Sweet Baby Rays Sweet Chili Buffalo And Kickin Bourbon Wing Sauces
Week of Wings 5 Day 4. Our featured wings today are a 3 way from Sweet Baby Rays. Sweet Chili Wing Sauce and Glaze, Buffalo Wing Sauce and Glaze, and Kickin Bourbon Wing Sauce and Glaze. All are easily found on your local grocers shelves.
We like Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauces who doesnt? I would venture to say they are probably Americas favorite store-bought sauces. But how do their wing sauces hold up? The Sauce is The Boss as they say.
Preparation: Deep fried. Again, we did our usual 3 step cook baked at 350º for 40 minutes , deep fried at 350 375º for 2 3 minutes, then tossed in the sauce. See our Wings 101 post for more info.
I Was Surprised By How Tangy The Texas Pete Sauce Was
The sauce had an almost citrus-like taste upon the first bite, and it was thinner than some of the other brands. I had to dip it twice to really get the flavor, which was disappointing.
I loved the kick of flavor that the Texas Pete sauce offered, but it was a bit too tangy for my liking.

Sweet Baby Rays Buffalo Wing Sauce & Glaze
Next up, their version of Buffalo Wing Sauce.
full flavored sauce with the perfect blend of cayenne pepper and garlic, and a rich butter finish.
Ingredients:aged cayenne pepper, distilled vinegar, margarine, water, salt, dried garlic, contains less than 2% of: vegetable oil, paprika, xanthan gum, propylene glycol alginate, citric acid. Gluten free.
Texture and Appearance: Thin and bright orange in color. Were back to the typical buffalo style bottled sauce look here. Moderately clingy and sets up on the wings. Great cling factor.
Taste on wings: This has all the taste of a very traditional wing from your local bar. Not a lot of butter taste, and the vinegar flavor is very mild. The taste is average, and the heat only slightly hotter than other bottled sauces from the store. Tangy.
Heat Level: Hotter than some store sauces, but only at a bare minimum. Would make for an acceptable wing that everyone could enjoy. Nice quality of flavor. Reliable.
Satisfaction: 2 Stars Nothing wrong with these mild wings. Theyre just what you would imagine from a bar with a decent mild wing. Average.
I Poured All Of The Sauces On A Plate So That I Could Compare Them Visually Before Chowing Down
All of the sauces looked similar when I poured them on a plate, though some were thicker than others.
Archie Moore’s and Buffalo Wild Wings were the thickest, while Frank’s was particularly thin. I anticipated the thicker sauces to have the strongest taste.
Together, they looked like a monochromatic paint palette.

Can You Make Buffalo Chicken Wings Ahead Of Time
These Baked Buffalo Chicken Wings are really best when they are first made, but I do have a way you can get them done a little bit ahead of time if you need to.
Season and bake the wings but take them out 10 minutes before they are done cooking. Store the chicken wings in the refrigerator until about a half an hour before you need them. Bring the wings out of the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature while the oven heats up.
Now bake the chicken for the remaining 10 minutes then toss them in the buffalo sauce.
If you cook and and toss the wings in the buffalo wing sauce and then cool and reheat the wings will be softer and definitely not crispy, so try serving them right away or using the cooking method I described here.
Now its time to eat! Serve these wings with Ranch or Blue Cheese dressing for dipping and even some celery and carrot sticks on the side.
We LOVE serving these buffalo chicken wings for appetizers or the main meal. Obviously if youre serving these for dinner youll want to make sure you have a few more wings per person, so make sure you have enough!
Sweet Baby Rays Buffalo Wings
Ive been using Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce for years. Its a great sauce as-is, but it also makes for a good starter for making my own BBQ sauce. But until now Id never tried their Buffalo wing sauce. For some reason, I needed a coupon to get me off my butt and to the grocery store to pick up a bottle. Well, boy am I sorry for having waited so long to try it. This sauce makes for the perfect Buffalo wings. It is exactly what I was looking for when I made a quick batch of air fryer wings for lunch the other day. The right consistency, the right amount of spice, its spot-on good.
Ive read a few reviews of Sweet Baby Rays Buffalo wing sauce that say its too spicy. Well, yeah, each of us have a different definition of whats spicy, but I definitely found this to be just right. It has a bit of kick. Hey, its a Buffalo wing sauce. It contains cayenne pepper. Its gonna have some heat. But for me, its definitely not over the top.
Dont wait around for a coupon to pick up a bottle of this sauce. Learn from my mistakes!

