Farmers Market Tomato & Basil
This sauce is a classically-flavored sauce from Pregos healthier line, Farmers Market. Its made with real olive oil and without added sugars. Per the Prego website, Pregos Farmers Market Tomato and Basil sauce contains simply tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and various seasonings.
According to reviews on Walmart, many people feel this sauce tastes very similar to homemade sauces. Thats definitely a good thing. Some reviewers note that it is not too watery, but instead rather thick. We prefer thickker sauces for pasta, as they really add some flavor to each bite and coat the noodles. Many reviewers mention that this is their go-to pasta sauce. While some mention that the Prego Farmers Market Tomato & Basil sauce would make a great base for soup, they go on to mention that it has great flavor on its own. Because it does not contain added sugars, reviewers also mention that this sauce is not overly sweet.
How Do You Thicken Spaghetti Sauce
The best way to add some bulk to a watery pasta sauce is to add about 1/8-1/4 cup of starchy pasta water. If youve already strained the pasta, you can mix together a bit of cornstarch and water to create a slurry and add it to the sauce instead.

Is Prego Classic Pasta Sauce Gluten Free
Prego Farmers Market is a popular sauce that is owned and distributed by the Campbell Soup Company.
Prego makes a number of sauces and in this post, we will specifically be focusing on their classic range. At the time of writing the traditional pasta sauce is available in nineteen different flavours and counting.
So, youre probably wondering, does prego sauce have gluten in it?
Lets find out . . .
Lower Calorie Traditional Italian
The Prego Lower Calorie Traditional Italian sauce contains 45 calories and zero grams of fat per half cup serving, according to the companys website. Compared to their normal Traditional Italian variety, which contains 70 calories and 1.5 grams of fat per half cup serving, this is substantially healthier . This sauce has a strong tomato flavor.

Definitely Not My Favourite
This product does not add up to my expectations as I intended the sauce to be more luxurious and more cheese flavour added into it. I, however, do not favour the taste of the cheese that Prego used in this product as it tasted sour to me. The herbs are not that defined, however, adding your own blend of spices normally make the whole dish better. I normally add some herbs and extra garlic to flavour up my carbonara even more. Some smoked ham and sausages work well with combating the taste too.
The Difference Between Ragu And Bolognese
Ragu depending on where you are in the world is a meat-based sauce usually consisting of finely chopped vegetables, ground meat and cooked in a liquid such as wine, tomatoes or stock.
Bolognese on the other hand actually means something originating from Bologna, Emilia Romagna and their classic ragu alla bolognese has been a little lost in translation over the years.
Its very similar to this one although is often made with white wine and sometimes milk which is thought to tenderise the meat.
Its also traditionally served with tagliatelle pasta and never spaghetti which is why youll hear Italians say that Spaghetti Bolognese doesnt exist.

The Case Against Added Sugar In Your Spaghetti Sauce
Ingredients on nutrition labels are listed by how much of it is in the product. So in this case, theres more tomato paste than anything else in Prego Traditional Sauce. And thats good. We want to see tomatoes, or at least a tomato product at the top of the list. But its where the sugar lands on that ingredient list thats problematic.
Generally speaking, the top 4 ingredients listed make up the greatest volume of the product which means theres way too much added sugar in this supposedly healthy sauce.
Want to get specific? Look at the rest of the nutritional label. There are 10 grams of sugar per ½ cup serving. So if you only eat half a cup of sauce over your pasta, youre automatically getting 10 grams of sugar.
But the daily recommended limits of sugar are in teaspoons. Women are only supposed to consume 6 teaspoons of added sugar per day and men are only supposed to get 9.
How many people really understand how many grams of sugar equal how many teaspoons? Not most folks. In fact, even we had to look it up.
Turns out, there are 4 grams of sugar in a single teaspoon. So, for women, a half-cup serving of so-called heart healthy Prego Traditional Spaghetti Sauce has almost half of the recommended daily intake of! And that same serving gets a man 1/3 of the way there for his daily sugar intake.
What Is The Best Tasting Store
There are many store-bought Alfredo sauces of good quality and excellent flavors at the store. But theres no guarantee that all of them will suit your needs. They all vary in price, taste and have different ingredients, so it can be hard to pick the right one especially if there are so many options to chose from.
For you to find what you really like, you will have to choose it out for yourself because everyone has their own tastes, but that doesnt mean that we cant give you some pointers and recommendations.

