What Is In Alfredo Sauce

Sun-Dried Tomato Alfredo | Fettuccini Alfredo Pasta Recipe | The Carefree Kitchen
  • Cream- Heavy whipping cream works great for this. You can also sub half and half, it just may not be as rich and creamy.
  • Chicken Broth- Use your favorite.
  • Sun-Dried Tomatoes- You can use dehydrated sun-dried tomatoes or sun-dried tomatoes packed in olive oil. Either will work great. We like to blend the tomatoes but you can slice them into small chunks or whatever your family likes.
  • Parmesan Cheese- Shredded parmesan or grated parmesan works great.
  • Garlic Salt- The perfect blend to flavor your alfredo sauce. No need for minced garlic. Use garlic powder and a little salt in place of garlic salt.
  • Nutmeg- Just a pinch will do. It adds tons of depth and flavor.
  • Pepper- just a pinch here too.

How Do I Make Alfredo Sauce More Flavor

You can enhance the jarred Alfredo sauces flavor thats already delicious by adding more fresh garlic or garlic powder. Or you can change this creamy white sauce up a bit with ingredients that arent on the list on the back of the jar.

Oil Packed Vs Dry Sundried Tomatoes

Sun-dried tomatoes are always in my pantry these days. For this recipe, I use dry sun dried tomatoes–not the kind packed in oil. I buy them from Whole Foods or Trader Joes, and they are great in cream sauces like this because of how much flavor they add to a dish.

Youll find sun dried tomatoes two ways in the supermarket–dry or packed in oil. Both are great, however for WW purposes, I use dry since they are zero points. The oil packed ones are unbelievably delicious because, well, oil.

Dry packed sun dried tomatoes need to be rehydrated. They are chewy like dried fruit, but unlike dried fruit, they are zero points. Cooking them in the cashew milk rehydrates them while infusing the cashew milk with the bright, tomato flavor.

You can use the oil in a marinade or salad dressing, but my favorite way to use them is to add both tomatoes and oil to fresh pasta with a little bit of cheese. The tomatoes packed in oil are preserved differently so they are good to go right away, and can be easily added to salads, pastas, etc.

    Some Ingredients Youll Need

    Sun
    • Look for jarred sun-dried tomatoes pack in oil. Go ahead and puree the whole jar in the blender, youll only use 1/4 cup of the puree for this recipe, so save the rest of it in the fridge. Spread it on sandwiches, whisk it into salad dressings, or stir it into your next batch of spaghetti sauce.
    • Butter and cream.
    • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
    • Bucatini pasta works so well with this alfredo, but other long pasta will work fine, too.

Thats it! A 5-ingredient dinner idea to help start your week off right because we all need a creamy, cheesy pan of pasta every once in a while, right?

Cmon, you know you want a bite.

    • Heat a large saucepan over high heat until very hot. Add just enough cold water to cover the bottom of the pan. Let the water evaporate but make sure there are a few drops left in the pan. This will keep the cream from scorching and burning on the bottom of the pan. Remove the pan from the heat.
    • Add the cream to the pan and return it to the heat. When the cream comes to a boil, reduce heat to medium/ medium high and continue to boil until it is reduced by half. During that time, add the garlic.
    • In the meantime, cook pasta in well salted water according to package directions. Drain well when cooked.
    • When the cream is reduced remove it from the heat. Add butter 1 tablespoon at a time and whisk it in. The cream should thicken and turn glossy. Add the cheese and hot pasta to the cream. Season with salt and pepper and garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Serve immediately .

Pasta with Sundried Tomato Alfredo Sauce — The Frugal Chef

All you need is about 20 minutes and 10 ingredients to make this dish.

Start off by prepping your pasta just plop the pasta in a pot of boiling, salted water and let the water do its thing. Chickapea pasta cooks in under 10 minutes so you wont need to wait long. Once the pasta is cooked to your preference just drain away the water and set aside momentarily while you prep the sauce.

The base of this sauce is made from sautéing garlic in olive oil and mixing in a little bit of flour to form a roux. This is what gives this Alfredo its creamy, luscious texture instead of using full fat dairy. A couple things to note about this roux/sauce base:

  • Chickapea pasta is naturally grain free since its made up of just two ingredients: chickpeas and lentils! If youd like to keep this dish grain free use arrowroot starch. If youre not concerned about adding a little extra grain you can also use any old gluten free all purpose blend here. You only need a couple of tablespoons here so its not much at all.
  • Since were going for summery vibes here were adding chopped up sun dried tomato to this roux!
  • Once youve mixed all of that up you should have a thick, pasty, golden kind of mixture. At this point you just need to add the almond milk make sure its unsweetened and plain and let that simmer and thicken up a bit for a minute or two before stirring in the tomato paste and vegan parmesan to combine.

How Do You Season A Jar Of Alfredo Sauce

Season the Sauce The first step most people take is to add salt and pepper. You can keep it basic, or even mix up these seasonings by adding freshly cracked pepper or peppercorns instead of basic black pepper from a jar. Or, change the variety of pepper that you use by swapping white pepper for ordinary black pepper.

    • Fridge- This recipe freezes really well. You can put it in a jar or covered container in the fridge and it will last for about 5 days.
    • Freezer- Unfortunately this doesn’t freeze very well. Because it is made with fresh ingredients, it doesn’t thaw and re-heat very well.
    • Re-Heat- You can place the alfredo sauce to a saucepan, add a little milk or chicken broth to thin it out and heat it slowly. Be sure to stir constantly so the cheese has a chance to melt without scorching.
