Richs Easy, Classic Gluten-Free BBQ Sauce Recipe | gf explorers

If you make your own BBQ sauce at home, its easy to make it using only gluten-free ingredients. Using your own ingredients, you have full control over the quality and amount of ingredients and can make sure there is no potential for gluten.

If you buy store-bought BBQ sauce, you will find that some brands are gluten-free, while others arent. Youre likely to find gluten in thickeners or coloring that are added to the barbecue sauce that contain gluten. You might also find beer or soy sauce in some brands, which can contain gluten, as well.

Its important to review the ingredients list before buying and look for any hidden names of gluten on the package.

One of my little secrets is that I carry around a copy of my GFDF Take Along Cards so that I always have a point of reference when I can sneak a peek at the ingredient list of a food.

Gluten Free Barbecue Sauce Recipe

The men in my family are ridiculously competitive, even about things they dont need to be, like barbecuing. Honestly, I do not know where they get it from!

Truth be told they all know their way around a grill and are grill-masters in their own right. They can all cook meat over fire very proficiently. And me, being smart, let them swelter over hot coals and take advantage of their competitiveness as the results are always fabulous.

But the difference between us and primitive man, who also cooked meat over fire, is barbecue sauce. And if I am going to be completely honest I have to say, I make the best gluten free barbecue sauce!

I also have my own way of making barbecue chicken. Chicken over the grill can be tricky no matter how great a grill-master you are. The meat can easily become over-cooked and dry or the sauce can burn. Thats why I bake my barbecue chicken first, letting it remain moist and succulent, then I turn it over to one of the men for a minute or two on the grill. Sure they take all the credit, but thats OK with me. We all know deep down inside that my barbecue chicken is the best.

Unlike most commercial barbecue sauces this one is almost completely free of high fructose corn syrup. There is a bit in the Worcestershire sauce so if you are avoiding HFCS completely just substitute with gluten free soy sauce.

With all the wholesome ingredients in this sauce, you can feel as good about serving it as I do.

How To Make A Sweet Bbq Sauce Recipe

BBQ sauce is a delicate balance of flavors, so it can be tricky to make it your own. In the case of sweeteners, theres a few classic ones you can stick to until you get brave enough to venture out on your own and make your own favorite sweet bbq sauce recipe.

  • Brown Sugar. This forms the base sweetness for a lot of BBQ sauces, and for good reason. It has the sugar intensity youre looking for, while also bringing some of the great molasses quality. In my opinion, the darker the better. But if you only have light brown sugar in your cabinet, thats ok, too.
  • Molasses. While were on the subject of molasses flavors, you can also jump right in and add it straight to your BBQ sauce. Keep in mind though that this will be strong flavor. So youre going to have to balance the savory carefully.
  • Honey. This is what were using today, because it adds a really distinct honey flavor in addition to sweetness. Personally, I think it helps balance out the whole thing, and its natural!
  • Those are the three big ones, in my opinion. If you have another, Id love to hear about it! Tell me all about your sweet bbq sauce recipe. I might just feature it on the blog!

I think tofu is criminally underrated outside of Asia, particularly among non-vegetarians. I think part of the reason is that people often associate it being wet and in soups. When its done right though it can serve as the perfect meat substitute, both in content and in feel.

This recipe takes grilled tofu and serves it on a bed of traditional noodles and vegetables.

Barbecuing is a simple cooking that leaves you plenty of time to enjoy a glass of wine and talk to your guests. However, just because its not an involved process does not have to mean plain flavours. In fact, there is a lot you can do to pack flavour into whatever it is you are going to put on the barbecue.

There are all kinds of marinades, rubs and spice mixes. For example, have a look at my jerk spice recipe which I regularly use on BBQ meats and seafood. Another flavour enhancer for your barbecue dishes is sauces. One of the most popular sauces in the world is the barbecue sauce. Many of us probably have one in the fridge or in the pantry, but have you actually made one yourself? As a matter of fact, it is surprisingly easy, as you will see here in my recipe for a gluten free barbecue sauce.
