Lets Change Your Life With This Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

The basic sauce, minus the meat and mushrooms is the same as that canned sauce. If youre not a meat eateryou dont have to put the meat in this sauce.

It makes a beautiful without meat too. So lets get started.

In a large skillet add 4 Tablespoons of Olive Oil. Over medium heat add 2 teaspoons of minced garlic.

Sauté garlic for 1-2 minutes. Add one pound of lean ground beef and two cups of sliced mushrooms and cook until meat is brown.

Do not drain cooked meat. We want that oil in the sauce.

Add 1 cup of water, 1 8 oz. can tomato sauce, 1 16 oz. can petite diced tomatoes, 1 6 oz. can tomato paste.

In all seriousness if you are not adding meat just add the above and continue to follow the recipe. I do this all the time and it turns out beautifully!

Although truthfully if I placed a plate of spaghetti in front of Mr. Nest with no meat hed look at me like Id just lost my last screw. lol

Add 1/2 1 Tablespoons sugar. It depends on how sweet you want the sauce.

TIP: This helps cut down on the acidity of the tomatoes. This is one of those little secrets I mentioned above.

Add 1 teaspoon oregano, 1 teaspoon of crushed rosemary, 1/4 tsp. onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon coarse black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/8 tsp. red pepper flakes , and two bay leaves.

Add 1 Tablespoon dried parsley, or 1 1/2 Tablespoons fresh parsley.

As the day ticks away the house will begin to fill with the most amazing scent!

Remove the bay leaves before serving.

How To Make Spaghetti Sauce With Meat

The instructions are really quite simple. Here we go

1. Brown the ground beef with some onions and garlic. You may do this altogether or brown the meat first and then add the onions and garlic. I tend to cook the ground beef first, then add the onions and then the garlic, but knowing my grandma and my dad, I can guarantee that they just threw it all in there and cooked it together.

2. Throw in the tomato stuff with all the spices. Yes, these were the actual instructions .

3. Add some water if the sauce is too thick and bring it to a boil. Youll notice that theres quite a bit of tomato paste in this recipe. You will need some water. How much will depend on how thick vs watery you prefer your spaghetti sauce.

4. Turn down to a simmer. Add the sausage. Yep, add the raw sausage right in there. My dad always cut his sausage into thirds.

5. Simmer for 45 minutes to an hour. You could squeeze by with less time, technically. Just make sure your sausage is completely cooked.

6. Adjust spices to taste. If using hot sausage, use fewer pepper flakes.

    Doctored Up Spaghetti Sauce

Classic Spaghetti and Meat Sauce | Meat Sauce Recipe | The simple way

Doctored up Spaghetti Sauce is something that I make almost every single week! It starts with any ol jar of store-bought spaghetti sauce and turns it into a hearty meat sauce and can be used in so many different recipes.

Everyone can admit that a red sauce is always better after it sits for a couple days. Using a jar of sauce just gives the meat sauce that simmered-all-day taste.

    How To Freeze Meat Sauce:

Meat sauce will last in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To store it longer, transfer meat sauce to a freezer-safe container, leaving just a slight amount of headroom at the top. We prefer freezing meat sauce in freezer ziploc bags because it lays flat in the freezer and can be quick-thawed under running water.

How To Doctor Up A Jar Of Spaghetti Sauce:

It starts with adding veggies and ground beef. Onion, bell pepper, and garlic add so much flavor! I start a lot of my dishes with this veggie combo for good reason!

I add the vegetables in at the same time as the meat and cook everything together. It flavors the meat and saves on time as well. We usually use ground beef but you can use any combination below.

    Can You Freeze This

Yes! I recommend freezing the sauce + meat combination on its own, and making a new batch of noodles when you want to reheat your sauce. Why? Youll get more than double the freezer life if you freeze only the meat sauce, sans noodles.

Freezing noodles rapidly breaks down the structure of the pasta. Typical frozen spaghetti will last for up to two months while just the meat sauce will be good in an airtight container for up to six months. Plus, when you thaw the frozen noodles + sauce, your pasta will often be mushy while the flavor will still be good, the texture is definitely not.

So keep your meat sauce separate if youre planning to freeze!

How to Make Spaghetti Sauce with Ground Beef | Beef Recipes | Allrecipes.com

This was one of my favorite meals growing up. So simple and so satisfying, my dad would make it for us whenever he found a coupon for spaghetti sauce or tomato sauce in the Sunday paper . For us, this translated to spaghetti night roughly once a week.

My dad learned how to make this extra meaty spaghetti sauce from my grandmother, and now, here I am sharing it with you.

Just like my dads cream of mushroom pork chops, I doubt theres anything super original about this recipe. My grandmother probably found her recipe on the back of a can or in one of her cookbooks and modified it a little bit each time she made it. Its delicious and yes, kiddos love it

There are two kinds of meat ground beef and Italian pork sausage. I highly recommend adding both. The ground beef gives the sauce a great chunky texture, while the sausage is, well, completely delicious.

My mother made a penne pasta dish the other night that took everyone by surprise.

My skinny-as-a-spatula 10-year old nephew who won’t eat anything ate this penne pasta with gusto and asked for more. My carb-avoiding sister couldn’t resist it. My father declared it a triumph!

Later that night, Dad had my mom recount to him exactly what she did to make this particular penne pasta dish. Thank goodness, because experience has shown that my mother’s memory for recipes has a half-life of only a few hours.

Sure enough, when we asked her to make it again a few days later she had a hard time recalling the details. Diligent Dad supplied a few notes and it all came back to her.
