Fans of Taco Bell know that the chain often tests new potential menu items on a smaller scale before bringing them to market nationwide. This week, I got an inside look and the chance to taste a handful of these fresh ideas, including two new versions of the Mexican Pizzas, the $2 Chicken Poblano Caesar Burrito, and the Crispy Chicken Wings from the new Ultimate Game Day Box. The pizzas and the burrito are still in the test phase, but the Ultimate Game Day Box, which includes the Crispy Chicken Wings, is launching on Jan. 26.
Many Taco Bell customers were thrilled when the Mexican pizza returned to the permanent menu last year, and they’ll be happy to hear that there might be more in store for the cult classic. I got first-hand access to two new variations of the pizzaa Cheesy Jalapeño Mexican Pizza and a Triple Crunch Mexican Pizza. These two new items have been in the testing stage in stores in Oklahoma and Nebraska since late 2022.
Next on the “potentially coming soon” list, and the chain’s latest addition to the craveable value menu, is a $2 Chicken Poblano Caesar Burrito. This item is being exclusively tested in Charlotte, N.C. In addition, I got an early taste of the Ultimate Game Day Box, including the iconic queso-flavored Crispy Chicken Wings launching as a limited-time offer for the second year in a row from Jan. 26 until Feb. 9 .

For football fans, game day comes with its own set of must-have grub and nothing is more quintessential than chowing down on pizza and wings at kickoff time. Now, a fast-food titan is offering its own spin on the iconic pairing, just in time for playoffs.
On Jan. 19, Taco Bell announced the return of Crispy Chicken Wings, which are back for a limited time at participating locations nationwide starting Jan. 26 through Feb. 9.
Coated in Mexican Queso seasoning, the crispy wings are back after a lengthy absence following their lauded debut last year. They come with your choice of dipping sauce, from Creamy Jalapeño to Spicy Ranch.
According to a press release, the wings were first successfully tested in August 2020 before appearing nationwide on menus for a limited time only a week in January 2022. This go-round, customers have double the time to grab the item for themselves.
The resurgence of the cheesy menu item completes what Taco Bell calls the dream team of iconic menu items, which, aside from the wings, includes two other fan faves in the chains Ultimate GameDay Box.
Meant to be shared, the Ultimate GameDay Box includes one Mexican Pizza, four Crunchy Tacos and eight Crispy Chicken Wings alongside two Spicy Ranch dipping sauces but we won’t judge you if you buy a box for just yourself.

Pizza and wings are quintessential Super Bowl foods, so Taco Bell has incorporated both into a special new trio box ahead of the big game on Feb. 12.
For $22, the new Ultimate GameDay Box comes with one Mexican pizza, eight crispy chicken wings, two spicy ranch dipping sauces, and four crunchy tacos meant to be shared with a crowd.
After a successful test period in August 2020 and limited-time launch in January 2022, the Mexican queso-coated wings have officially been added to the Taco Bell menu lineup. Fans can also order the wings a la carte for $6.99.
Taco Bell has also created a “Wings Filter” in its app to show which nearby restaurants have them available.
From Jan. 26 through Feb. 9, customers can order the Ultimate GameDay Box in-restaurant and on the app for order ahead and delivery at participating locations while supplies last.

When Taco Bell offered this promotion in 2022, chicken prices were near all-time highs. That’s why the chain limited the promotion to a week and made it an “until we sell out” offer. Taking that approach maximized publicity but also capped the chain’s risk in selling a pricey item.
Now, chicken prices have plummeted but they may not stay down for long.
David Maloni, food-service-supply-chain analyst and president of Datum FS, told Restaurant Business Online that chicken prices have bottomed and will move higher over the next six months.
There are signs that chicken producers have started to pull back on production, he said. Margins for chicken producers declined to historically low levels and feed prices are elevated. These lower chicken prices are not sustainable in the long run.
