How To Make Chicken Alfredo

Gather all the ingredients ready to start preparing the food.

Start with boneless, skinless chicken breasts.

Place them in between two sheets of plastic wrap, on a cutting board, and pound them thin.

This makes this cook quicker and also helps tenderize them.

Season each chicken breast with salt, pepper, garlic powder and poultry seasoning.

Melt some butter in a skillet to brown the chicken in.

Place the chicken in the skillet, seasoned side down, over a medium/high heat.

Sprinkle the other side with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and poultry seasoning to your taste preferences.

Cook the chicken for 3-4 minutes until browned on one side, then flip it over and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the second side is browned, and the breast is cooked through.

Depending on the size of your skillet, you may be able to cook all of the chicken in one batch.

If not, remove the cooked chicken to a cutting board, and repeat the above steps with the second batch of chicken, and so on, until its all cooked.

Once the chicken has cooked, place it on a cutting board, use a sharp chefs knife to dice it into bite sized pieces.

Add all of the chicken back into the skillet once its diced, and pour in your jar of Ragu Classic Alfredo Sauce.

Place a lid on your skillet, and let it simmer about 20 minutes on medium/low heat.

Remove the lid, and give it a good stir.

Mix it up, and let it simmer together for another 5 minutes.

Why Did My Alfredo Sauce Break

Cheese sauces like this Alfredo sauce usually break because it was heated too much or too quickly. If you keep the sauce warm for an extended period of time, the sauce can break as well.

Changes in temperature, for example chilling the sauce in the refrigerator and then heating it up can result in a oily mess when the emulsion breaks. Microwaving Alfredo sauce is not a good idea. If you need to reheat the sauce, do it on the stove top, slowly over low heat.

What Pasta To Use In Shrimp Alfredo

The best pasta to use with Alfredo sauce is a thicker, long pasta like fettuccine, linguine, tagliatelle, and even spaghetti. Whichever pasta you choose, will taste great with sauce and shrimp. Just make sure to salt the water that pasta is cooked in and dont overcook it. Pasta will not be a pleasant experience if cooked to mushy texture.

How To Simmer Alfredo Sauce From The Jar

How to Make Shrimp Alfredo | Pasta Recipes | Allrecipes.com

The best way to improve premade sauce is to gently simmer it while you cook your pasta. This will help to enhance its flavor and will also reduce the sauce a bit. Once the sauce has simmered on medium or medium-low heat, and the pasta is cooked, pour the pasta into the sauce, rather than the other way around. This will allow you to coat all the pasta with the sauce effectively.

Dont forget to sprinkle some fresh herbs or parmesan cheese on top of your pasta before serving.

How Do You Cook The Perfect Pasta

First of all, always be sure that your water is salted. You want the water to have plenty of salt so that your pasta is well seasoned when it comes out of the pot. The pasta should be cooked to al dente which is tender, but firm.

This is one of the easiest dinners you will make. Its perfect for the warmer months as well because it involves very little time over the hot stove but is hearty enough for the biggest appetites. I know Ill be making this shrimp alfredo pasta all the time now that my family fell in love with it!

The Best Way To Choose And Cook Shrimp

Unless you live by the sea, your best bet for high-quality shrimp is found in the freezer aisle. Theres no set standard for labeling shrimp by size , so look for a range of numbers on the package that indicate the number of shrimp per pound. The more shrimp per pound, the smaller the shrimp. For shrimp Alfredo, were looking for shrimp tangled within every swirl of fettuccine. Look for 17 to 21 shrimp per pound they may be labeled either medium or large. Restaurants love to serve shrimp with tails on, even when served atop fettuccine Alfredo, but I find it awkward to disentangle the shrimp and discard the shells. Instead, choose raw frozen shrimp thats already peeled and deveined.

Skillet-seared shrimp is the fastest way to put this creamy pasta dish on the table. Use a large, wide-bottomed skillet to fit all of the shrimp in a single layer. Look for the shrimp to curl and turn from a silvery-gray hue to opaque and pink. Pile the shrimp onto a plate, and use the same skillet to make the Alfredo sauce.

Tips For Making This Shrimp Alfredo Recipe

  • In a hurry? Make the sauce, pasta, and shrimp at the same time. However, if you dont want to manage 3 pots at the same time, make the alfredo sauce first and keep it warm. Then cook the shrimp while your pasta boils and put everything together with the cooked pasta once its ready.
  • Prep your shrimp ahead of time. I buy raw deveined shrimp at the store, but they still need to have the shells and tails removed. This is an easy prep task you can do the morning or day before. Just store the cleaned shrimp in an airtight container in the fridge until youre ready to cook.
  • Dont use garlic powder! Fresh garlic is a must for the sauce! The flavor is as different as day and night. Trust me.
  • Ready to kick your alfredo up a notch? Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the pot before stirring the pasta and sauce together. This hint is fabulous!

Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo Ingredients

  • Shrimp Fresh or frozen and thawed out. I use large shrimp, peeled, deveined and with the tails off.
  • Butter To make Alfredo sauce, I prefer using unsalted butter so I have better control of the salt level. If you only have salted butter at home use it.
  • Garlic Fresh garlic is best however, you can use granulated garlic as well. Substitute the fresh garlic with 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • Heavy Cream You can use Half and Half or whole milk if you prefer but, heavy creams makes the creamiest, richest, most decadent Alfredo sauce.
  • Grated Nutmeg All you need is a pinch! Nutmeg adds wonderful flavor to any cream based sauce. Freshly grated nutmeg is best but I must admit, I always reach for the grated in a jar one just for convenience. If you dont have nutmeg at home, skip it!
  • Parmesan Cheese Nothing compares to freshly grated Parmesan cheese however, if you are short on time or would like to make this Alfredo recipe a bit more budget friendly, you can get pre-shredded Parmesan or grated Parmesan cheese . Keep in mind that grated Parmesan tends to make the sauce a bit grainy.
  • Parsley or Basil Fresh parsley or basil makes this creamy shrimp pasta pop! It adds freshness to this rich and creamy dish.
  • Pasta When it comes to pasta Alfredo, fettuccine seems to be the most classic noodle to use. However, you can use linguine or any short shape pasta like penne, fusilli or farfalle.

Whip up a homemade caesar salad and a fresh baguette to sop up all the sauce. You could also serve a copycat Olive Garden soup as an appetizer. The pot you use needs to be large enough to fit both the Alfredo sauce and the pasta, so choose accordingly. Heat the sauce over medium heat. Place the pan on a burner, turn the burner to medium, and let the sauce begin to heat. Stir it occasionally using a spatula or spoon to keep it from scorching on the bottom.

When you look at the pot of hot liquid leftover after cooking pasta, youll find it white and opaque. Those are the wheat starches that have been released into the water. When added to the creamy alfredo sauce, it can help thin it out and create a more velvety consistency. I always salt the water, so it will further season the sauce.