Tomato Basil Garlic Italian
Pregos Tomato Basil Garlic Italian is a very traditional red sauce flavor containing ingredients including tomato, basil, and garlic.
According to reviews on Walmart, out of 902 reviews, the average rating of this sauce is 4.7 out of 5. Not bad! Overall, this sauce is well loved. Some reviewers note that this sauce is not their favorite of Pregos varieties. They also mention, again, that this sauce serves as a good base for your own doctoring up, requiring some flavor add-ins such as herbs, spices, and vegetables. If we are being honest, this is probably the sauce we most frequently purchase because of its versatility. However, because this is a true ranking of the various Prego sauces and their taste, this one is not super unique or all that special. Its a very basic sauce, but that can be exactly what you are looking for. Because of this, this sauce is placed at the middle of our list.

How To Serve Alfredo Sauce
My husband and I like fettuccini Alfredo. Since I have a gluten sensitivity, I get fettuccini pasta thats gluten-free.
You can serve this however you like, but Ive found this to be the best way to serve this easy recipe.
After cooking the pasta and putting it on the plate or in the bowl, I scoop some pasta sauce over it. Then I top it with parmesan or a blend of parmesan and Romano.
Its always good to enjoy any pasta dish with a side salad or steamed vegetable. My husband also enjoys a slice of crusty Italian bread with butter.

An Easy Weeknight Pasta Thats Just Rich Enough
This quick and easy dinner is inspired by penne alla vodka, but made simpler with fewer ingredients namely, the vodka. I assure you, it wont be missed, and the omission makes it more kid-friendly.
Instead, this pasta sauce is just four ingredients: onion, garlic, a can of crushed tomatoes, and cream. That last ingredient is what makes the sauce extra special, but its not poured with a heavy hand. A generous splash is really all you need to add richness to the sauce without making this dinner feel too indulgent. The result is a comforting pasta dinner that will likely become a habit throughout these chilly winter months.
Chunky Tomato Onion And Garlic
The ingredients list on the Prego website says that Chunky Tomato, Onion, and Garlic contains big chunks of diced tomatoes as well as onion extract and garlic extract. If you are looking for a chunky pasta sauce, Prego has many options under its Garden Chunky line. We love a good chunky vegetable pasta sauce to add flavor and texture to the noodles. If you dont like chunks of vegetables in your pasta sauce, but instead prefer a pureed sauce, this line might not be for you, but it might disappoint those looking for chunks as well.
According to reviews on Amazon, some people find that this particular sauce is not chunky at all, but instead surprisingly thin. Another reviewer notes that it serves as a good base for a pasta sauce, but you need to add meat and vegetables to it. Again, we arent fans of being required to add some oomph to the sauce we just bought. Otherwise, we would choose to make a homemade sauce. This jars simple flavor may appeal to some, but in our opinion, its nothing special.

Are Ragu Sauces Healthy
Overall, Ragu is not a healthy choice. A few of their more simplistic sauces containing minimal ingredients are healthy, but the rest are not.
To start, soybean oil is a prevalent ingredient among the sauces. But, unfortunately, this oil is very high in omega-6 fats, which can cause adverse health side effects when consumed too often. Among these are obesity, diabetes, and depression.
As for calories, the number per serving tends to be high and can add up quickly. Many of the sauces are high in sugar, as well. Some of the flavors contain added sugar, while others only have natural sugars.

Plant Protein Traditional Italian
Pregos Plant Protein Traditional Italian sauce is another plant-based protein packed red sauce. According to Prego, this sauce contains plant-based protein made from pea protein isolate instead of soy. This is a great option for those that are allergic to soy or otherwise avoid it. Pea protein is another type of vegetarian protein that has grown in popularity over the years, and its quite versatile.
In addition to pea protein, this sauce is blended with tomatoes, creating a smooth sauce with no evidence of added protein. While the chunks of soy-based protein in the previous entry arent bad, they do still taste like fake meat, so the completely hidden protein in this jar gives it the edge. Maybe you are trying to increase you or your picky eaters protein intake but dont like the taste of chunks of meat in your sauce. If so, this is the sauce for you.
