As winter is fast approaching my craving for comfort food and carbs is increasing! Pasta is starting to sound really good and my good friend Tynan at Costco West messaged me to tell me he had found a new delicious sauce at Costco so today Im reviewing the Costco Raos Homemade Marinara sauce! Ive heard people raving about this sauce and its finally available at Costco in Canada so yay for that!

Homemade Rao Marinara Sauce

To make your own Rao Marinara sauce you will need:

  • Four 28-ounce cans of whole tomatoes with basil, preferably from San Marzano
  • 1/2 cup of olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
  • Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 12 fresh basil leaves, torn
  • Pinch of dried oregano

Steps to follow:

  • Remove tomatoes from the can and place in a large bowl, reserving juices. Crush the tomatoes with your hands remove and discard the hardcore from the end of the stem, and any resistant layers and membranes set aside.
  • Place the oil in a large, non-reactive saucepan over medium-low heat. Add onion and cook until soft and just starting to brown about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook until soft, about 30 seconds. Add tomatoes and reserved juices season with salt. Increase the heat and bring to a boil. Immediately reduce heat to low and simmer until slightly thickened, about 1 hour.
  • Add the basil, if using, the oregano, and season with pepper continue cooking 1 minute more. Remove from the fire and serve.

    The second method to reheat your Raos is on the stovetop. This way the sauce is heated more slowly and gives you the ability to stir as you go.

    To reheat on the stove, put the leftover sauce into a skillet or saucepan and place it over medium heat.

    Every few minutes, stir the sauce. Continue to stir and heat until its heated through and to your personal temperature preference.

    Remove from the heat and serve!

    How To Make Worlds Best Spaghetti Raos Homemade Marinara Step By Step

    1. Start by heating a pot of water for your pasta.

    2. In the meantime, finely chop an onion and 4 cloves of garlic.3. Heat a pot on medium heat and add extra virgin olive oil and crushed red pepper flakes. Use 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil, I used 2 tbsp and didnt realize how oily Raos sauce is, you dont need all the extra oil.4. Once the pepper flakes sizzle for about 10 seconds, add the onion and garlic. Saute until golden, about 5 minutes.

    5. Heres the Raos sauce I used. YUM!

    6. Back to the onion this is what you should have.7. Add the Raos sauce.

    8. Season with 1/2 tsp of black pepper and salt to taste. Stir.9. Cover with a lid for about 10 minutes.

    10. In the meantime, check on the water. Follow the directions on the package and add the spaghetti. Cook until al dente.
