With so many options, whats a spice-lover to do? Whos hot and whos not in the mass-market hot sauce game? I sampled ten hot sauces on olive-oil-fried eggsa classic in my breakfast routineto figured out whats good, whats bad, and what should always, without fail be in your fridge.

How To Use Melindas Hot Sauce

Melindas Original Habanero Pepper Hot Sauce basically goes with any food – from a dipping sauce for eggs or even splashed into a cocktail. Melindas website offers a range of recipes that features the hot sauces, which means you can afford to get creative.

One of the most popular ways of using Melindas Hot Sauce is as a coating or dipping sauce for chicken wings. The savory and spicy flavor works well with the bland flavor of chicken, which makes the meal extra exciting and flavorful. The Melindas Peri Peri Hot Sauce works best for chicken wings.

Melindas Hot Pepper Sauces

Over the past couple years I have become a big fan of Melindas hot sauces. The Original Habanero Hot Pepper Sauce is really delicious and goes well on lots thingsespecially tacos and breakfast burritos!

As you well know, I eat a lot of different hot sauces, but Melindas has risen to my top 3 for sure. I have been running through a bottle of it about every two months or so, and that is crazy. Considering how many varieties of hot sauces I use on a regular basis, to run out of one consistently that often is incredible. The only other hot sauce that I do that with is Tabasco, which I use practically everyday on one thing or another.

The Melindas brand actually offers 15 different flavor options, according to my count. I think I have only tried five of them. Gee whiz, I am slacking!

They categorize them as X Hot, XX Hot, XXX Hot, XXXX Hot , and X-tremely Hot on their website. The Red Savina falls into their XXXX Hot Sauce category. The Original Habanero that I eat all the time is in the X Hot group. So, to me, that means this Red Savina better be pretty freakin hot, because even the original one has a nice kick to it.

Melindas Green Sauce Review

Melindas Green Sauce is described right on its web page as, crafted by blending together a lot of good green stuff. And that it sure is. Its chock-full of green things from jalapeƱos to spinach and more. Theres a lot to take in on the flavor, but does the heat balance work? And is Melindas Green Sauce versatile in the kitchen or something more specialized? Lets review.

If you love herbaceous, vegetal green flavors and plenty of tang in your hot sauce, youll enjoy Melindas Green Sauce. It packs at most a low-medium heat, making it plenty eatable, too, for most. It can be used more like a spicy table sauce than a dash-at-a-time hot sauce.

If You Want Something Surprisingly Delightful: Melindas

In my notes for Melindas hot sauce, I wrote, somewhat shocked, actually tastes like peppers! And it does! With an underlying earthy sweetness and a really bright, citric buzz, this was probably the most surprising of all the hot sauces I tried, and I loved it. The secret ingredient, it turns out, are carrots blended into the sauce. Carrots! I cant wait to put this on roasted veggies and tacos, and integrate this into marinades.

Melindas Hot Sauce Heat Levels

The Original Habanero Pepper Hot Sauce is said to have medium heat levels, making it an all-rounder for those with different spice tolerances.

Just to give you an idea of what medium feels like – the habanero pepper is one of the worlds hottest chili peppers. Compared to jalapeƱos, which have a Scoville Units rating of 5,000, habanero peppers usually measure around 200,000 to 300,000 S.U.

However, the blend of vegetables and citrus flavors work to balance out the heat, so you have room to enjoy the flavors and the heat.

Other flavors will have different heat levels. The Naga Jolokia and the Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce are two of the spiciest flavors that Melindas has to offer.

    This is a great hot sauce! Spicy, but not crazy spicy. A great balance of flavors, the spicy peppers, the buttery truffles. My only regret is that I didnt get a case.

    Nando’s Peri Peri Hot Sauce

    Melindas Red Savina Taste Test

    Ok, here we go. Lemme give it a try

    I tried a good dousing of each of the two Melindas that I have on hand. I put each sample portion on a tortilla chip, to get a good and equal comparison.

