Stephen Colbert traveled to the seventh circle of Hell on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, all thanks to Sean Evans. Evans hosts a show called Hot Ones, in which he interviews celebrities while feeding them progressively hotter food.
Colbert seemed to enjoy the first two hot sauces he sampled while talking with Evans. But the third hot sauce, Da Bomb Beyond Insanity, took things from civil to extreme.
Colbert joked, So this is what Kim Jong Un is arming his missiles with actually? But after sampling some of the sauce, he realized it was no laughing matter.
But Colbert wasnt done yet he still had to sample Blairs Mega Death Sauce with Liquid Rage. This particular sauce scores 550,000 on the Scoville scale, which rates the heat of peppers. I first bought After Death a few weeks ago, and I’ve been gradually trying to get them all. I’ve really been impressed with the quality and flavor of everything I’ve tried from Blair’s, and I’m glad that this series is as famous as it is.

After Death: The spiciest sauce I currently own, at 50k scoville units. I’ve had spicier sauces, but this one is special because as soon as you cool off, you’ll want to hit it again because the flavor is so good.

Jalapeno Death: This is their second mildest sauce, and it’s not terribly spicy, but its one of the most delicious sauces I’ve ever had. The tomatillos, lime, and garlic are strong in this one, but the flavor is much brighter than a salsa verde. I’ve been introducing this sauce to everyone I know, and they all love it, even the non-chileheads. I’d love to pour out the bottle into a slow cooker over a pork roast someday. This should come in 16 oz bottles.

Golden Death: I bought this one because of the Indian-style ingredients, and I cook a lot of curries. In practice, I still cook my curries with real peppers or sri racha. It’s my least favorite of the three, but it’s still a very good sauce. It’s Blair’s newest sauce, and it does deserve some credit for bringing up a new unique flavor that’s quite different from my other sauces.
I plan on purchasing Pure Death and Original next, once I finish a current bottle.

The Challenge:
As a preface, I have always enjoyed spicy food. I grow my own peppers in my small apartment and enjoy using them in my recipes and making spicy sauces with them. However, I must admit I was a bit apprehensive when I was invited to join several friends in a hot sauce wing tasting following the format of the popular interview show, Hot Ones. For those that do not know, Hot Ones is an internet show that features host Shawn Evans interviewing celebrities while eating increasingly hot chicken wings, ramping up to some of the hottest sauces available currently on the market. Having watched several episodes, I knew what I would be in for should I choose to accept, and against my better judgment I chose to do so.
The night would proceed as closely as possible to the show. Ten chicken wings would be consumed over the course of the event, each with a heightening degree of spiciness. The first sauce would be my personal favorite, humble sriracha sauce. The 10th wing would be slathered in the juggernaut Blairs Mega Death Sauce, which came in a box shaped like a coffin and included a free keychain for the poor mortal who purchased it to display on their key ring for when their charred remains were eventually recovered.
