How To Make Barbecue Wings On A Blackstone Griddle

Almost Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce ~ Homemade BBQ Sauce Recipe ~ Noreen’s Kitchen

If you are lucky enough to have a deep fryer attached to your griddle, then preheat to 375°F. I am not one of those lucky ones, so I deep fry on the flat top griddle.

Heat your Blackstone flat top griddle on medium high heat. Put a disposable aluminum foil pan or a restaurant quality pan on the griddle. Fill the pan with your desired deep-fry oil and heat to 375°F.

Make sure to use a digital thermometer to keep track of the temperature. To help heat the oil faster, cover the pan with a dome lid.

Cut the chicken wings into a drum, flat and tip pieces. Dispose of the tips. Season the chicken wings with seasoned salt and pepper, then put in a plastic storage bag with Drakes Crispy Frymix.

Working in batches, shake the bag to coat the wings in a thin layer of fry mix. Remove the chicken wing pieces from the bag and tap each piece to remove excess fry mix.

Grilled baby back ribs get the star treatment in this recipe from chef Deborah VanTrece, cookbook author and chef of Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours in Atlanta, GA. Her recipes are soul food with a twist, inspired by foods from all over the world, and today she’s going back to her roots in Kansas City, Missouri. “In Kansas City, we believe it’s not a good rib unless you can eat it without sauce,” says Deborah. “So, these are going to be tasty on their own and the sauce is just icing on the cake.” You’ll want these on repeat all summer long!

How To Barbecue Chicken In The Oven

For this BBQ chicken in the oven recipe, you need chicken on the bone, milk, hot sauce, salt and pepper, grapeseed oil, chili powder and Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce. Thats it. Just 6 ingredients.

Start by seasoning the chicken pieces all over with salt and pepper. Set these aside in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. Then, in a large bowl, make a milk bath by combining whole milk with Sriracha sauce . Put the chicken into the milk bath and marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight. You can use any chili sauce that you like. Tabasco would also be a good choice.

Preheat an oven to 400 degrees.

Remove the chicken from the marinade and pat dry with paper towels. Brush grapeseed oil onto a baking pan and lay the chicken out skin side up. Season the pieces all over with a light dusting of chili powder.

Leave the chicken parts skin side down onto the baking pan. Put the tray of chicken into the oven and roast them for 25 minutes.

Remove the chicken from the oven and lightly brush the chicken with Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce. Turn the poultry over and now brush the skin side of the chicken with more barbecue sauce. Put the pieces back in the oven for 10 minutes.

Sweet Baby Rays Pulled Pork Chow Down

Copycat Sweet Baby Ray

This recipe is sponsored by Sweet Baby Rays Barbecue Sauce, though all opinions are mine alone.

When Sweet Baby Rays asks if you could create a game day recipe using their sauce you say HECK YES!

The recipe I created is Sweet Baby Rays Pulled Pork Chow Down. I am a huge Sweet Baby Rays Fan, but most people know this already. The crockpot and Sweet Babys Rays are best friends. You can put this sauce on just about any meat in your crockpot and it turns out incredible.

Are you ready for this recipe? This isnt your typical game day recipe, this is like the mother of all game day recipes. I seasoned a pork shoulder, seared it, and placed it in my slow cooker. I added Sweet Baby Rays Barbecue Sauce, apple cider, onion, cilantro and jalapeño .

I cooked this pork for 8 hours on LOW. I then shredded it up with two forks, right in the sauce. I cooked up a double batch of cornbread in the oven in a 9×13 pan. I served the Sweet Baby Rays Pulled Pork over the cut pieces of cornbread, topped with more sauce, sour cream, cheese, onion, jalapeño, and some cilantro for garnish. Your guests wont be expecting such an awesome game-day meal. This meal reminds me of grub you would get off of a food truck!

