Easy keto yum yum sauce comes together in a snap. Hibachi restaurants typically serve this type of sauce. However, it has many other potential uses. Its tangy, sweet, and simply delicious.

In most cases, the term sweet would have keto dieters turning the other cheek. But my version is entirely keto-friendly! Not so when it comes to the restaurant version.

I found an authentic non-keto version here and have adapted the recipe by swapping out sugar for allulose. Out of the numerous recipes Ive found, this most closely replicated my experience at hibachi restaurants. I think the key difference is that this recipe uses tomato paste, whereas others opt for ketchup.

Quick Keto Yum Yum Sauce With A Twist

This Keto Yum Yum sauce is a low-carb version of the Japanese-American steakhouse classic sauce with an added twist of umami: soy sauce! It is sweet and spicy with just the right amount of tanginess that makes it versatile enough to go with grilled meats and seafood, cauliflower fried rice, a keto corn tortilla salad, and keto tempura! I have even slapped this sauce on burgers with keto buns and dipped my zucchini fries in it a true keto condiment for any and everything!

Japanese food has to be one of my favorite cuisines, especially for a keto diet .

The preparation is mostly whole, fresh foods prepared in a simple manner keeping the natural flavors and nutrition intact, much like the way Teppanyaki restaurants, or Japanese steakhouses, serve most of these dishes.

What better to serve with delicious hibachi grilled meats and vegetables than a yummy dipping sauce ?

A basic recipe for Yum Yum Sauce should have the three main flavors- sweet, sour, and spicy and making a keto version is as easy as choosing a low-carb version of each!

And of course, if you want a little something extra, a splash of Japanese soy will make this already awesome condiment next-level!

Useful Recipe Notes & Variations

  • I used Homemade Vegan Sour Cream as the base for this Hibachi sauce, but feel free to use vegan mayonnaise instead or even a cashew cream .
  • A pinch of Kala Namak will add eggy flavor to the sour cream similar to mayo. You can skip it if using store-bought vegan mayo.
  • Sweetener: Use Erythritol or any other keto sweetener for a low-carb keto yum yum sauce.
  • You can add 1 tbsp of melted vegan butter for a more authentic flavor to this vegan yum yum sauce. However, I prefer to keep mine healthier.
  • To add some spice: Add a little chili or cayenne powder to the sauce. Alternatively, a drizzle of Sriracha could be added.
  • You could create the mixture in a small blender/food processor instead of whisking.
  • Optional Add-Ins: Add a little mirin for extra tang and depth of flavor. White miso is sometimes added as well for more umami and flavor balance.
  • Adjust the ingredients according to your preferencemore smoked paprika for smokiness, sweetener for sweet, spicy element, tomato sauce for savory, etc.

What Makes This Sauce Great For Keto

The great thing about this recipe is that it has a mayonnaise base. Sometimes its easy to throw off your macros while on keto by eating too much protein.

Now, Im not of the macro counting camp and simply count net carbs while keto dieting. However, it is an excellent idea to gauge whether you are getting enough fat. Fat is king in the keto diet, after all.

Thats why I love this sauce and this recipe. Mayo is the main star, and mayo is total fat, no carbs, and no protein.

This sauce from Yum Yum is,

Yum-Yum Sauce is indeed a popular Japanese restaurant sauce that is best known in the USA and Canada. At Japanese restaurants, it is indeed a condiment which is usually served with seafood, especially along with prawn.

This is not a common sauce and, however, is not prevalent only in Japan.

Yum-Yum Sauce would be a rich sauce that is even more yummy, with all 3 flavors, Spicy, Sweet, and Tangy, all in one place.

Japanese mayonnaise seems to be the key ingredient used in the restaurants here, and even the usual mayo in the recipe works great.

It is also referred to as shrimp sauce, Sakura sauce or seafood sauce and is a mixture of creamy, sour and sweet, essentially a flavorful dip which makes it all delicious.

This is addictive where youre unable to stop eating yourself. Youre certainly going to put it to each and every dish that you eat.

Why, you may also ask, do it at home when its available on the market? We prefer to use higher quality and also fresh ingredients when we do it at home. We all know exactly what goes into making this sauce, too.

Besides this, its cheap and you can make even more at home compared to the cost of a store bought sauce. The homemade sauce is, therefore, usually better.

Tips And Storing Sauce

Sugar Free Yum Yum Sauce: keto, gluten free, low carb
  • Variety: This is definitely a great base sauce, if you need to add more or less seasoning to your liking go for it. Add some cayenne, a splash of vinegar or extra pepper. You decide.
  • Let it set: The longer the sauce sits before you use it the better, if you can plan to make a day ahead. It gives time for the flavors to meld.
  • Store: This is best kept in the fridge for up to 10 days. However this is so easy to make and so good, you can make small batches and make it fresh every time you need it.

Can I Add Spice To My Yum

Sure you can! The easiest way to add some Asian-style spice to this sauce is to use chili garlic sauce, a sauce incredibly similar to sriracha.

