How To Make Gluten Free Spaghetti Sauce:

  • For the sauce: In a large saucepan cook onion and garlic until the onion is translucent.
  • Add the un-drained tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, broth, basil, oregano, salt and pepper and stir until combined.
  • Bring the sauce to a boil then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 -10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve over your favorite pasta.
  • These numbered steps match the numbered photos above and are for illustration purposes only. Please see the printable recipe card below.

As I mentioned above, you can add ground beef, ground turkey, or additional veggies. Simply cook the beef, turkey or veggies when you cook the onions and garlic.

How To Make The Creamiest Dairy Free Alfredo Sauce

If you dont already have some in your fridge, youll need to make cashew cream. Boil 1 cup of raw cashews in water for 5 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool in water. Drain.

Blend in a food processor or high-speed blender with 1 cup nut milk until smooth, scraping sides as needed. You can make this up to 10 days in advance, and we almost always keep some in our fridge, so I havent included this prep time in the recipe calculations.

If you havent tried making your own cashew cream, you are seriously missing out.

Make an olive oil roux. I use a non-stick skillet, but you could use a saucepan or a stainless skillet, just be sure to use a silicone whisk on your non-stick. Heat your skillet to medium, and add olive oil.

Once its hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds it should smell amazing at this point. Add your flour and whisk until all of the olive oil in your pan has been absorbed by the flour.

Whisk in your liquids, one at a time. I start with the thinnest liquid and work my way up to the thickest. You dont have to, but I find that it lets me whisk a little less.

You can add the nutritional yeast and salt & pepper when you add the cashew cream. Keep whisking until everything is nice and smooth. You can also add a pinch of nutmeg if thats a flavor you like in Alfredo sauce. Its totally up to you, but we normally leave it out.

If youre using nut milk, youll definitely want to simmer it a little longer than if youre using cashew cream.

Use DOUBLE the amount of water

Use double the amount youd use for normal gluten free pasta. It makes the pasta less sticky/gloopy if you know what I mean?! I believe this works because gf pasta is starchier

Only add the pasta to the water once its *properly* boiling.

Its easy to get impatient and put it in when the water has jussttt started to simmer. Dont!!!! haha

    Do the wiggle!!

As soon as your pasta is in the boiling water, reduce to a simmer and move the pasta around with a fork. Repeat this every couple of minutes to prevent it from sticking. Gluten free pasta is a clingy so-and-so.

    Dont overcook it.

Over-cooked gluten free pasta tastes way worse than over-cooked normal pasta. Dont test it by the time on the packet eat it!

Add a little of your pasta water to the sauce.

Literally take 2-3 tbsp of the water your pasta has cooked in and add it to your sauce sounds weird, tastes delicious!

    • Dashofoilsunflower oil/frylight/whatever you normally use!

Troubleshooting: Why Is My Pasta Mushy

If you have been eating gluten free for a while, you probably understand. Remember the days when every gluten free pasta option was made from corn, and it melted in the pan? Haha, yep!

A common mistake that many people make is to over cook pasta. This especially applies when cooking gluten free pasta. The key is to cook it to al dente.

This means, cook it a couple of minutes less than what the directions on the box call for.

So, if the instructions say to cook the pasta for 10 minutes, stop cooking it after 8 minutes.

The great news is, our bodies absorb and digest al dente pasta more slowly. So, it doesnt just taste better, but its also healthier for you to eat it that way!

    I LOVE Garofalo.

Nothing compares if you ask me. It cooks perfect, theres never any stickiness and I love their range of shapes. Available in Waitrose, Ocado or on . Its not cheap but I really think the price makes a massive difference when it comes to gluten free pasta.

Garofalo pasta is formed through a metal forming die which gives the pasta a rough surface that allows the sauce to stick- theyre one of few manufacturers that use this method for gluten free and I really think you can tell.

Its also created in a separate factory from their regular pasta so we havent got to worry about cross contamination!

AND ITS GOOD COLD I know, doesnt sound believable with gluten free pasta, right?!

Why You Need This Dairy Free Alfredo Sauce In Your Life

I think creamy pastas might be one of the first things you miss when you switch to a dairy free diet. Personally, the only thing I miss more is cheese itself.

For a while, we were making lactose free Alfredo sauce which is really just a creamy, garlic sauce using lactose-free milk. When we went fully dairy free, I just tried not to think about it, but, eventually, I found myself craving creamy, garlicky pasta.

I made a few different versions with store-bought vegan cream cheese. They were definitely good, but since I try really hard not to rely solely on those kinds of products, I didnt want to make it very often.

It wasnt until I started experimenting with cashew cream and my dairy free queso, that I realized the creamy base I was developing would work equally well as a pasta sauce. And, now I have a million different creamy pasta recipe ideas floating around in my head.

Gluten Free / Dairy Free NJ: Tomato Free Pasta Sauce ...

Our sausage pasta bake is the perfect weeknight or weekend dinner that fills you up, is low in calories and of course vegan and gluten-free.

If you want to make this beforehand, then I would suggest popping it in the fridge before the baking stage and then when you are ready to eat, bake then as directed.

This will keep for 2-3 days in the fridge.

For the vegan cheese, I like to use Sheese Mozzarella, it melts really well on top of the pasta bake to get that cheese pull that we all love. Its a cheese that also works really well on garlic bread or pizza.

    • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius.
    • Cook the vegan sausages according to pack instructions.
    • Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan on medium heat. Saute the onions for a couple of minutes then add the garlic and pepper. Cook for 10 minutes or so until the peppers and onions are soft.
    • Add tomatoes, chilli flakes, Italian herbs, nutritional yeast, balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and leave for 10-15 minutes until it has thickened slightly.
    • Cook pasta in a pan of boiling water until al dente.
    • Chop the sausages into small chunks and add to the sauce.
    • Drain the pasta water and add the cooked pasta to the sauce.
    • Mix together and add to a large oven-safe casserole dish. Add vegan mozzarella on top and place in the oven for 20 minutes.
    • Remove from the oven, serve with garlic bread and enjoy!

    Creamy Vegan Vodka Sauce Ingredients

I took my time testing this recipe and played around with the ingredients to make sure I got the most delicious and authentic tasting vodka sauce. The first time I tested it the recipe was good, but I knew I could make it taste better. So I went back to the drawing board and after a few more tries landed on this combination of healthy ingredients.

    Ingredient Substitutions And Additions

Don’t like Cashews? – While cashews work the best if you don’t love them, I have had luck subbing in raw slivered almonds into this sauce. I would just make sure to soak them a bit longer.

Nutritional Yeast – I’m not a fan personally, but if you are, you can add it to this sauce for some extra “cheesy” flavor. If you add it, I would stick with about ¼-1/3 of a cup.

Add Vegetables – I am a huge fan of adding things like sauteed mushrooms, spinach, kale, and even broccoli to alfredo. Feel free to add what you like.

Want more spice? Add in a bit of your favorite Italian seasoning for a bit more flare. You can even add a bit of cajun spice to make turn this into a cajun alfredo.
