Almost Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce ~ Homemade BBQ Sauce Recipe ~ Noreen’s Kitchen

The best adjective to describe Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce is “bold.” Fair warning, it does have a kick to it, thanks to the inclusion of jalapeño pepper in its formulation. But while the heat might be a little much for some, it isn’t overpowering. Even those with an aversion to spice can enjoy it. The sauce is very thick, perfect for dipping and dousing your favorite BBQ meats in.

I Like Bbq Sauce With A More Smoky Flavor How Can I Achieve That

The smoked paprika is meant to give this recipe a smoky flavor, and for us, its just the right amount. If you usually prefer a more smoky sauce, you can add 1-3 teaspoons of liquid smoke to the recipe to help boost that smokiness. I would start with 1 teaspoon and build from there based on preference!

Trader Joes Carolina Gold Barbeque Sauce

Give kudos to Trader Joes for not being bashful about stepping out of the box to create a one-of-a-kind barbecue sauce. This stuff is really unique and really good. While you can put it on a cheeseburger or a sub sandwich, it really stands out when used with chicken. If youre searching for a sauce to use for dipping chicken, this is it.

Trader Joes Carolina Gold Barbeque Sauce has a strong mustard base but it successfully blends in sweetness from molasses and a subtle hint of smoke. Besides chicken, this is the sauce to use on grilled vegetables. While its absolutely fine on pork and beef, you will appreciate what it can do to take your chicken and vegetables to the next level.

Unlike many of the competing barbecue sauces, Trader Joes found the optimal balance between being easy enough to pour yet still being thick and creamy enough to use as a dipping sauce.

Mother Raw Organic Original Bbq Sauce

Mother Raw’s Organic BBQ Sauce is a plant-based batch made from organic date paste, tomato purée, unfiltered apple cider vinegar, minced onion, garlic, and a combination of spices like paprika and gray sea salt. I loved the better-for-you angle the brand was going for and can appreciate the spin on a traditional sauce. However, as far as taste goes, if I didn’t know better, I would have assumed I was taking a spoonful of ketchup.

Hear me out: The sauce has a gentle tomato flavor profile and a somewhat grainy texture at room temperature. In my opinion, it’s a solid healthy alternative to mainstream condiments, but I wouldn’t categorize it as a barbecue sauce, and so it landed itself at number seven.

Sweet Baby Rays Barbecue Sauce

Homemade Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce Recipe – EASY Dump and Go!

If youre addicted to sweets, go with Sweet Baby Rays. Its not particularly good, mind you, but at least it doesnt pretend to be something its not. Instead of attempting to mask or balance the sweetness, this sauce doubles down on it by combining high fructose corn syrup, molasses, regular corn syrup, white sugar, and pineapple juice concentrate. Honestly, the pineapple flavoring is a quite interesting addition that makes this barbecue sauce unique. If you like your barbecue sauce really, really sweet, you wont be too disappointed by this brand.

However, not only is Sweet Baby Rays Barbecue Sauce incredibly sweet, it also uses sodium benzoate as a preservative. Sodium benzoate may be linked to everything from ADHD, to obesity, allergies, and even cancer. So, if youre not concerned with that additive , and youre looking to add some exceedingly sweet barbecue sauce to your dinner plate, youve found the holy grail.

Sweet Baby Rays Took Its Name From A Basketball Nickname

Theres a story behind every beloved product name. Sometimes that story is manufactured, other times the name has an endearing history. In the case of Sweet Baby Rays, the name came before there was even an inkling of starting a barbecue sauce company, Dave Raymond told the Chicago Tribune in 1990.

According to legend, Daves brother Larry, named the sauce in honor of Daves childhood nickname, Baby Ray. Dave earned the nickname while playing basketball on Chicagos west side as a kid. In a short documentary, Dave Raymond said that he grew up in a place where you had to either kinda be in a gang or play sports to go out, and basketball was a big part of his life. His brother was called Ray , so the younger Dave became Baby Ray.

One day, he told the documentarians, Daves team was playing a bigger and older team. He made a fancy move during shooting drills, and one of the guys said, Hey, thats sweet, Baby Ray. That stuck, and it eventually lost the pause between sweet and Baby Ray. Larry went with the nickname when he entered the familys barbecue sauce into the Mike Royko Rib-off, and the rest is history. Since the early days of the company, Dave has been the face of the brand thats named after him.

How To Cook Little Smokies Without Barbecue Sauce

Sweet Baby Rays Inspired BBQ Sauce

Some people are not a big fan of barbecue sauce. Just like my brother, he doesnt like dipping ribs in barbecue sauce. To some, it overpowers the taste of the meat.

Anyway, you can still enjoy this by browning it in a non-stick pan. If frozen, thaw in fridge. When you open the package, it is quite oily already so no need to add oil otherwise add 1 to 2 tablespoons oil.

Drain liquid. You can pat dry the smokies with paper towel before browning. I dont.

Heat oil over medium heat. Add smokies and brown for 1 to 2 minutes. Check if you need to lower your stove heat.

When done, transfer to a plate lined with paper towel to remove excess oil.

Thats it. You can still enjoy these babies without barbecue sauce.

    Eastern North Carolina Vinegar Sauce

The spicy and acidic African flavor profile was readily adopted in eastern North Carolina. Considered the mother of all American barbecue sauces, it can be traced back several centuries in North Carolina, where whole hog cue reigns supreme. Unlike many modern sauces, the eastern-style uses no tomato, relying instead on a tart combination of vinegar and added spices like cayenne, black pepper, crushed red pepper, hot sauce , salt, and sometimes water. Author and chronicler of North Carolina barbecue Bob Garner notes that some original recipes even utilized coastal ingredients like oysters. This thin, watery wash is used to soak pork as it cooks over the flame.

    Additional Notes On American Sauces

    Sweet Baby Ray

Americas regions cultivate an evolving spectrum of sauces with smaller-but-emerging styles found throughout the 50 states. Some argue that Memphis and St. Louis represent an alternative style, similar to Kansas City but with a thinner more vinegary base. In North Carolina, scholars also contend that a third imported style riffing on thicker tomato-based sauces has taken hold in the northern regions of the state. And in Kentucky, mutton is sometimes dressed with black Worcestershire-based dip. Wherever its applied, sauce adds a signature that marks barbecue as one of the U.S.s great folk food traditions.

I heard a lot of friends raving about Sweet Baby Rays products, so I thought Id give them a try. Am I ever glad I did! I started out with the Original Barbecue Sauce and said, Now is the way its done.Ive never been a big fan of most commercial barbecue sauces. Theyre usually too sweet for my taste. Sweet Baby Rays is a very nice balance of sweet, sour, and spice just the right touch that doesnt overwhelm the taste of the meat. Ive used it with pork and beef. Ill bet its twice as good on chicken. Who knows? The next time I buy lamb, Ill slather on some Sweet Baby Rays Original to see how that works. The consistency of Sweet Baby Rays is really good. Too many bottled sauces are thick as glue. This one is different. Its thick without blorting out in big messy gobs. Sweet Baby Rays adheres to the meat nicely and doesnt slither off into the coals.I like the price of Sweet Baby Rays Original, too. You can pay a lot more or you can pay a bit less, but this one is the best bang for my buck, Ive found.
