Cilantro-lime mayonnaise: One of my favorite restaurants serves a tangy, creamy sauce with their yucca fries. I was thrilled when I discovered the chef posted the recipe online!

Bacon mayonnaise: Try this dipping sauce on your cheat day. Simply mix some bacon bits with some mayonnaise.

Peanut sauce: Make a basic peanut sauce by blending 1/3 cup of chunky peanut butter, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sriracha sauce, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, and some chicken broth or water to thin it out.

Sriracha-mayonnaise: I use this sauce on everything not just French fries. Mix desired amount of sriracha sauce with mayonnaise, depending on how spicy you like it. Add a pinch of sugar, if desired.

Spicy ketchup: Adding sriracha sauce to ketchup totally changes the flavor. The heat level is pretty intense, so start by adding a few drops of sriracha and go from there.

Curry mayonnaise: Eating fries with this dip makes me feel like Im on vacation in India, sampling some exotic street food. Mix curry powder with mayonnaise and add a pinch of sugar to sweeten it up.

Curry-honey glaze: If you like a little sweet with your salty, try this dip: Mix a teaspoon of curry powder with 1/4 cup of honey.

Switch Up Your Fry Dip Selections With These Eight Excellent Sauces

Chips That Pass in the Night: French Fry Sauce

Los Angeles burger lovers agree: The one at Father’s Office is incredible. No controversy there. But there is when it comes to chef-owner Sang Yoon’s long-standing no-ketchup policy. Instead of using everyone’s favorite tomato-based go-to, Yoon tops his amazing cheeseburger with a caramelized onion and bacon compote and serves his fries with aioli.

Though the rule has distressed some Angelenos for years, the ketchup ban recently inspired a photographic protest on Yelp. One Yelper posted a picture of a basket of sweet potato fries covered in ketchup and ketchup packets on the Father’s Office page, and is imploring other ketchup loving Yelpers to up-vote it to the point where it will automatically become the restaurant’s primary image.

We at Food & Wine support both Yoon’s right to ban condiments and fry-eaters’ right to want it. But we suggest that both parties switch up their fry dip selections with these eight excellent sauces.

Tips For The Perfect Sauce

  • I prefer to use ketchup thats made with real sugar versus high fructose corn syrup.
  • If youre looking to save a few calories, you can use light mayo instead of the full fat variety. Use a high quality brand of mayonnaise such as Best Foods, Hellmans or Dukes.
  • Smoked paprika can be found in the spice aisle of most grocery stores, and it adds a lot of great flavor to this dip. If you dont have it on hand, you can substitute regular paprika.
  • This sauce stays fresh in the fridge for up to 5 days. I dont recommend freezing this one, as it can separate and get watery when thawed.
  • Fry sauce also works as a condiment for hamburgers, hot dogs or chicken nuggets. It also makes a great dipping sauce for other fried foods.

Fry Dipping Sauce has been a staple in my life growing up in Utah. Ive heard legends that it was first created here in Utah at a burger place called Arctic Circle.

Pretty much every burger joint in Utah has had their own version of Fry Sauce for as long as I can remember. My favorite version has always been served at Hires Big H in Salt Lake City.

That has always been my favorite and has been the recipe that I have tried to replicate here. To me, the secret is the dill pickle juice that makes it tangy and amazing and taste just like Hires Fry Sauce!
