Hank Sauce Sea Isle City

Got to Sea Isle for the Memorial Day weekend and decided on delivery due to the rain. This was a great choice, glad they opened that weekend. Caesar salad was excellent and the pulled pork sandwich was very good. Would definitely go back.

A winter family visit to Sea Isle and take out for dinner. Easy to order and Covid sensitive service plus excellent food. We enjoyed everything. Definitely a place to frequent

My husband and I ordered from Hanks, during the COVID pandemic we were glad to see how busy they were….it took a while to get thru on the phone…once we placed our order it was ready in a short amount of time. We shared the…guacamole and chips which were delicious! My husband had the Hank Burger and said it was amazing..I had the shrimp pinchos which I believe are no longer on the menu…unfortunately having been to Spain I compared them to what I had in Spain. The presentation was a bit under-whelming and the portion size was a bit small, but they were tasty..We would definitely return and try something else…More

Best food for the money on the island. Whatever you order, whether it’s soup, regular menu items or specials guaranteed to be outstanding.

Growthcurve Episode : Hank Sauce

The Secret Recipe to Branding

An interview with Josh Jaspon and Matt Pittaluga, founders of Hank Sauce, a hot sauce company that is building its brand one customer at a time.

GrowthCurve Episode 18: Hank Sauce

Nearly ten years ago, Matt Pittaluga was assigned a project in his graphic design class at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida to create packaging for a product. Inspired by his roommate Brian Hank Ruxtons homemade hot sauce, he designed what is now the signature fish logo of Hank Sauce. Based on the positive feedback of both the design and sauce, Josh Jaspon entered into the mix and saw an opportunity to capitalize on the sauce for anything that needs something.

This is a story about three college roommates that used their unique skill sets to start a business in the $1.8 billion hot sauce industry. The founding team is compiled of a chef, graphic designer and businessman, in which the three friends play to their strengths to create a brand that truly resonates with consumers. Hank Sauce has a dominant presence in the New Jersey shore towns, but it is these summer vacationers that drive their business nationwide by ordering cases of their hot sauce all year long back in their hometowns. The company has built a brand that is more than a cool name and logo. It is their intimate relationship with their customers that allows Hank Sauce to grow nationally.

A trio of local boys take Hank Sauce in Sea Isle to the top

Like their neighboring island communities to the north and south, Sea Isle City has a rich history that laid the foundation for what the town is today. The original name of the island came after Joseph Ludlam purchased the land from a group of Quakers called the West Jersey Proprietors who were granted permission to settle the region by the Duke of York in the 1600s. Ludlam Island was originally an area used for Joseph Ludlam’s cattle and sheep to roam freely while mainlanders were allowed to come to the island for fishing and hunting with the Ludlam Family’s permission.

In 1880, the island was purchased by the founder of Sea Isle City, Charles Landis, who wanted to create a seaside resort town modeled after what he experienced in Venice, Italy. The Landis Family had the waterways and canals around the island modeled after Venice with the goal of creating a seaside resort to attract visitors, fishermen, and year-round residents. Thanks in part to the multiple railroad lines coming onto the island from the west and north, Sea Isle City has been the home to hundreds of local residents since the late 1800s.

    Hot Stuff: Talking Hank Sauce

SEA ISLE CITY Any hot sauce you can find in a surf shop lined up in rows like the next artisan sunscreen or surf wax maybe means its creators have got something figured out.

SEA ISLE CITY Any hot sauce you can find in a surf shop lined up in rows like the next artisan sunscreen or surf wax maybe means its creators have got something figured out.

For the Jersey Shore guys behind Hank Sauce, which has taken the red-hot red-hot-sauce market by storm in the last few years, having their friends at Heritage Surf sell their sauce was a no-brainer.

So was opening up a restaurant on Landis Avenue in the south end of Sea Isle, at 86th Street. Brian Hank Ruxton, after all, was an accomplished and creative chef who started out making the sauce for his friends at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. When Matt Pittaluga, now 28, decided to create a logo and bottle design for a college project, the business model seemed to coalesce like a well-formed set of waves. A third friend, Josh Jaspan, the business major, took hold of the business end.

The sauce is now sold up and down the East Coast, the restaurant is busy, farmers market sales are booming, the online business is robust, and their word-of-mouth reputation was such that Di Bruno Bros. in Philadelphia called them to ask to stock the sauce. Basically, they cant make enough of it.

So youre not Hank. Does Hank exist?

Hes here. Hes really busy. He couldnt step away right now.

    His name isnt Hank either?

Front Row: Hank Sauce co-owners Brian Hank Ruxton, Josh Jaspan, and Matt Pittaluga meet with CCIA Economic Development Director Jim Watson, Millville Vice-Mayor Jim Quinn, Freeholder Director Joe Derella and Millville Urban Redevelopment Corp. Executive Director Don Ayres, on site of the future Hank Sauce manufacturing site in the Mike Lascarides Industrial Park in Millville.

Hank Sauce, a maker of hot sauces and dry rubs, announced plans to expand its Sea Isle City-based operations in Millville. The company recently purchased property at the Mike Lascarides Industrial Park to construct a manufacturing facility. It will also be applying for UEZ certification and moving forward with hiring a team of professionals to assist with Planning Board submission requirements and construction efforts.

Cumberland County Freeholder Director Joe Derella stated, This is a great opportunity for three young entrepreneurs, and a real positive for the City of Millville and the county. And good for them for taking advantage of the special incentives that were offered. We believe these made a difference in their choosing to locate in Millville.

The Millville Urban Redevelopment Corporation, CCIA along with the City of Millville officials were all instrumental in helping to recruit Hank Sauce to locate in the Lascarides Industrial Park.

For the crew at Hank Sauce, life and business are simple. Both are those less is more kind of things.

Operated by four college friends from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla., Brian Ruxton, Matt Pittaluga, Joshua Jaspan and Max Kiser, all 25 years old, each bring something special to the table at Hank Sauce Restaurant in Sea Isle City, besides the quartet of namesake hot sauces available to use at will.

Our whole thing is just being different, says Jaspan about the business they have created, making hot sauce and running their own restaurant.

Ruxton made the first version of his sauce about eight years ago, never really thinking that it was anything special.

Pittaluga gave the group the kick in the butt they needed to get started by suggesting they bottle and sell the sauce.

Ill make you a label, and yada, yada, yada, Pittaluga says.

When people started dousing it on themselves, we knew we had something, Pittaluga says.

Which Hank Sauce is Hottest? Chicken Wing Challenge

It is an exciting time for Hank Sauce. With a restaurant and manufacturing plant, they have the capacity to really grow the business. Their plans include product innovation, expansion into new points of distribution and investing some resources into branding and marketing. In the past eight years, Hank Sauce has done a tremendous job of delivering a high-quality product while simultaneously building a brand that resonates with customers. This strategy has led to a loyal group of followers that are excited to see what happens next, as Hank Sauce looks to develop new flavors and products.

It will be interesting to see if Hank Sauce will bring on investors during this pivotal time in the business. On one side, an investment could allow the guys to scale the business much more quickly and have access to more retailers across the nation. On the other side, the three friends are very much in sync and have a true vision for the next phase of the business, and there is concern that bringing in another party may throw that off balance. Josh, Matt and Brian have done well so far, and Im excited to see what happens next for them.