Despite All The Flavors Sweet Baby Ray’s Has Two Main Sellers

The Raymonds may have made their name and fortune in barbecue sauce, but Dave Raymond has one major piece of advice for anyone who is considering a run at doing the same: don’t. Intense competition means competing for shelf space with big brands, which involves creating new flavors despite the majority of sales coming from the basic flavors.

Raymond told the Food Republic in 2012 that the only two flavors that sell well nationally are Original and Sweet & Spicy. Everything else whether it’s put out by Sweet Baby Ray’s or other large producers like Kraft or KC Masterpiece are done in an effort to take up retail shelf space. Keeping the shelf space and plotting ways to get more of it is front of mind for sauce brand owners.

The strong showing for the Original and Sweet & Spicy flavors makes sense. Sweet barbecue sauce is among the fastest-growing flavors, according to the restaurant industry magazine Restaurant Business, which analyzed mentions on restaurant menus. It landed at number seven in the fastest-growing just ahead of Alabama white sauce and behind honey barbecue flavor. The fastest-growing sauce mentioned on restaurant menus was sweet and tangy.

“If you like making sauce, don’t get into the sauce business,” Raymond told Food Republic. “You have to wear too many hats to actually cook anymore.”

How To Make Bbq Pineapple Chicken

2. Put the chicken and onion in a crockpot and pour the sauce over it. Cook on high for 4-6 hours.

6. Once it is done, place a heaping spoonful on a bun and top with coleslaw.

7. Ready to serve!

Sweet Baby Rays Barbecue Sauce

If youre addicted to sweets, go with Sweet Baby Rays. Its not particularly good, mind you, but at least it doesnt pretend to be something its not. Instead of attempting to mask or balance the sweetness, this sauce doubles down on it by combining high fructose corn syrup, molasses, regular corn syrup, white sugar, and pineapple juice concentrate. Honestly, the pineapple flavoring is a quite interesting addition that makes this barbecue sauce unique. If you like your barbecue sauce really, really sweet, you wont be too disappointed by this brand.

However, not only is Sweet Baby Rays Barbecue Sauce incredibly sweet, it also uses sodium benzoate as a preservative. Sodium benzoate may be linked to everything from ADHD, to obesity, allergies, and even cancer. So, if youre not concerned with that additive , and youre looking to add some exceedingly sweet barbecue sauce to your dinner plate, youve found the holy grail.

    Sweet Baby Rays Bbq Sauce

Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce is a sweet, mild, thick sauce that coats a deep-fried chicken wing just right. For a thick coating of wing sauce on your wings, use 100% Sweet Baby Rays Original sauce.

I like a thinner coating on my chicken wings, so I place the Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce into the mixing bowl and then I add a splash of hot water. Mix barbecue sauce to combine and adjust any of the ingredients to achieve your desired thickness.

Add the freshly deep-fried chicken wing pieces in the bowl and toss to coat. Its that easy and it tastes incredible!

No cooking, no testing, and no fussing with making your own BBQ sauce. Sweet Baby Rays has you covered! This is one reason that these have become one of my familys favorite wings.

This sauce is literally defined as finger licking good. It really makes me clean up the sauce every time. This is one of my favorite wings sauces!

BBQ is an important flavoring element. I have tried many BBQ sauces, but I love this one the best. Im NOT sponsored by Sweet Baby Ray and the opinions are my own!

Though we like mild wings, its an excellent barbecue option because its sweet and tangy sauce gives wings so much flavor.

How To Deep Fry Barbeque Wings

You will want to work in batches. Depending on the amount of deep-frying oil you have, place about 10 pieces of chicken wings into the fry mix powder bag and shake to coat chicken drumsticks and flats with a thin layer.

Tap the wing pieces to remove any excess fry mix, then carefully drop the wings into the hot deep fry oil. Cook your chicken wing pieces for anywhere from 6-10 minutes, depending on the size of the wings and how cold they were when you put them into the oil.

Make sure to maintain a 375°F oil temperature consistency throughout the cooking process. Do you know how to tell when chicken wing pieces are cooked?

