I love the intensity of the habanero heat of this mustard but the bitterness of the carrot doesn’t provide the kind of taste that I’m looking for in hot mustard.

Hot Ones is a YouTube sensation that has taken the internet by storm. It is produced by First We Feast and Complex Media and is hosted by Sean Evans.

First debuting in March 2015 the shows format consists of host Sean Evans interviewing a celebrity guest while both eat 10 chicken wings, each served with a progressively hotter hot sauce and culminating in The Last Dab, a sauce produced by Hot Ones themselves with a Scoville rating of 2,000,000+ units. The Last Dab was developed by legendary chilehead Smokin Ed Currie of PuckerButt Pepper Co., the creator of the infamous Carolina Reaper, the worlds hottest pepper.

The shows tagline, stated by Evans at the beginning of each episode, is The show with hot questions, and even hotter wings.

As of 19 September 2021 there have been fifteen seasons of Hot Ones produced with a total of 228 episodes. In 2018 Hot Ones won Best Non-Fiction Series at the Streamy Awards and the episodes on YouTube have been viewed more than 50 million times in total.

The Season 16 Lineup of Hot Ones hot sauces was announced by Sean Evans on 17 September 2021 with the first episode of Hot Ones Season 16 scheduled to premiere on Thursday, 23 September.

How To Store It

At our Chinese restaurant, we used to cover the mustard immediately after making it so it wouldnt dry out. Wed stir it up before serving.

Because its so easy to make, I like making smaller batches so its always fresh, and I dont have to deal with storing leftovers.

If making larger batches, always remember to use a clean utensil when stirring and serving your mustard. Its best to keep it refrigerated for maximum longevity. If maintained this way, itll last for weeks or even months in the fridge.

Every chapter, the guest and the host sit at a table and are presented with ten chicken wings, each one prepared with increasingly hot sauces. The guests challenge is to eat all ten of them, one by one, to be regarded as the winner.

While eating the chicken wings, the guests will be subjected to a series of questions by Sean Evans, one per wing eaten.

As the chicken wings get more and more spicy, it becomes increasingly more difficult for the guests to focus on the interview as their mouths burn with thousands upon thousands of Scoville units, making for an exceptionally entertaining formula.

If the guest fails to chow down on the ten wings, they lose the game and are put in the infamous Hall of Shame, along with every other guest that just couldnt bring themselves to finish off the deal such as the very first guest, Tony Yayo.

How To Make Chinese Hot Mustard

Mix the dry ingredients together in a small bowl until evenly combined. Add water and stir well until a liquid paste forms and all dry ingredients are absorbed.

Next, add oil and vinegar and stir well until evenly combined.

Let your Chinese hot mustard rest for 10 minutes covered, and re-stir to ensure the dry ingredients have fully absorbed.

At this point, taste your Chinese Hot Mustard and adjust it to your own preferences:

  • Add a little more water or oil if you like a thinner in consistency.
  • Add more rice vinegar if you like it a tad tart. Omit the vinegar altogether if you like it spicier, since vinegar makes your mustard a bit mellower in flavorsounds counterintuitive, I know!
  • Add more white pepper and/or mustard powder if you like it spicier.

Any changes beyond that, and its your own sauce folks! But thats the beauty of home cooking.
