How To Make Homemade Meatballs:

Sweet and Tangy Meatball Appetizer – Farm Rich
  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, onion, milk, Worcestershire, and egg. Then add the salt and pepper. A big wooden spoon or spatula does the trick, but you can use your hands, too.
  • Then roll the meatballs by hand into 1-inch balls. The goal is to make them bite-sized, but they will shrink a little when they cook.
  • You need to cook the meatballs before adding them to the crockpot. You can do this by pan frying them or baking them in the oven.
  • To fry the meatballs, heat some vegetable shortening in a large shallow skillet over medium-high heat.

Fry the meatballs in batches, being careful not to crowd them. This should take about 5 to 7 minutes per batch they should be browned on all sides. Double check their internal temperature before removing them from the pan they should be 155 degrees on the inside when a food thermometer is inserted inside the meatball.

Baking meatballs is easy and requires less stove time. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

First, line a rimmed baking sheet with foil or parchment. Set a baking rack over the sheet pan and arrange the meatballs on the rack.

Bake the meatballs until theyre browned and have crispy edgesabout 20 minutes. Use a thermometer to double check their internal temperature before removing them from the pan the thermometer should read 155 degrees for 15 seconds.

    The All Important Sauce:

The two ingredients for this genius meatball sauce are super easy to find in most grocery stores.

    • Chili sauce. Heinz chili sauce is what you want for this recipe. Its not spicy, and in fact theres not much difference between ketchup and chili sauce. You can also use sweet chili sauce, in a pinch. If you dont have it or cant find chili sauce, use ketchup with a little chili powder, or use your favorite tomato-based barbecue sauce for meatballs.
    • Grape jelly. Smuckers, Welchs, or generic jam or jelly is ideal. If youre in a country where grape jelly isnt readily available, look for some kind of fruit jam that has a smooth consistency that will melt down and sweeten the meatballs.

Slow Cooker Meatballs With Grape Jelly And Chili Sauce Faqs

Can I use other flavors of jelly?

Sure. Grape jelly is definitely the most popular with these, and is my favorite to use, but feel free to experiment with other fruit flavors. Raspberry or strawberry would be two good options to try! One of the favorites that I just tried was blackberry.

What kind of chili sauce should I use?

You can use whatever kind is available to you, but my favorite is Heinz chili sauce.

How do I know when the meatballs are done?

When these meatballs are done, youll see the chili and jelly sauce bubbling, and youll easily be able to stick a toothpick into a meatball.

How To Make Crockpot Meatballs With Grape Jelly:

    • Once you browned all the meatballs you made, add them to the crockpot with a jar of chili sauce and a jar of grape jelly. Give everything a gentle stir. If youre using frozen meatballs, just add the frozen meatballs directly to the crockpot. There is no need to thaw them out beforehand. Thats it!
    • Cover the crockpot and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours, or HIGH for 2 to 3 hours. The sauce should be hot.

      Slow Cooker Meatball Variations:

      • Cranberry sauce. Some meatball devotées use canned cranberry sauce in their party meatballs. It ups the tangy factor a little and tastes just as good.
      • Grape jelly and BBQ sauce. Barbecue sauce is a great substitute for chili sauce. Instead of chili sauce, your favorite tomato based barbecue sauce gives a little extra smoky taste to every bite.
      • Meatballs with grape jelly and mustard. Basic yellow mustard and grape jelly, what some people use as baked ham sauce, is pretty wonderful on crockpot meatballs.
      • Swedish meatballs. The Best Swedish Meatballs recipe is right here, creamy sauce and all.
      • Other fruit jelly for meatballs. Some cooks like using apple jelly or even elderberry jelly as a grape jelly substitute. Thats fine! They will be delicious with either.

We absolutely LOVE sriracha around here. Dont be scared of the heat its not going to burn you up like adding hot sauce, but rather its just the kick that this salty/sweet meatball recipe needs!

However, if you are a bit scared of adding some heat, you can leave it out or cut back on the Sriracha.

