What Is Teriyaki And How To Cook Tasty Teriyaki Recipes

Teriyaki is a cooking technique in Japan where foods are grilled with a glaze made from soy sauce, sugar and rice wine. The sweet-savoury taste of teriyaki has become very popular flavour in the UK so Kikkoman has made it easy to make tasty teriyaki stir fries at home with two delicious Teriyaki Stir Fry Sauces.

Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce with Roasted Garlic and Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce with Toasted Sesamecan both be used as a quick and convenient cooking sauce for stir-fries, but you can also use them as a marinade or glaze for barbecued or grilled food.

When making a stir fry, simply add a generous glug to the wok or frying pan at the last minute and allow the sauce to caramelise to a sticky glaze. That is it nothing else is needed. And for barbecues and grills, brush on the teriyaki sauce as the food cooks for a shiny glaze. Easy!

Keep a bottle in the kitchen so youll have a teriyaki taste sensation at your fingertips anytime.

Store Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce In A Freezer

Is freezing Teriyaki Sauce even a thing? is probably what youre thinking right now. Well, in the case of the store-bought sauce it is not. But if you want to store your homemade Teriyaki Sauce you can, with just a few tricks.

Its important to point out that freezing doesnt work well for all homemade Teriyaki Sauces. Depending on the texture, they might not freeze well. So, try freezing a small amount first.

If it freezes well, use an ice cube tray to freeze large batches of sauce. Once the cubes are frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag.

For freezing larger amounts, freeze the Teriyaki Sauce in a small container or even a muffin tin.

What To Serve With Chicken Teriyaki

Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce

Rice: I like to use my rice cooker to cook brown rice or white rice to add to the bowl. I start the rice before I cook the chicken because it takes about 20 minutes.

You can also cook the rice on the stove or in an Instant Pot. Or you can use frozen rice and warm it up in the microwave to make it even easier. If you want your rice to have a little flavor, mix it with some soy sauce and a splash of rice vinegar.

Or, for an even healthier twist, swap traditional rice with cauliflower rice. Quinoa would also work well.

Noodles: I prefer rice, but you could also pair your chicken teriyaki with some Asian-style noodles.

Vegetables: I like to serve the bowl with steamed broccoli and julienned carrots. Cutting the carrots this way makes them look like sticks, but you can also slice them into coins and steam them that way. You might like to try other veggies like steamed diced onion, bell peppers, or cooked mushrooms, too.

Garnishes: Some sliced green onions are great for a topping. You can also sprinkle some sesame seeds over the top of the dish for some crunch. A drizzle of sesame oil is nice, too.

I like to make this teriyaki chicken bowl recipe when I’m craving take-out because it’s a lot lighter and healthier, but it has all of the flavors to satisfy the craving. Plus, it’s ready in the time it takes to order and pick up take-out, making it great for weeknight dinners.

For the sauce, I skip homemade teriyaki sauce and buy it bottled. It tastes just as good and is so much easier. I keep it on hand because it’s great for this dish, and I use it as a marinade for grilled steak kabobs and chicken.

    Common Questions You May Have

How long will this teriyaki sauce keep? If you store it in an airtight jar or container it will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. After that the garlic and ginger change the texture of the sauce and its not nearly as pleasant.

Can I marinate my chicken, beef, or pork in this sauce? You can easily marinate your meats in this sauce. Bear in mind if you are grilling or sauteing the sugar will caramelize when in contact with the sauce so youll want to be there to avoid any burning. Turning the temperature down or moving the meat off to the side can help too.

Whats the best way to use Asian Sauce on Salmon? I suggest cooking the salmon in a little olive oil, salt and pepper then in the last 5 minutes of cooking brush the sauce on. I love flaky salmon, with a sweet sticky sauce, that caramelizes just right.

Hawaiian Teriyaki Sauce If Im making something, I usually opt to have hints of Hawaiian style teriyaki. In which case Ill use my Huli Huli Teriyaki BBQ recipe. If you dont want to whip that together you could make a pared-down version by adding ¼ cup pineapple juice instead of the amount of water listed to make the slurry. Making the slurry with the cornstarch and pineapple will give you a definite Hawaiian feeling!

Stir Fry Teriyaki Marinade Use the exact same recipe except dont add the slurry to the sauce right away. You can marinate the meat in a small amount of the marinade minus the slurry for a minimum of 30 minutes. Then Youll Saute/Stir fry your vegetables and meats then add the rest of the marinade and cook until its just about ready. Right before serving it, youll add the slurry to thicken up the marinade.

By Step Instructions To Make Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce

    Step 1

In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients, except water and cornstarch, and heat over medium heat. Stir vigorously until the sugar dissolves and the Teriyaki Sauce is evenly combined.

    Step 2

Pour the water and cornstarch into a small bowl and stir to combine. This prevents cornstarch lumps from forming. Add 3 tablespoons of Teriyaki Sauce to the cornstarch mixture. Mix well.

    Step 3

Combine the ingredients in the bowl, then add them to the saucepan, whisk, and heat until the sauce thickens.

    Step 4

Be aware that the sauce can simmer very quickly, so be ready to reduce the heat at any time. Depending on the size of the saucepan youre using, it might take from 5-10 minutes. When the sauce reaches the right thickness, set it aside to cool.

    Step 5

Pour it into a bottle or an airtight container once cooled and serve it with grilled or fried vegetables and meat. You will never taste anything like them!
