Everything cooks in one pot for this easy spaghetti recipe! Thats why I love my 6 quart Dutch oven so much!

Why so much salt? Dont worry. You will not be eating 2.5 teaspoons of salt. Saltwater boils faster than unsalted water, it also adds a ton of flavor to the pasta and helps the pasta keep from clumping together.

  • Cook spaghetti: Fill a large Dutch oven or pot with cold water 3/4 full and bring to a boil. Add 2 tsp salt and spaghetti. Separate pasta with tongs a few times during the first 2 minutes of cooking to ensure it does not stick. Keep cooking uncovered for 5 more minutes or until al dente, stirring occasionally.

Tips for cooking gluten-free spaghetti:

  • It cooks a bit faster than wheat, so watch closely.
  • It tends to stick stir often and rinse with cold water after draining.
  • It makes the water murky during cooking which is OK.
  • Drain pasta: Test the spaghetti for doneness towards the end by grabbing one strand onto a plate with tongs. Do not overcook until too soft. The key to tasty pasta is cooked pasta with a bite. Drain in a colander.

Step 1: Cook onion, carrot and celery in olive oil until onion is translucent.

Step 2: Add ground beef and cook and stir until browned.

Yes, here are some alternatives you could use besides tomato-based pizza sauce:

  • Ricotta cheese
  • ¼ tsp red pepper or 2 tablespoons white sugar.
  • ½ tsp fennel seed.

How to cook pasta sauce?

First, cook the sausage and beef with onions and garlic till brown in a saucepan. Drain the excess fat.

In a separate bowl, mix crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, basil leaves, oregano, bay leaf, salt, sugar, pepper, and fennel seeds. Pour these into the meats and stir.

As you stir, add olive oil and red wine. Slowly simmer as you occasionally stir for ten minutes up to an hour or more.

The sauce gets thicker as it cooks. Just add water and keep stirring until you achieve the right thickness.

If you dont want chunks, use a food processor to blend the ingredients.

Easy Homemade Ragu Sauce

My husband grew up on great sauce like his moms so when I came into the picture it was imperative that I learned how to make a good sauce. I learned this early on when we were dating and his mom went away for the weekend so I made him dinner and like a crazy person decided to make pasta.

I know why would an English chick try and make pasta for the son of a Sicilian mother? Must have hit my head!

Anyhoo I did and just as you might expect he ate it but was not shy to point out that if we were to get married he could not eat jarred sauce for eternity. Yes I used jarred sauce.. the horror! Now before everyone gets all mad and emotional about this we were dating for quite a while at this point. And yes he could make it himself. But he is more of a BBQ kind of guy and came from a traditional household so I understood.

That said, because of this dinner gone wrong episode, I learned to make awesome homemade Ragù from an awesome lady who is from Siciliy. The land of amazing Italian food.
