Step 1 Make The Dressing

Mix mayo, diced pickles, mustard, vinegar, onion, paprika, and Swerve. Set aside while you get the other ingredients together. Set aside while you get the other ingredients together.

Burger Instructions

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, season with salt, and chill until ready to use.

To make patties, season the mince with salt and pepper and form into 4 balls using about 1/3 cup mince each.

Place each on baking paper and flatten to form four x 15cm circles. Heat bbq or oil in a large frypan over high heat.

In 2 batches, cook beef patties for 1-2 minutes on each side until lightly charred and cooked through. Remove from heat and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining two patties.

Carefully slice each burger bun into three sections, then lightly toast.

To assemble the burgers, spread Big Mac sauce over the bottom bun. Top with some chopped onion, shredded lettuce, a slice of cheese, beef patty, and some pickle slices.

Top with the middle bun layer. Next, spread with more Big Mac sauce, onion, lettuce, pickles, beef patty, and finish with more sauce. Top with burger lid and serve immediately.

McDonalds has been preparing to sell its Big Mac Sauce in grocery stores since last year. In September 2016, the company filed a trademark registration for Mac Sauce and in January this year it gave away 10,000 bottles of Big Mac Special Sauce in the U.S. as part of a product promotion. Earlier in 2016, the company released 4,000 bottles of its sauce in Australia as a small retail trial. However, the company now appears to be getting serious about selling its sauces in stores. McDonalds recently announced that its Big Mac, McChicken, and Filet-O-Fish sauces will be sold in grocery stores across Canada, starting this spring. Several restaurants sell their products in grocery stores, and McDonalds is joining the club in an attempt to generate an additional source of revenue. The company will be working with Kraftz Heinz to create this product. As the market for condiment sauces continues to grow at a steady rate and demand for McDonalds products remains high, entering the retail condiment market could generate a fairly substantial revenue stream for the company.

The Birth Of The Big Mac

The Big Mac was first cooked back in 1967 by a franchisee in Pittsburgh named Jim Delligatti. At first, he only served the creation at his restaurants, but the burgers popularity quickly grew.

Within a year, the Big Mac began popping up on McDonalds menu boards across the region and then the country.

In the early days, the Big Mac sauce recipe varied amongst different parts of the US, and it wasnt until 1972 that McDonalds standardized the recipe.

Two years later, the famous jingle was first released, and the rest is the stuff of fast-food legend.

The Story Of The Big Mac Special Sauce

When McDonalds franchise owner Jim Delligatti first came up with his double patty, triple bun creation in 1967, he needed the perfect sauce to top it off. By 1968, the Big Mac® was launched nationally, and featured this delicious, creamy signature Big Mac® Special Sauce.

Over the next few years, the Big Mac Sauce ingredients were fine-tuned, and there were two different versions of the McDonalds Special Sauce being used. To eliminate inconsistency, a single recipe was developed that satisfied customers who had a taste for either one. This became Big Mac® Sauce recipe 72.

In 1974, the name Special Sauce was used in the famous advertising campaign: “Two all-beef patties, Special Sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

The recipe was again tweaked in 1991 and remained that way until 2004 when Fred Turner, who had worked alongside founder Ray Kroc, wanted it changed back.

After tracking down the original formula in the McDonalds archives, Turner contacted the supplier who had helped develop the McDonalds Special Sauce years ago, and the McDonalds Special Sauce recipe was returned.

How To Make A Homemade Big Mac

Once you craft your own Special Sauce, you are well on your way to earning your children’s undying love and affection by making them homemade Big Macs! You will want to brush up on my fast food burger recipe to really hit these out of the park. Though I have been known to slather this sauce on larger homemade burger patties too!

To make McDonald’s Big Mac, lightly toast a sesame seed bun, and grab an extra bottom bun to use as the middle piece. Spread the special sauce on the bottom bun, sprinkle with diced onion, shredded lettuce, and top with a slice of American cheese. Place one burger patty on the cheese, then add the middle bun, top with more sauce, lettuce, and add pickles. Finally add the second burger patty, top with the crown of the bun and enjoy!

Big Mac Mcchicken And Filet

Canadians in love with McDonald’s Big Mac sauce will no longer have to try to whip it up themselves, because containers of the stuff will soon pop up on store shelves.

McDonald’s Canada confirmed to The Huffington Post Canada Tuesday that it is bringing Big Mac, McChicken and Filet-O-Fish sauces to grocery stores across the country this spring.

