to your taste. You probably need more than you think!

When adding salt, keep in mind that the low carb Alfredo sauce will be more concentrated when tasting it plain. It will mellow out when you mix it with other ingredients, especially lightly sweet veggies, like zucchini noodles. For this reason, I recommend adding a little more salt than you may think is needed.

    How To Make It

This recipe is about as easy as they come. Its great for a quick sauce on a busy weeknight.

Prep the cream and butter. Warm up your cream to room temperature in a small saucepan, in a microwave safe bowl, or allow it to sit on the counter. Once the cream is warmed, melt the butter in a small pot. Saute the garlic for about 1 minute or until it becomes fragrant. Next, pour in the warmed milk and bring the pot to a simmer.

Add the cheese. Mix in the Parmesan cheese and nutmeg. Stir the pot frequently as you allow it to cook for about 8 to 10 minutes. Once the sauce has started to thicken, add in the salt and pepper to taste. Serve the sauce hot over your favorite meats, veggies, or seafood or mix it into you favorite low carb or regular pasta.

Why Do You Warm the Heavy Cream?

Cold cream can separate if added to heat when cold. You should warm it gently either on the stove top over low heat, for a few seconds in the microwave, or allow it to come to room temperature on the counter top. Using room temperature cream will help prevent separation.

    How to Store Alfredo Sauce

Allow the sauce to cool completely. Once it has come to room temperature, pour or spoon into an airtight container. You can refrigerate the sauce for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 1 month.

Add the butter to a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the garlic for about 20 seconds.

Be careful not to brown it or it will become very bitter!

Then add in the parmesan cheese and simmer on low for about 5-7 minutes or until thickened to your liking.

    The History Of Alfredo Sauce

I love finding out how different foods were created. And alfredo sauce has a great history.

It was created in the 1920s in Rome, Italy, by restaurant-owner Alfredo di Lelio. And his hallmark dish, fettuccine Alfredo, became popular worldwide.

And the great thing is that you can still enjoy Italian food, including this creamy luscious alfredo sauce on a low carb, Ketogenic diet!

Weve even created this amazing dairy-free Keto alfredo recipe below so that you can enjoy your favorite comfort foods even on Keto.

How Can I Thicken Alfredo Sauce Without Flour

If you arent using flour or cornstarch, how can you thicken keto alfredo sauce? Cheese! Mascarpone, cream cheese, parmesan–these will all thicken it right up! Since we are using butter and heavy cream, the sauce is already much thicker without any of the extra additions.

Alternative low carb thickeners include coconut flour, xantham gum, or guar gum. Just be careful using these ingredients to thicken sauces! While they are all low in carbs, a little goes a long way. Adding too much coconut flour will dry things out and result in a clumpy texture, while the gums can become rubbery and sticky in excess. Little by little is the name of the game with these types of ingredients.