Why Buffalo Sauce Is Often Non
A Lot of Buffalo Sauce Contains Milk
Milk is used in a lot of food products because it adds asource of fat which helps improve mouthfeel. It also helps ingredients mixnicely as it prevents them from adhering to each other.
The proteins in homogenized milk coagulate easily, allowingit to impart a smooth texture in sauces, soups, and stews. Its increased surface tension also gives foodproducts a greater foaming capacity.1
So, dont be surprised if you see milk on the label. Also, its easy to spot because its acommon allergy so it should be stated in bold under the ingredients.
Buffalo Sauce Sometimes Contains Egg
Lecithin is a compound found in soybeans and egg yolks andserves as a natural emulsifying agent. This is because one end of the moleculeattracts fat while the other attracts water.2
Thus, eggs help oil to stay dispersed in water and otherliquid compounds which keeps the sauce nice and homogenous. As such, egg, specifically egg yolk, is a common ingredient in sauces, dressings, mayonnaise, and hollandaise.3
Anchovies Is a Common Ingredient in Buffalo Sauce
Anchovies are really oily fish.4
Theyre gutted and salted in brine, which gives them their strong, pungent flavorand causes the color to turn a deep grey.
They tend to be used in small quantities to flavor foodproducts. Most people expect them on pizza but not in everyday condiments. However, their strong flavor allows them to be used in very small amounts in sauces likewing sauce and Worcestershire.

Frank’s Redhot Was The Spiciest Of The Bunch With An Acidic Flavor That I Loved
I didn’t have to coat my wings in too much of the sauce to get the taste I was hoping for, demonstrating how strong the flavor was.
The spice it offered was almost vinegary, and I enjoyed the refreshing zest.
It tasted just how I expect a Buffalo wing to taste, and I knew people would enjoy the sauce if I served it at a party.

With All Of That In Mind I Decided To Try Five Brands Of Buffalo Sauce To Prepare For My Own Football Festivities
I’m not an experienced wing eater, so I was going into the taste test with limited expectations. I figured the sauces would likely taste similar, as most of my experiences blur together.
I chose Sweet Baby Ray’s, Archie Moore’s, Frank’s RedHot, Texas Pete, and Buffalo Wild Wings as my brands.
Although Buffalo Wild Wings has its origins in the restaurant, its sauces are available for purchase in grocery stores and , so I thought it was fair to include.

How To Make Crispy Chicken Wings In The Oven
Theres a couple of tips that we have for making seriously crispy, oven baked chicken wings. The first step is to make sure your wings are really dry. Grab a bunch of paper towels and dry them as much as you can before adding the seasoning.
The next step is to season the chicken wings. The seasonings are pretty basic except for one special ingredient.
Baking Powder. Baking powder helps crisp this chicken wing recipe up in the oven for the best results. Of course frying your chicken wings will produce the most crispy chicken wings, and were not opposed to fried food once in a while!
But for the every day meal, a crispy oven baked chicken wings will do.
After you toss the chicken wings in the seasoning, place them on a wire rack over a baking sheet so that the air circulates all around the wings, not just on the top and the sides.
Spray the baking rack with cooking spray first so that the wings dont stick to them as they bake. You can also coat the baking sheet with aluminum foil to make cleaning up even easier.

The Last Sauce I Tried Was The Mild Flavor From Buffalo Wild Wings
You can find Buffalo Wild Wings’ sauce in grocery stores and online.
I happened to be near a Buffalo Wild Wings location when I shopped for my sauces, so I decided to pop into the restaurant and grab a side order of its mild sauce instead of investing in a bottle.
I regretted that decision after I got a taste of the sauce.
