Tips For Making This Shrimp Alfredo Recipe

Cheesey Chicken Ragu Alfredo w Penne Pasta … mmmm Good!
  • In a hurry? Make the sauce, pasta, and shrimp at the same time. However, if you dont want to manage 3 pots at the same time, make the alfredo sauce first and keep it warm. Then cook the shrimp while your pasta boils and put everything together with the cooked pasta once its ready.
  • Prep your shrimp ahead of time. I buy raw deveined shrimp at the store, but they still need to have the shells and tails removed. This is an easy prep task you can do the morning or day before. Just store the cleaned shrimp in an airtight container in the fridge until youre ready to cook.
  • Dont use garlic powder! Fresh garlic is a must for the sauce! The flavor is as different as day and night. Trust me.
  • Ready to kick your alfredo up a notch? Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the pot before stirring the pasta and sauce together. This hint is fabulous!

Why Isnt Olive Gardens Alfredo Sauce Gluten Free

Im not positive, but I think Olive Garden uses a roux in their sauce to make it a little thicker than normal. A roux is just a mixture of equal parts flour and fat and its used to thicken sauces. Sadly, a lot of places use roux and, therefore, we cant enjoy those sauces. If they only knew that there are other ways!

Ingredients To Make Jar Alfredo Sauce Better

Ragu Cheese Creations Classic Alfredo Sauce

My simple recipe only needs a few extra ingredients for the best results. However, you need to please your taste buds, so try different things.

I typically add 5-6 extra ingredients, but you might like more or less.

Its all up to you to make it your own sauce with the same or different ingredients.

Here are some things you can add to your own Alfredo sauce to make it delicious:

    • Garlic in any form
    • Parmesan cheese
    • Any type of fresh herbs

I also like to add some protein, and I prefer chicken, either chopped or shredded. Ive also used shredded beef.

Or if you prefer seafood, fish and shrimp are good too.

If you want to add color to your Alfredo sauce, top it with chives, parsley flakes, or pieces of red bell pepper.

I do this because I think that when food looks good it also tastes better.

If you like a little bit of tartness to your Alfredo sauce, try adding some yogurt, either plain or Greek.

Another thing you can add is a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. It provides a hint of sour that balances out the richness of the cream.

How To Make Alfredo Sauce With Heavy Cream

So, how to make alfredo sauce with heavy cream? Its incredibly easy. You only need four ingredients and ten minutes!

I didnt include nutmeg in the ingredient count, because its optional. Salt and pepper are also excluded by convention. Everyone has those around, right?

Start by sauteing minced garlic in some butter. Add heavy cream, and simmer for five minutes, until the volume reduces by about one third. It will get thicker as this happens.

For the fastest results, choose a larger saucepan. The more surface area you have, the less time it will take!

The last step is to add the Parmesan cheese. Reduce heat to low and add the cheese, whisking constantly, until smooth. You can add the nutmeg, sea salt and black pepper to taste at the end.

Viola! That is how to make the best easy Alfredo sauce recipe!

As for consistency, you can adjust it to your liking. If its too thick, you can thin it out with more cream. If its too thin, add more cheese.

    How To Make Chicken Alfredo

Gather all the ingredients ready to start preparing the food.

Start with boneless, skinless chicken breasts.

Place them in between two sheets of plastic wrap, on a cutting board, and pound them thin.

This makes this cook quicker and also helps tenderize them.

Season each chicken breast with salt, pepper, garlic powder and poultry seasoning.

Melt some butter in a skillet to brown the chicken in.

Place the chicken in the skillet, seasoned side down, over a medium/high heat.

Sprinkle the other side with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and poultry seasoning to your taste preferences.

Cook the chicken for 3-4 minutes until browned on one side, then flip it over and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the second side is browned, and the breast is cooked through.

Depending on the size of your skillet, you may be able to cook all of the chicken in one batch.

If not, remove the cooked chicken to a cutting board, and repeat the above steps with the second batch of chicken, and so on, until its all cooked.

Once the chicken has cooked, place it on a cutting board, use a sharp chefs knife to dice it into bite sized pieces.

Add all of the chicken back into the skillet once its diced, and pour in your jar of Ragu Classic Alfredo Sauce.

Place a lid on your skillet, and let it simmer about 20 minutes on medium/low heat.

Remove the lid, and give it a good stir.

Mix it up, and let it simmer together for another 5 minutes.

How To Thin Out Alfredo Sauce

If you prefer a thinner Alfredo sauce, there are some easy ways to thin it out. A lot depends on how creamy you want it.

Here are some ways you can thin out Alfredo sauce:

    • Add milk. I recommend doing this very slowly, just a couple of tablespoons at a time.
    • Use some of the pasta water from the noodles. The starch from the pasta will help keep some of the body and prevent it from being too watery.
    • Add chicken broth, beef stock, or vegetable broth. Again, I recommend adding just a little at a time, until you get the consistency you want.
    • You can also add water, but that waters down some of the flavor. You might need to add more seasonings if you choose water.

Brands Of Alfredo Sauce In A Jar

Next time you go to the grocery store, peruse the Italian sauce aisle. It seems that this aisle grows a little bit every time I go to the store.

As you look over the selection, youll see some national brands, such as Bertolli Alfredo sauce, Raos homemade Alfredo sauce, Classico Alfredo sauce, Ragu Alfredo sauce, and generic store brands of Alfredo sauce.

Ive found that these are all Alfredo sauces of good quality. However, my favorites are Classico and Raos. But you might like one of the others more.

Like anything else, its all a matter of personal taste.

Based on my experience, theyre all delicious, even though they all taste different. I recommend trying all of them one at a time, of course.

Many of the brands offer a choice between creamy white sauce and tomato sauce based Italian sauce.

You can also find more specific flavors, such as the creamy basil Alfredo from Bertolli.

My personal favorite is typically the one thats on sale because I know that Ill be making it my own sauce after adding a bunch of delicious ingredients.
