What Can You Substitute For Milk In Alfredo Sauce


For this recipe, Ive used my favorite combination of dairy free milks: cashew cream and canned coconut milk. Normally I find the coconut milk to sweet, and the cashew cream a little nutty, but paired together, they mask each others non-dairy flavor.

They also make the creamiest base for dairy free Alfredo. With just a little garlic and some nutritional yeast, you wont believe there isnt cheese in this Alfredo sauce.

Garlic Butter Sauce Ingredients

This homemade garlic sauce contains a little vegan butter, a lot of fresh garlic, plant-based milk, spices and a little cornstarch to thicken. You can use any other starch of choice, for example, arrowroot flour/starch, or potato starch. Tapioca flour or regular flour should be fine too.

I also love adding a little lemon juice which adds a nice refreshing kick! I once replaced a part of the dairy-free milk with white wine which turned out to be a success. Very flavorful and delicious! But this is of course optional. If you decide to give the wine a try, then I would recommend leaving out the lemon juice.

This pasta dish is not as greasy as pasta Aglio e Olio, yet its creamy like pasta carbonara without containing egg yolks, heavy cream, or Parmesan cheese.

Easy Vegan White Sauce (Bechamel) | Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free Creamy Sauce
  • In a large sauce pan, heat the olive oil and butter over low heat. Add the onions and garlic and gently saute for about 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
  • Add the flour and stir into the veggie mixture with a wooden spoon. Then, pour in the white wine and stir.
  • Bring to a simmer and gently simmer for 3 or 4 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken. Add the salt, parmesan, and parsley, and stir until cheese begins to melt.
  • Serve with pasta of choice, sauce makes enough for about 1 lb of pasta.

    How Do I Make This Creamy Vegan Tomato Sauce Without Cashews

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. On a sheet pan, add the olive oil, cherry tomatoes, onion, garlic italian seasoning, garlic salt, and tofu. Toss well to combine, making sure to coat all the tomatoes, tofu, and onions with the oil and spices.
  • Roast the vegetables and tofu for 30 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Once finished baking, carefully remove the sheet pan from the oven. Transfer the vegetables and tofu mixture to a blender. Add the almond milk and nutritional yeast and blend in high until the sauce becomes thick and creamy. Transfer to a dish and stir in the fresh basil.
  • Toss sauce with pasta, enjoy as a dip for garlic bread, or stir into risotto.

    To preserve vegan white sauce pasta, it is best to keep it in the refrigerator, and you can use it within about two days. It is recommended to use heat-resistant glass containers to ensure the health of the family.

    However, choosing a good plastic food container is also popular with many people because of its cheaper price, lightness, and variety. If you choose to use plastic food containers, choose carefully to ensure your health.

    For the protein component to the recipe I used Inglewood Organic Chicken Sausages. They paired so perfectly with the sauce!Please make sure you choose certified organic sausages so you are avoiding harsh preservatives commonly used in sausages. Namely, common preservatives you will find in non-organic sausages include sulphates/ sulphites/ 220-228.

    For the pasta gluten free mung bean pasta which is higher in fibre and protein than other gluten free pastas that are typically quite starchy. You can use whatever is your favourite pasta but I love to use pulse or bean pastas for their nutritional quality.

    If You Don’t Like Coconut

    If you use full-fat coconut milk, the sauce has a very mild coconut flavor. I also find that organic coconut has a stronger flavor, so you may want to use a brand that is not organic. If you dont like coconut, you can easily replace the coconut milk with 1 3/4 cup plain soy milk and 1/4 cup of any neutral-flavored oil.

    Tips When Making This Vegan White Sauce

    • I like this sauce quite thin, especially when I want to pour it over pasta. You can see the consistency easily if watching the video. If you want to use this sauce to stuff pasta shells or use as a white filling sauce for lasagna, then you could easily make this sauce thicker. To do this, use a little more cashews . Or check out this cashew ricotta cheese for a perfect lasagna filling.
    • Taste along the way as you blend the sauce and adjust how much salt, nutritional yeast and lemon juice you want. If you are new to nutritional yeast, then you can start with a little less first and taste.
    • If making this sauce using a regular blender , then make sure you soaked your cashews long enough first and you might need to blend for a little longer. Also, stop the blender a few time to scrape the side of the blender to ensure all the cashews bits are crushed.