But if youre ready to rock n roll with it, add 1/4 cup of Sriracha to the bbq sauce, jelly and meatballs.

While these meatballs are most commonly used as a party appetizer, they can also be served as an entree! My family thinks that its a special treat when we have these for dinner. I pair mine with baked potatoes or Scalloped Potatoes.

If youre looking for another appetizer to pair these with, theyre delicious when paired with a cheese tray. Because these are so filling, you could also just pair them with a veggie or fruit tray.

These pair well with almost any drink that you can imagine! One of my favorites with these meatballs is a Watermelon Lemonade. The flavor of the meatballs is so strong that I like something thats not too sweet.

Basic Three Ingredient Bbq Sauce Recipe

Today I share the tried-and-true basic sauce recipe. However, there are so many variations that folks have come up with. You can use this recipe just as written, or you can do a few simple upgrades and personalize this sauce to your liking.

This barbecue sauce is so easy made from just three ingredients.

Two types of BBQ sauce and Grape jelly. That is all it takes.

Depending on how I am using this sauce, I whisk the ingredients together and use it cold as a brush on grilling or baked sauce. If I am going to serve this as a dipping sauce, then I will cook it just until the grape jelly has melted and combined with the BBQ sauces.

I will give you a few recipe variations to get you started.

If you like more spice and heat in your sauce, try adding these ingredients.

Farm Rich Meatballs. So Yummy Good, Yummy Rich, Try It, I Did

This post is done in partnership with Farm Rich. All comments and opinions are 100% my own.

For me, the holidays are about one thing- getting together with the people I hold dear and stuffing our faces together. Yes, yes, peace on earth, and the spirit of giving and all of that. But all of that is just enhanced through a good holiday party appetizer which is also a perfect meal when watching sports and betting on sites like 12Bet.

There are a few standbys for a good appetizer recipe- Hawaiian buns for sliders, crescent rolls for wrapping pretty much anything and meatballs- likely simmered in any number of tantalizing sauces. I dont know about you, but meatballs are always a hit at the get togethers that I go to. Serve them with some festive toothpicks, and they instantly get just a little bit fancier. Im also a huge believer that things always taste better on a toothpick.

Im partnering with Farm Rich on this post, because if anyone has the appetize part of appetizer down, its them. They have built an empire around their unbelievable snack offerings, which has now trickled out into sauced meatballs and bakery items .

Ive been a huge proponent of Farm Rich products ever since we got our air fryer for Christmas two years ago. At the time, I was pregnant, and, well you can see what happened.

Safe to say, Im a fan.

If you have ever had slow cooker meatballs at a party in the Midwest, my guess is that they were coated with this grape jelly barbecue sauce. They seem to have become the standard appetizer for backyard parties and gameday gatherings.

Part of what makes this taste so good is the combination of the grape jelly with the BBQ sauce. The grape jelly brings a robust sweet undertone. Depending on your BBQ sauce preference, it can bring added heat and tomato flavor, or a rich and briny profile to the party.

These Sweet And Spicy Crockpot Meatballs Are The Perfect Appetizer To Bring In The New Year

I hope you had a nice and amazing Christmas! I sure did. It was pretty awesome having this Christmas holiday to share with my new baby and my husband. We visited our families on Christmas Eve and spent Christmas Day lounging around in our PJs and watching the many football and basketball games. Although it was a nice holiday to chill-lax later on that evening, we started to wonder what in the world will we do on New Years Eve with a newborn baby?! Quickly after we asked the question we immediately knew the answernot a thang! Not much you can do with a newborn baby especially when you know the availability of babysitters that day is slim to none and most of your family has plans already. So we decided to have a small New Years party, on a limited budget, for ourselves and anyone else who would like to visit.

I know we are not the only ones in this position. The position I am referring to is partying on a budget! Not everyone can attend or have a big fancy New Years party. Therefore, you have to make due with what you have and make things as easy as possible. That is where your crockpot and Farm Richs Meatballs will come into play.