Fried chicken wings will be golden brown on the outside, and they will start to float on top of the hot oil when theyre fully cooked. You can also use a digital thermometer to check the temperature of the cooked wings they should be 165°F in the thickest part next to the bone.

Remove chicken wings from the hot deep fry oil with a metal slotted spoon. Place them on a paper towel-lined tray to help soak up the excess oil. Continue the cooking process with the rest of the chicken wings until theyre all done.

The Founder Went On To Start Another Barbecue Business Under The Sweet Baby Ray’s Name

While Sweet Baby Ray the person may no longer be involved with Sweet Baby Ray’s the sauce, he still can capitalize on the name recognition. As part of the terms of the sale to Ken’s Foods, Raymond kept the rights to the Sweet Baby Ray’s name, and he used it to start a catering company and a restaurant.

In 2005, the same year of the sale, Raymond opened a barbecue restaurant in Wood Dale, just outside of Chicago. Then he purchased True Cuisine Catering in 2010 to go along with Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue catering company. Duce Raymond, who is in business with Dave, added in his line of barbecue sauces: Duce’s Wild BBQ Sauces. Combined, the businesses are called SBR Events Group, Duce Raymond explained to Chi Thee Wed.

The old and new Sweet Baby Ray’s businesses are still deeply intertwined. SBR Events Group promotes its use of Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce along with Duce’s Wild BBQ Sauces. The restaurant in Wood Dale also has ten Sweet Baby Ray’s house barbecue sauces exclusive to the location. The restaurant’s website nods to Dave Raymond’s former sauce business, though it leaves Larry, the original sauce recipe creator, out of it and instead mentions how Dave “and his friend and partner Mike O’Brien went on to build the most popular barbecue sauce brand in history.”

    Kc Masterpiece Original Bbq Sauce

Another of the budget options on your grocers shelves is KC Masterpiece Original BBQ Sauce. And just like Krafts concoction, this stuff is absolutely awful. KC Masterpiece attempts to use hickory smoke flavor to balance its sickly sweetness, and the result is an overpowering taste of mediocrity. If you make the mistake of adding it to meat of any kind, this sauce is all you will taste. However, some people do make cookies with it hows that for a testament to how sweet it is?

Additionally, KC Masterpiece Original BBQ sauce has a chemical aftertaste, which is definitely not the taste you want in your mouth after an evening spent slaving over a hot grill.

Dont be fooled by the Hickory Brown Sugar version that KC Masterpiece also markets. It tastes almost exactly the same as their original sauce with just a tiny hint of the existence of brown sugar.

How To Make Just Like Sweet Baby Rays Bbq Sauce:

  • Combine the ingredients: I like to add all the ingredients in a medium saucepan along with a big splash of water and whisk until smooth.
  • Bring to a boil: Place the saucepan over the stove and allow the sauce to start bubbling before you lower the heat and continue to let it simmer for 5-7 minutes. The longer you simmer, the thicker the sauce will be. Dont panic if it isnt super thickened by the end of the cooking time. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Serve: Brush the prepared sauce on meats or poultry while youre grilling. Use as a sauce on my bbq chicken pizza or in dips and dressings!

Rufus Teague Honey Sweet Bbq Sauce

According to the label, Rufus Teague made some barbecue sauce, put it in a jar, and shared it with his boys. It was so good, his boys pestered him until he made another batch. And from there, this sauce spread from Kansas City to the rest of the country. Give Rufus Teague Honey Sweet BBQ Sauce a taste and you too will be hankering for more once you run out.

Most barbecue sauces that try to incorporate honey are failures but this one is a home run. It has a sweet taste but the sweetness has depth due to the perfect mix of honey, brown sugar, white sugar, molasses, orange juice concentrate, and raisin paste. Its like an orchestra of heavenly nectar that everyone with a sweet tooth can enjoy.

The label also says Rufus Teague Honey Sweet BBQ Sauce is damn good. If two words were needed to describe this sauce, those were two wisely chosen words. Its impossible to disagree.