    As you can see I used my good china to display this taste testaka a paper towel.

    The Red Savina is definitely hotter than the Original habanero. It has been a couple minutes now, and I can still feel a gentle tingle on my tongue. It is a nice heat though, not like the kind that overwhelms you and has you reaching for anything you can find to soothe the burn. Although I seem to do that to myself fairly often, I prefer this kind of burnobvious, but not mind altering.

    The Red Savina also has a little stronger flavor than the original. Although all their ingredients on their labels are the same besides the type of pepper, the Red Savina lists the chili pepper as the first ingredient. So, as I have always understood, that is the most prominent item in the recipe.

    In the Original the first listed item is carrots, then habanero peppers. The Red Savina actually seemed a slightly more tangy to me. Maybe having more carrots proportionality in the original mellowed out the tang a bit. Overall, they are pretty similar in flavor, but the Red Savina definitely makes more of an impression.

    If When You Say Hot You Mean Hot: Texas Pete

    Woo-ee. If youre a spice-seeker, Texas Petes option will do right by you. The heat hits your tongue hard andunlike many saucesit hits you right away. The spice mingles with a hearty helping of white vinegar, which means your tongue tingles and burns at the same time. This is one for the extremists.

    Melindas Hot Sauce was owned and created by Marie Sharp since 1981 in Belize. Maries habanero pepper sauce recipe quite literally blew the nation away under the name of Melindas Hot Sauce in 1989.

    During this time, Melindas Hot Sauce was then trademarked by its importer, Figueroa International Inc., which then forced Marie Sharp to make her own brand of hot sauce under her name.

If you want to add a splash of this to scrambled egg tacos or huevos rancheros, I think youd be very pleased.

    Dl Jardine’s Blazin’ Saddle Xxx Hot Sauce

    KatieD on Amazon put it right: “This is my favorite hot sauce. My obsession is real and I’m not even slightly ashamed. It has a kick that will get you, but the taste is amazing and is worth the sting.” This sauce is deservedly popular in its home state of Texas. Now you can make it a thing in your home state, too.

    If You Want The Best Hot Sauce: Cholula

    Without a doubt, Cholula is the ultimate workhorse hot sauce. Its well balanced, with acid, heat, salt, and a touch of vinegar shining through. It goes just as well on tacos as it does on fried potatoes, and I love it on eggs as much as red beans and rice. If you can only have one hot sauce in your kitchen, Cholula would be my choice.

    What Is A Red Savina Pepper

    I thought it appropriate to first give a little information on the star of this hot sauce, the Red Savina. This pepper is actually a habanero that has been specially bred to supposedly be hotter and bigger than a regular habanero. It is also red in color, instead of the typical orange habanero we usually see.

    For a while it was even recognized as the hottest pepper in the world. According to wikipedia, In February 2007, the Red Savina chili was displaced in Guinness World Records as the hottest chili in the world by the Naga Jolokia pepper. The Red Savina held the record from 1994 until 2006.

      Melindas Red Savina Vs Original Habanero

      To wrap this post up I would say both of them are really good and worth trying for yourself. In the end, I am confident I will continue to go through the Original Habanero faster than I will this new Red Savina Fiery Hot Pepper Sauce. It has been about 15 mins now, and there is still a slight sense on my tongue that I ate something spicy.

      What this means to me is that I if I gave a good shake of the Red Savina on each bite of food, as I do with the Original, my mouth would be on fire after a few bites. If you have spicy food experience like me, then you know that it seems to build and build as you continue to eat it. It creates layers of heat in a way. That is, unless you take a big rest in between each bite. I do not do that lol.

      With that said, I will for sure keep the Red Savina in my arsenal, but probably use a few drops every few bites instead of non-stop. But if you are looking for something with a pretty good kick to it and a really delicious flavor than this is the sauce for you. It is by far one of the best tasting legitimately hot sauces I have tried.