The best part is, unlike sriracha, this sauce isnt full of sugar and other additives. Even though they are both made by the same company, the two are very different for anyone who is reducing their sugar and carbohydrate intake.

Just a little bit of the chili garlic sauce goes a long way when it comes to spicing up an Asian-inspired dish.

However, if you are looking to make your yum-yum sauce hot and spicy, this will definitely do the trick!

So How Easy Is It Really

So once you have your mayo good to go , all you have to do is add some more ingredients and place in the fridge. Really, thats it.

The other ingredients you will need are tomato paste, butter or ghee, garlic salt, paprika and stevia .

Easy Keto Basil Pesto

Keto Summit

Ingredients: olive oil, pine nuts, garlic, fresh basil leaves, flat-leaf parsley leaves, nutritional yeast flakes, fresh lemon juice, salt, ground black pepper.

Traditional pesto involves using parmesan cheese, but as we dont advise you eat dairy products on the ketogenic diet, we have used nutritional yeast to give the cheesy flavor. Pesto makes a fantastic partner for vegetable noodles or other pasta and can bring a whole new level of flavor to an ordinary dish. If you are on a tight budget you can make this cheaper by omitting the pine nuts.

Ingredients: butter, heavy whipping cream, Parmesan Cheese, powdered garlic.

Alfredo sauce is normally used with pasta, and it can certainly liven up vegetable alternatives. Because this recipe uses a lot of dairy products, we would advise you only eat this occasionally, perhaps for a special occasion. This is a low carb recipe for a sauce with cheese and garlic goodness that makes a great partner for zucchini noodles.

Keto Sugar Free Cranberry Sauce Recipe (10 Min!)

Yes, this recipe can be made gluten-free by using a Japanese soy saucethat is labeled gluten-free.

Most people do not realize that their soy sauce contains gluten*, given the name of the product.

However, the process of making soy sauce includes combining soybeans and crushed wheat and fermenting them together for several days in brine.

Instead, gluten-free soy sauce is made with fermented rice instead of wheat.

Yum Yum Sauce Aka Shrimp Sauce

Yum Yum Sauce is a game-changer.

Even the most health-conscious people I know throw caution to the wind, and drown their food in this decadently creamy and rich sauce, when Yum Yum Sauce is present.

You can buy premade Yum Yum Sauce at the grocery store. However, I find the bottled variations are cloyingly sweet from the use of high fructose corn syrup. Our recipe requires only 5-ingredients and takes less than 5 minutes to make. No corn syrup necessary!

You Mean I Can Make It Myself

Yes, you heard me right. You can make this delicious, pink, creamy sauce yourself! And its SUPER easy to make!

Not only that, but if you choose the right mayo, you can avoid all of the bad fats in soybean and canola oil-based mayonnaise, by using an olive or avocado oil-based mayo!

Be sure to check the ingredients on the mayo before you buy it, because aside from bad oils, there are also common ingredients like corn starch, modified food starch and tons of preservatives added to conventional mayo!

If you dont have an extra 5 minutes to spare, you can use a mayo like this Primal Kitchen mayo. If you do have a few extra minutes, you can make your own mayo to do.

Is Soy Sauce Keto Friendly

Can you have soy sauce on keto? The answer is murky. Soy sauce is technically keto friendly because it contains low net carbs, but it is not the cleanest ingredient to stock in your low carb pantry.

Why? There are several reasons that soy may be bad for you:

  • Soy in its natural form contains phytoestrogens, compounds that act like estrogen in the body . Some research suggests that excessive soy consumption may lead to hormone imbalances for both men and women. However, the full effects are hard to discern because much of the research on soy is funded by large food companies .
  • Soy is subject to heavy genetic modification over 94% of soy in the United states was GMO in 2018 and soy sauce can contain traces of pesticide residues . If you prefer to eat organic or want to avoid GMOs in your keto diet, soy sauce is not an optimal choice.
  • Soy sauce often contains by-products of wheat and gluten, neither of which qualify as clean keto options.
  • Soy contains high levels of phytic acid, which inhibits mineral absorption .
  • If anything, you can have soy sauce on keto if you adhere to a dirty low carb diet.

    Teppanyaki Vs Hibachi Grill

    Sugar Free Yum Yum Sauce

Youve gone to what Americans refer to as Japanese steak houses. Youve watched the hibachi chefs do tricks on a hot plate, you enjoyed good food, and maybe its become one of your favorite places to have a celebratory meal. Fantastic!

You may have heard by now, however, that this is not an experience that youll find in Japan. Its true that you wont find what you know as Japanese steakhouse yum yum sauce in Tokyo eateries, but there is something thats kind of similar teppanyaki.

In this style of cooking, food is also prepared on a hot metal plate or flat iron griddle. Theres no egg juggling or flaming onion ring volcanoes. You wont find that type of theatrical cooking performance. Instead, when people go for teppanyaki, the main difference is that it means they are having a high-end steak dinner where they might feast on Wagyu beef.
