Since that initial eating of the soup Ive tried many others, and while Panera tomato soup wasnt the worse, I still have a fondness for La Madeleines.

Fast forward to removing as much sugar and eating less processed foods, here we are and now Im going to share this Keto tomato soup recipe that I hope blows you away like it did me.

Can You Eat Tomato Sauce On A Keto Diet

Wait a minute, isnt tomato sauce the same as a marinara sauce? Not quite.

I thought the same way too, but my tomato soup nazi chef friend was quick to point out they are entirely different things!

So whats the difference, you ask?

Both are indeed tomato-based sauces, but the main differences lie in the ingredients, the method of cooking, and of course, the taste and texture.

On the other hand, tomato sauce is a bit more complex and typically simmered for much longer for a thicker and richer flavor. Tomato sauces can also end up spicy, meaty, cheesy, or insert other adjectives here, which depends on the chef.

But I digress.

How To Make Keto Tomato Sauce


This sauce really couldnt be simpler to make.

To start, heat a good amount of extra virgin olive oil in a saucepan. To the oil, youll add 2-3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped. You want them finely chopped so that theyll disappear into the sauce.

Then, youll add the tomatoes. I like either crushed or whole tomatoes for this recipe. The whole tomatoes break down into a nice, chunky sauce with the help of a potato masher. Or, you can give them a quick blitz with an immersion blender for the smoothest tomato sauce.

After that, flavor the sauce with a generous pink of salt and dash of oregano. Taste for seasoning, and add more salt as needed. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, and let it cook for a few minutes to develop the flavor. It will be ready after just 10 minutes. But, if youre looking for a thicker sauce , you can let it simmer longer to reduce even more.

    Raos marinara sauce is not only good, but it is literally the only sauce you will ever buy. There are two reasons for this: the first has to do with the quality of the sauce itself. Its just that good. It has the perfect amount of flavor and seasoning, and the consistency is nice, as in, not too runny, not too thick. Basically, its their super sauce.

    The ingredients are simple, and the line is exactly what you would find in a recipe for most homemade marinaras: Italian tomatoes, olive oil, onion, garlic, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Unlike many canned tomato sauces, this one has no added sugar, preservatives, or colorants, so every small but powerful ingredient in the sauce has its moment in the limelight.

    I like to mix it with al dente penne or fusilli, along with frozen peas and small chunks of fresh mozzarella, its the most sublimely comforting dinner of the week. You can also use it to make manicotti, tomato soup, or as a dip for mozzarella sticks. .

    The other reason its such a hit has to do with the mysterious allure of the legendary restaurant the sauce originated from Rao in New York Citys East Harlem neighborhood.
