It didn’t take long for McDonald’s limited edition Big Mac Special Sauce to find its way on to eBay.
The burger giant made available 10,000 bottles of the sauce at select restaurants worldwide starting Thursday. Several of those bottles have been posted to the online auction site and for quite a bit of money.
While the majority of posts offer the Big Mac sauce for a little more than $100, a few bold users have placed the target price at more than $10,000. One seller even put the sauce up for $100,000.
EBay users often put popular items up on the site for an excessive amount, but don’t actually expect people to pay that price. Instead, the high price tag is a tactic to lure buyers to a seller’s auction page. Once there, users click the “make offer” button and send in a lower-priced bid.
The seller of the $100,000 bottle of sauce said that if someone purchases the bottle for that price he will donate 20 percent of the sale to March of Dimes.
EBay told CNBC that there are about 40 bottles on sale on the auction site and most are selling for about $100.
Of course, not everyone is going bonkers for McDonald’s secret sauce. Many social media users have pointed out that the restaurant’s secret recipe has a similar flavor to Thousand Island dressing, which can easily be purchased for about $2.

Largely due to the special sauce slathered between each layer of the five-tier burger, the sandwich is an icon of fast food.
Now, nearly 50 years since it was first launched, McDonalds is giving customers the opportunity to buy the sauce in its stores.
From 12 February, 50ml dipping pots of special sauce will be available to buy in select stores across the UK for 50p each meaning customers can now enjoy the condiment with fries, veggie dippers and chicken nuggets.
However, there is a catch. The dipping pots are limited edition and expected to sell out fast, meaning that while they are available to purchase 24 hours a day, once they gone, theyre gone.
McDonalds has also stated that once bought, the pots will only have a seven day shelf life.

Big Mac fans will be delighted to hear that fast food giant McDonald’s is about to start selling Big Mac sauce dipping pots.
Yes, you read that correctly.
On 12th February, the fast food chain will be making the pots available to all UK and Ireland customers for the first time ever.
The pots will cost 50p each and contain 50ml of the ‘secret recipe sauce’ we all know and love. The limited run of pots will be on sale while stocks last and McDonald’s are expected stock to sell out fast – with restaurant staff prepped for bulk orders and queues to buy the popular condiment.
The news will be welcomed by fans as over the years the secret sauce has garnered something of a cult following.
A few years ago a limited edition bottle of the Big Mac burger sauce fetched a whopping £65,000 on eBay after a two-week bidding frenzy, raising money for charity in the process.
Speaking at the time a McDonald’s spokesman confirmed: The Big Mac burger sauce is so hard to get hold of.
“The bottle will be delivered to its owner in a special collectors box, with a voucher for a free burger. trying to confirm after a two-week bidding frenzy that the incredible winning offer was genuine.”

When McDonalds franchise owner Jim Delligatti first came up with his double patty, triple bun creation in 1967, he needed the perfect sauce to top it off. By 1968, the Big Mac® was launched nationally, and featured this delicious, creamy signature Big Mac® Special Sauce.
