A Healthy Alternative 7 Sugar

Lillies Q bbq sauces review | Chicago & Florida best bbq?

I have a confession. Im addicted to barbecue meats and the sauce must come correct or dont come at all. I have tried a lot of sauces in the past and these days, I am searching for ones without added sugar to lower my daily sugar intake. I came up with seven tasty selections.

So, lets kick off summer with my reviews and rankings of sugar-free BBQ sauces. I am featuring seven store-bought products that are available at major grocery chains or on Amazon and range in price from about $5 to $12.

Focusing mainly on original flavors to keep it simple, I ate a dollop of each from a spoon and evaluated each based on the smell, thickness and taste. I fancied all the condiments individually however, next to their competitors, however, some fell short with my assistant agreeing for the most part.

Browse the list below and pick one or more to try and enjoy your own taste test at home.

  • Lillies Q Zero Sugar Carolina
  • This tomato-based discovery features everything a sauce should have, a sweet-spicy balance with a tang. It comes out of the bottle nice and slowly. Dont let the acidic vinegar fumes fool you. This liquid gold is smooth and it rests gently on the tongue. The sucralose, a sugar substitute and molasses only add a trivial amount of sugar. I must say Im pleasantly surprised how much I like this one.

Really, the sky is the limit. My favorite way to serve this Carolina Gold Mustard BBQ Sauce is on these Pressure Cooker Boneless Beef Ribs, but it’s also phenomenal on shredded chicken, pork, and beef. This is a fantastic way to dress up basic grilled chicken and I have a suspicion it would be brilliant on burgers and brats too!

What Type Of Mustard Is Best To Use

    Lillie

If you’ve ever made it through my 375 word super long spiel on the various types of mustard in this post, you’ll know I am a particularly huge fan of the condiment. Though I use Dijon in many of my recipes, I find that a classic yellow mustard is the best option for this bbq sauce. The mild spice and vinegary flavor of classic mustard provides an excellent base for this bbq sauce and gives it it’s signature golden-hue.

Barbecue sauce is a serious and highly debatable topic. Depending on which BBQ enthusiast you ask, the best barbecue sauce can range from vinegary Carolina-style to thick and a little sweet, like youd find in Kansas City. Of course, it all comes down to personal preference, but no matter which style is your favorite, one thing most people can agree on is that the right sauce can elevate everything from ribs to chicken to tofu. In an ideal world, youd be able to make your barbecue sauce from scratch every time, but bottled barbecue sauces have come a long way .

With clean ingredients and that bold barbecue-y taste youre looking for, these are the best barbecue sauces you can find on the shelves.

    • Balance of sweet and heat

    • Gluten-free

    • A little acidic

    • Can be overly thick

The Rufus Teague Touch O Heat BBQ Sauce has all of the things that make barbecue sauce great: Its thick with a little bit of smokiness and slightly sweet with just the right amount of heat without being overpowering. Reminiscent of its origin, the barbecue sauce is also unique in that it comes in a whiskey bottle.

    Lillies Q Smoky Barbeque Sauce

This low carb and Keto recipe uses common ingredients most of which you probably have in your kitchen right now.

When I made my sugar free ketchup, I used tinned tomatoes. This meant I needed to reduce liquid to get the right consistency.

For this sugar free barbecue sauce I decided to use tomato passata. It’s already quite thick so your sauce is literally ready in 5 minutes.

How To Thicken Carolina Bbq Sauce

While this Carolina barbecue sauce has plenty of texture, there are ways to thicken the sauce without affecting the flavor if desired!

    • To naturally thicken sauce Allow the sauce to simmer for a longer period of time than the 15-18 minutes stated in the recipe.
    • Add a slurry Mix one tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and add it to the sauce. Make sure you whisk the cornstarch mixture into the sauce and allow the barbeque sauce to cook over a rapid simmer until the sauce has thickened.

The Origins Of Carolina Gold Mustard Bbq Sauce

After 5-minutes of “very careful and arduous” research, I’m inclined to believe this Eater article that claims that we owe the invention of mustard-based bbq sauce to German immigrants settling in South Carolina. After arriving the first iteration of this delicious sauce was born and dubbed ‘Carolina Gold.’

    Bbq Sauce Carolina Styles

    Barbecue Sauce at Harris Teeter

American barbeque is all about low and slow cooked proteins and complimentary, signature sauces. Most regions have their own style of barbeque sauce, ranging from thick and tomato-based to thinner and vinegar-based.

There are three BBQ sauces specific to the Carolinas:

    • Eastern North Carolina Vinegar BBQ Sauce Traditional vinegar sauce contains no tomato products, and instead uses a tart combination of vinegar, hot sauce, and spices. Vinegar BBQ sauce is much thinner in consistency than traditional BBQ sauce. Tangy and spicy in taste, this sauce perfectly complements the smokiness of barbequed pork.
    • South Carolina Mustard BBQ Sauce Traditional mustard sauce, also known as Carolina Gold, contains a mixture of both yellow mustard and vinegar as well as seasonings. Mustard BBQ sauce is rich, tangy and zingy in flavor which pairs well sweet and smoky pulled pork.
    • Western North Carolina Also known as Lexington-style or Piedmont, this sauce is vinegar based and seasoned with ketchup, red pepper flakes, brown sugar, granulated sugar and spices. Western Carolina sauce is slightly sweeter in taste and pairs well with pork shoulder!

This Carolina-style BBQ sauce recipe is a delicious combination that pays homage to all three of the above BBQ sauces!
