What Is Alfredo Sauce
As a classic Italian sauce, you probably know alfredo best from the pasta dish fettuccini alfredo.
The sauce itself of this beloved dish is fairly simple, and just has four main ingredients. Most traditional alfredo recipes consist of the following:
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1 cup of whipping or heavy cream
- A pinch of salt
- Freshly ground pepper for taste
- Half a cup of grated parmesan cheese, with more grated on top of the final product
From a nutrition perspective, most alfredo sauces are pretty calorie dense, but are generally a good source of fats and protein. The exact breakdown will of course vary from brand to brand and recipe to recipe, but heres generally what you can expect from a quarter cup serving:
- 50 calories
While of course on keto youll have to avoid fettuccini pasta , this sauce is pretty versatile.
Ive included my own alfredo sauce recipe below, as well as some non-pasta ways to utilize it at the end of this article.
Ways To Use Keto Alfredo Sauce
I mentioned earlier a few traditional ways you can use this keto alfredo sauce, but there are many other ways to have it as well!
You could use it in place of marinara sauce for this 10-minute keto pizza.
Or, you could even meal prep this instant pot shredded chicken and use it as a sauce for that as well.

The jar is extremely family-friendly, too. The 14.5-ounce jar is just the right size for four generous servings of pasta. Alternatively, its ample sauce for crowd-pleasing chicken casseroles.

One of my familys favorite last minute dinners has always been fettuccine alfredo. My original alfredo sauce calls for flour, so it isnt an option for me when Im on the keto diet.

How To Reheat Keto Alfredo Sauce
To reheat leftover alfredo sauce, you can zap it in the microwave in a microwave-safe container or use the stovetop. In the microwave, reheat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until it reaches the desired temperature and consistency. On the stove, simply place in a saucepan over low-medium heat and stir until the alfredo sauce comes back to life.
If the keto alfredo sauce seems too thick once it has heated, stir in a small amount of water, cream, or broth to thin it out. It may take several minutes to rejuvenate the sauce with heat, as some of the core ingredients solidify when refrigerated.

Weight Watchers Alfredo Sauce

Keto Alfredo Chicken With Zoodles
Heat 2 Tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
If you are using a nonstick skillet, you can reduce the olive oil to 1 tablespoon.
Cook the 1 pound of zucchini noodles in the pan for 4-5 minutes. 4 minutes will make an al Dante zucchini noodle thats still slightly crisp and is bright in a green shade.
About 5 minutes will make a softer zucchini noodle and the green zucchini color starts to fade. Both options taste delicious, its just a matter of personal preference.
Drain the zucchini noodles. Zucchini is about 90% water and without draining, makes for a pretty runny sauce once your actual sauce gets added later on.
Return the zoodles back to the pan and turn the burner to medium-low. Add the alfredo sauce . I usually mix in part of the batch and then serve the rest on the side.
Cook the keto alfredo sauce and zoodles on low until everything is heated through. Top with warmed rotisserie chicken.
Serve and enjoy!

Alfredo Sauce That Perfectly Reheats
The real magic of this easy Alfredo sauce is that it reheats so well. So many cheese sauces are prone to separating into gritty cheese and puddles of greasy liquid when reheated, but not this sauce. The flour in the roux makes this a very stable, very reliable, and a very forgiving sauce.
The Alfredo sauce will harden into a thick paste once it cools in the fridge, but give it a few minutes of gentle heat on the stovetop or in the microwave, and it will once again become silky and creamy. If you see a few little beads of fat starting to form, just whisk vigorously to blend them back in.
You can also freeze this Alfredo sauce for up to one month. Let it thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating on the stovetop or in the microwave.

Can I Make Alfredo Sauce Dairy
To make a dairy-free version of alfredo sauce, replace the butter with vegan butter, cream cheese with vegan cream cheese, heavy cream with coconut cream. Leave out the parmesan cheese.
I personally have not tried it yet so I cant vouch for it, but if you try it let us know how it came out.
Coconut milk can work too, but coconut cream is thicker and resembles heavy cream the most.