“With this launch, Canadians will now be able to experience the world famous sauces they love at home,” spokesperson Adam Grachnik said in a statement.

“We look forward to sharing more details soon.”

Food blogger Diana Chan sparked our initial curiosity with her Instagram post from the Grocery & Specialty Food West Convention.

She wrote on her blog that the company is working with Kraft Heinz to make the condiments.

A select few Americans got ahold of bottles of Big Mac sauce earlier this year, when McDonald’s gave away 10,000 at its restaurants.

More ambitious cooks can already make the sauce, thanks to this YouTube video the fast food chain posted a few years ago.

The Ingredients In The Secret Big Mac Sauce Aren’t That Secret Anymore

For years, McDonald’s protected the ingredients list of the Big Mac Special Sauce like a closely-guarded government secret. Although there is no shortage of copycat recipes available online, McDonald’s Executive Chef Dan Coudreaut demystified the process when he answered a customer-submitted question and made the sauce on YouTube in 2012. “Quite honestly,” he explains, “the ingredients have been available in the restaurant or… on the internet for many years, so it’s not really a secret.”

Coudreaut walks us through a version of the Big Mac sauce made with store-bought mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, classic yellow mustard, white wine vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika for both color and flavor. Whisk it all together in a bowl and voila: homemade Special Sauce made with ingredients you can find at your grocery store. Unfortunately, Coudreaut didn’t provide measurements, and we’re not even sure how authentic this sauce really is. While a lot of the ingredients are similar to the ones listed on McDonald’s website, we’re missing quite a few things, like soybean oil, salt, sugar, turmeric, and unidentified “spices,” which surely contribute to that one-of-a-kind flavor.

You Can Buy Big Mac Sauce In Canada Right Now

Americans will just have to keep waiting.

In recent years, McDonalds Special Sauce the one that goes with two all-beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun has gotten significantly less special. After limited runs of bottled versions occasionally popped up in places like Australia, this past January, MickeyDs bottled it and gave it away for the first time ever in the States using the sauce as a promotional pawn in the release of the chains new Mac Jr and Grand Mac Big Mac sizes. Not to mention that, in 2012, McDonalds flat-out showed people how to make the sauce in a YouTube video. But in Canada, the special Big Mac accoutrement is about to become downright ordinary: McDonalds is planning to put bottles of Big Mac Special Sauce, as well as two of its other sauces, on sale in grocery stores across the country.

On Tuesday, McDonalds Canada offhandedly fired off a tweet saying, Get ready Canada! Launching on grocery shelves this spring. #BigMacSauce, and featuring a product shot of the bottles, which also includes Filet-O-Fish and McChicken sauces. No, you were wrong: Those werent just tartar and mayo. They are apparently unique McDonalds sauces.

Mcdonald’s Has Changed The Big Mac Sauce Recipe A Few Times Over The Years

The original Big Mac sauce reportedly took two years to develop, and it remained unchanged for over 20 years, when, according to McDonald’s, the recipe was “tweaked in 1991 and remained that way until 2004.” Around that time, the company’s profits were falling, so McDonald’s new CEO called Fred Turner, the company’s original operations officer and former CEO, out of retirement. According to the Chicago Tribune, Turner could “taste” the reason that McDonald’s was in trouble: Over the years, they had changed the Big Mac Special Sauce to cut costs. Unfortunately, the original recipe had been lost, but Turner remembered the original California supplier. They worked together to recover the recipe and returned to making “a hamburger the way used to make a hamburger.”

That’s not the only change they’ve made to the Special Sauce over the years. In 2018, McDonald’s made some big ingredient changes. They removed artificial preservatives, artificial flavors, and added colors from artificial sources from their classic burgers, and that meant removing artificial preservatives from the Big Mac Special Sauce. We can’t imagine Jim Delligatti using artificial ingredients back in the ’60s, so these changes might have brought the recipe even closer to its original iteration.

Is Big Mac Sauce The Same As Thousand Island Dressing

McDonald’s Big Mac Sauce | It’s Only Food w/ Chef John Politte

I spent most of my life believing McDonald’s Special Sauce was simply Thousand Island dressing. Big Mac Sauce is not Thousand Island dressing. Thousand Island dressing requires tomatoes, which isn’t actually an ingredient in authentic Big Mac Sauce.

For this same reason, I also make my Big Mac Sauce without French dressing. You will find 95% of the Big Mac Sauce recipes on the web call for French dressing. Don’t be fooled. Though, I will admit the flavor is in the right ballpark, but, *spoiler alert*, it still tastes like French dressing.
